Walk around the upcoming BR Class 86/2 from Just Trains. The BR Class 86/2 brings additional challenges to the stunning WCML: Preston - Carlisle route, as well as all-new variety in the form of British Rail’s ubiquitous air-con-equipped BR Mk2F coaches plus the much sought-after Mk1 RMB Buffet car! Take the 86 for a spin across a set of 5 new scenarios or put it through its paces with Free Roam on any route! Combine the new Mk2Fs and RMB Buffet Car with your train collection in Formation Designer for custom rail excursions. Find more info in the article here. (Along with any general discussions and feedback in this thread, I also want to know what your buffet car order would be.)
As noted the other day... Breakfast: Pork Pie Mr Kipling Apple Pie MaxPax Tea Evening Tea: Pork Pie Mr Kipling Apple Pie MaxPax Tea. Followed at 1900 by a can of McEwans Export or Harp Lager. (This was before the days I discovered the pleasures of Real Ale). In fact at a later juncture BR did start selling Ruddles County in the buffet cars, admittedly still in cans but slightly more palatable than the previously mentioned brews! Edit/PS: Any update on release date, please?
Dont forget there true artistic piece the sandwich, which managed to look overflowing with filling but actual contained nothing LOL
One word of absolute approval... "Phwoaaarrrr!". Looks to be an absolute cracking add on, super excited for the 86 and Mk2Fs!
Breakfast: croissants and cafe au lait. Lunch: wild pheasant sandwich on toasted brioche with cherry sauce. Potatoes a la viennese Roasted vegetables Dutch apple pie a la mode. A good English Ale Dinner: Beef Wellington or Dover Sole Roast potatoes and Italian beans house salad Cabernet Sauvignon ( I have a high end PC so memory leaks shouldn't be a problem ). Oh right, leeks can be substituted for the Italian beans.
Had a cab ride from Crewe to Manchester in one of these back in the day. Wish I could go back and do it again! Unfortunately no pies of any kind were consumed.
my fondest memory was back in the late 80s, i had 2 weeks work experience at BR, did everything from manning a signal box working the crossing to admin work at ladywell house, but the highlight was a run from Preston to Euston, shadowing a guard on the way down and a cab ride in a class 87 all the way back to Preston, i was only 15 at the time but still remember it as clear as day.
The DEV of the Royal Scot that Video125 did shows the driver eating an apple at 110mph - wonder if he'd get away with that now. They have a YouTube video of B-roll of the Underground from the same time, and caught a driver reading the paper! Edit:
I've been watching a lot of TheTrainTV vids of vintage Bundesbahn operations, and in half of them the driver is coolly puffing away on a ciggie. Not any more...
Unless you have a ticket for the Royal Train, you're more likely to find these at your local Dollar General (that's a yank store right?) than any UK service, blue or modern
I might be fantasizing a bit, but, if you take a look at British Rail menus from the 1970's, I'm not that wildly far off.
I can’t recall ever actually indulging in a full restaurant car meal in all my youthful bashing and journeyman trips around the place. Always just slummed it with chow from the buffet car. From what I can gather though, the full breakfast was particularly lush, you could even choose from kippers on the menu if you wished. So yes, now we have the RMB in game (soon) I think we need to start lobbying JT for a full service RBR or similar so Old Vern can upgrade from that breakfast pork pie to the full English. Cornflakes. Bacon, Sausage, Eggs (2), Black Pudding and a fried tomato followed by bread, butter and Frank Coopers Marmalade (I’m not a toast person).
nah they would use the motion controls built into the PS controllers that no dev ever used unless paid to by sony LOL
Love the buffet in the RMB. I wonder if the Mark 3 RMB will be altered in the future to have that Buffet open for service.
There should also be freightliner ones layered onto other routes like WCML and in this livery for rail tour services layered onto WCML and ECML
It would have been nice to have had the 86/1s represented given their contribution to the development of the Class 87. Would have allowed for 110mph running as well!
Given JTs current work on the modernised 142 and (presumably) new timetable for the Cardiff route, its not hard to expect an 86/6 will follow with WCMLS and maybe North London route timetables in due time.
I have pestered DTG, Skyhook and Just Trains to go back and fix the Mk3 buffet cars on GWE, MML and WCML Shap. If enough of us speak up and request it, hopefully it will be difficult to ignore and someone might just redo the artwork to give us functioning buffet cars as well as continuing the trend with similar future vehicles.
