In the official stream of Train-SIM-Play on YouTube, one of the developers has teased that the new expert loc will be new. It will not be an existing loc. What are your thoughts which loc will be an expert loc. There should probably be first details soon.

The new expert "loc" will be new? Woah, I haven't thought of that! Well, I hope the "loc" will be something in a more modern direction, perhaps even an EMU, which could certainly be something fun.

I personally would like to see a diesel or bi-mode loco. A multiple unit could also be interesting, although if it is I think it should at least come with a way to couple it to other locos or translator wagons. Then there could be services and scenarios rescuing broken down trains and other drag moves. If that isn't implemented I don't think it should really be called expert

I think it is more likely it will be another electric passenger loco though

How?, like have you seen the past EMUs in this game and they are pretty much the same in real life

Well it wont be a Br 402 at least.
Similar to the 101 expert cab car, i think this will include something unique too.
Following this theorie it also wont be a more simple loco like any Sbahn EMU or a shunter. I also dont expect it to be a freight loco or a dualmode as we do not have a route where it would get to be used in both modes. My concerns with a freight loco is that a Expert loco relies on its fault system and for freight the possible scenarios are limited compared to passenger operations.
DMUs arent simple but we have most of the famous ones and for the rest there is no fitting route either.

Then i would add to it not being a steam engine either as TSG confirmed a while ago to not work on steam traction as a whole. Old electric locos like E94 are unlikely too as references are missing, not to mention the lack of a route.

So i would guess the expert loco will be another eye catcher passenger loco+wagons, or EMU.
A Br 120 is unlikely as the IC wagons would be mostly reused which is nothing TSG is known for. Units like a Flirt 3 would be nice but there wouldnt be many routes fitting for one version and expert locos should be used on more routes than 1,5.
    Same for other regional EMUs.

So what would be my guess?
My personal opinion is for it being, similar to the IC cab car, a much requested Unit.
    So i have 3 guesses.
    1. The Br 412. Complicated modelling, unique systems, gets used in entire germany and is an eye catcher.
    2. Br 711. A bit underrated and i could imagine TSG developing such a special unit used for TT mode appearances across most routes.
    3. Br 159 Eurodual 9000. I know i said freight has a lower chance but this loco is just screaming for it to be an expert loco.
Its different from all modern freight units and a non expert version would be just underwhelming.

I for my side would be happy about the BR 408. Would make sense that the BR406 which is represented in the game as ICE is no longer in service now and has a transfer fee.

Anything that isn't ancient. While I personally would hope for a ICE4, there isn't much to be "expert" about it.

So... I don't know, maybe a Stadler EuroDual would be neat.

I doubt an expert EMU will be difficult enough to warrant the name. Even with full functionality, it will probably be pretty easy to operate. I think it should be a loco, with all custom settings there. Bi mode is certainly a nice option, as mentioned above.

TSG has Not the Men Power to do an ICE alone, they have need almost 4 to 5 Years for a BR 420.

It’s more Like a BR 120 with Intercity Wagen or a BR 151 as freight Loco

Well the 420 had no appropriate route and the route it was for couldn't handle it.

TSG does not have the man power? One single developer, with the needed skills, would be able to make most of the work alone so its not about that. Especially TSG developers are skilled as you can see in their products.
Seemingly you dont know the story behind the 420 and to keep it short its not TSGs fault that its still unreleased.
Something like an Expert ICE, especially the 4 would be something worthy for their time. But that counts for any of the complex locos.

I think you misunderstood that because the OP wasn't very clear.
'New' was meant in the way of
'Will it be a completely new loco which wasn't ingame before? Or will it be like the 101 a loco that already existed in standard version?'.

And the answer was the first: it's a loco, which it completely new *to the game*.

Curious that it will be a completely new loco. That throws my bet on an expert 185 out of the race. I’m still holding out hope that it will be a freight loco, though I wouldn’t complain about something completely out of the blue like a Br 120 either.

It would still be a new loco. The 187 and 147 aren't identical only with different numberings.

    It’s more like the 185.2 and 146.2
The 146 was mostly reused from the 185 Model, because the 146 showing DB Cargo Mannheim outside

I'm gonna be honest, you should really improve your english, I can only barely make out what you are trying to say.
The 147 and 187 are not the same thing, not only because they use different class numbers, but also because one locomotive can not do passenger operations while the other one can. the display is also an argument, yes. There will be changes required to make, for example adjustments in the cab, such as the door buttons and the destination menu.

It's OG Loc homie, OG Loc! Jokes aside, I would enjoy an older diesel loco but I'm not sure how much there would be to do in the engine room?

You know this isnt even possible. Its safe to assume TSG doesnt have the rights to use the Skyhook games modell of the 187.
Not to mention TSG probably wont reuse a modell, even if they have the rights, anyways.

Personally I am hoping for a semi modern (Br101 comparable) freight loco

This would probably come with some new Waggon. Not sure what could be made more „expert“ in comparison to the already pretty high standard incorporated throughout the last couple of years, however, I would be hoping for more gameplay, such as ie stuck brakes or somehow the possibility to make a full brake check or similar (also this is already partly possible with stock we have today)…

I would also hope that the features of the gsmr radio could be more enhanced and more interlinked with the in game (and not so great) signaller. ZVM comes to mind…

If it would be a freight loco it would ideally come with door controls, so it could be used for pax as well:D

I know, pretty specific, however, obviously my own opinion, but it was freight which really hooked me to this game and I would like specifically this side of things to be brought a bit further…

A 140 would have more universal application, hence (In theory) better sales. 140s were absolutely everywhere and used for absolutely everything. The 120 didn't last very long, and they never built that many 151s, which would only be useful on heavy freight anyway.

Could it be the Br189? Since it's multimode, it can be rather complex. It would also immediately be appropriate to run on basically every German DLC + Spoorlijn Zwolle - Groningen (and future Dutch DLC, if and when they arrive).

the expert content is being made under TSGs name though, so it not being anything german is a relatively low chance (ignoring the fact austria exists, that could also be possible)

    Hoping for a BR 181.2.
But realistically, the most logical thing I can see would be the BR 120 with IR coaches.

The 120s were assigned to the IC, until the 101s started replacing them. The 103s and 110.12s got demoted to Interregio service

Actually, even if there haven't been build as many locos as for the 103, 110,140..., the BR 120 was the major loco to toss fast trains via routes containing Hannover-Würzburg or Mannheim-Stuttgart, because it was pressure tested instead of the 103. (Actually, they found out, that when trains meet in tunnels with speeds aroud 200 km/h, the human ear drums will burst, when the train is not pressure tested, because of the immediate rise in pressure).

So, actually, I'm quite suspicious, that a couple of services, done by a 103 on for example Left Rhine route, were actually done by a 120, but in game are done by a 103...coming from Munich-Stuttgart and not going via Frankfurt, all ICs back in 1997 (I think, that's the year in game for LFR) were actually driven by a 120. So, all in all, the 120 is somehow the most missing (german) loco in game.

I would almost sign this, especially considering the 120's status as an engineering milestone... Would be an iconic loco and I'd love to get my hands on one

But in terms of ingame practicability and usefulness, I think there are two candidates we could put to better and more widespread use:

BR 140 has been mentioned a couple of times already. It has been the pinnacle of german freight traffic for over four decades and could be used on literally any German electric route in a suitable livery. Until the mid 90's it also heavily featured in passenger traffic... those locos were everywhere, did everything, and that's not an overstatement.

BR 294 would be another very useful addition to the game. It should replace the 363 on basically any service which goes out on a main line for a while, and for the heavier shunting. When I think about those 1000+ ton overland freight deliveries from Maintalbahn or Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn... poor 363 simply wasn't built for this, literally.

Part of the issue with the BR 101 Expert is the lack of fluid including / substitute into existing timetables.
They have to make a separate timetable, where nobody has the time for to retrofit this into all older routes. It requires extra time that could spend on new projects otherwise.

The idea behind Expert Locos is nice and really appreciated. But the inclusion (or lack of) into existing content is just mediocre or not existent.
That's something that modders need to resolve and jump on.

Oh, you're wrong. It was said a few times by Matt and I also think by Lukas, that the expert 101 performed way better than expected. That's also part of the reason why there will be another expert loco.
