This site, sadly, appears to be closing in July so not long left if you want to download the routes and other stuff hosted there. https://www.wotawallysbits.net/ Most routes are based on the 1960s and 70s.and most not available elsewhere (as far as I know). A good route that covers the Midland region steam era is Steaming over Shap which needs a few UKTS files (but not a stupid amount) and can be found at: https://archive.org/details/@eldomtom2
Not only TSC is dying, or at least seems to be left to die by DTG. Many third party developers are pensioners with time, skills and dedication. And they are getting on in years with deteriorating overall health. MSTS scene already has lost many established 3rd parties and freeware authors by natural causes and it seems there is hardly any influx of young 'inheritors'.
Yeah I knew that. And I myself is not getting any younger either. those "young inheritors" are too busy laughing at people and being mean to even care about MSTS or OpenRails or taking on old Railworks routes and models.
I think I have everything from there even before the site slimmed down. I hope the routes can be kept alive on Train Sim Community and on archives sites.
The 'young inheritors" don't have any memory of the older simulators and don't see why they should adopt inferiorer systems. You can't blame them. What are the benefits of MSTS over more modern train simulators? I can't see any, which is why I don't use it any more.
Nobody said anything about MSTS being better than anything. There was no real need to sit there and type that useless mocking snide comment. I know who put you up to that. You have just made it onto my ignore list along with many of the other annoying taunters on here.
Just to confirm that we have had a second host site for South Lancs & North Cheshire for some time now - backdatedtrainsim.weebly.com/ , the owner allowed us to use his modern version of the Conwy Valley Line as a base to be regressed to a 1980's version which we connected to our North Wales Coast Route, so we have maintained a connection since then. If you are not familiar with Backdated Trainsim there is some great stuff there. Andy
Sorry for the slightly late response, had some issues logging in. But for those who like to download the objects from Wotawallysbits, you can find them in an object pack downloadable over at DutchSims.nl (account required). If anything is missing and someone has it, please feel free to contact me as we have an arrangement with Wotawallysbits to create en host this pack. Download: Wotawally Scenery Objects Besides, we are always open to do the same for other object builders, just let me know via PM.
I think I saw and downloaded that, but because I want to play on a better PC now I am kinda just looking through scenario files for various DLC and Workshop users (some AP and ATS ones too) until the time comes that I start installing things on a new PC using my new blazing fast Internet that will be here on Wednesday, speeding up downloads (and also online play of other games). Of course, with other expenses this spring, the computer had to wait. If I can take it somewhat easy for a month or two, I'm good for upgrading and finally playing all the routes I haven't played yet, plus all the AP trains and Wolly/UKTS/BTS/SSS/etc. stuff.
That route, along with the equivalent one for Beattock, are actually quite old versions. The current ones are available on my site. I know "Mr Wotawally" has his reasons for closing his site down, many parts of it have been deliberately disabled for some time. Its not for me to go into detail on the reasons. But even the disabled bits are accessible at the Internet Archive, e.g. https://web.archive.org/web/20240921225557/https://www.wotawallysbits.net/scenery-items.html . John
I'm definitely one of the younger members on this forum, am yet to cross into my 20s. Haven't played older Sims but I do reckon TSC probably has the most versatile systems for offering real-life train simulation. The issue is accessibility and the actual trouble is having adequate experience and information on route building, loco scripting and creation, modelling etc, is scarce and can be hard to come by. Immense resources and time are also required which makes it difficult for younger people like myself to get into route building and loco making which I do actually want to do, but I have no clue where to start at times and I don't have the methods at my disposal to do so at the moment.
