Hey everyone, So, I was over at a friend’s place trying out Train Sim World on his PC, running a 12-car train into Oceanside. I stopped right at the 12-car marker—just like we do in real life—but I noticed something that felt totally off: All the doors opened, even the ones not on the platform. I’ve been an engineer on the LIRR since 2018—it’s 2025 now, so I’ve been in the seat for 7 years—and I can tell you straight up: that wouldn’t happen in real life. If I’m pulling a 12-car train into a station like Cold Spring Harbor, where the platform only fits 8, the conductors would cut out the first 4 cars. That way, only the rear 8 cars open. You’d usually hear something like, “First four cars will not platform, please walk back,” so passengers know where to go. But seeing every door open in-game just breaks immersion. It's not how we run. Back in the day when I used to mess around with Train Simulator Classic, that kind of door logic actually worked right. Only the cars on the platform opened. So why can't Train Sim World, with way more advanced systems, pull that off? Also, side note while I’m here: Why are M9s showing up during the Double Track era? The M9s didn’t enter revenue service until September 2019, and they weren’t commonly seen until service ramped up under the Main Line Third Track Project. During the actual Double Track era (around 2016 to 2018), the fleet was still mostly M7s and some M3s. M9s being around during that time just doesn’t match the timeline. I'm also surprised that this game doesn't have the DE/DM fleet. I’m not a scripter or developer; I don’t think it should be that hard to tie door logic to platform length. If it is, no offense meant at all. I respect what goes into building these sims. Just throwing out some feedback that I hope helps make things more accurate.
It's not a bug, its intentional (I think). Its been picked up before, but it doesn't appear to be a big issue. Reason is probably that you wouldn't really notice given you're supposed to be driving the train. Although, given the current issues around optimisation and such, I very much doubt something like this has any priority.
You need to use the door zone switch. Check here: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/passenger-doors.56676/#post-508894
I started a thread in the General area of the forum about this. It’s even more grating on UK routes with loco hauled trains, such as West Somerset, which have short platforms and the train is booked to call but all the doors open which would never happen IRL.
With some exception which makes it questionable on DTGs part as to why this is not possible on other routes. As pointed out by a certain controversial, yet valid, TSW reviewer from New Zealand on YouTube, the trains on Linke Rheinestrecke are capable of selectively opening only the doors that are alligned on the platform. The coaches that hang off the back of the platform on short stations don't open; done without any kind of added player input or prior preparations. Having recently acquired the route at a steal on the previous sales, I can confirm this as well.
