Hi everyone, as you can see, the message says "Problem Creating New Route." I remember I could do small parts of places I liked in the United States, testing the trains. But the day came when I couldn't use the Google API anymore. From what I read in a statement, Google changed a lot of things, and that was lost for people like me who don't have the means to do it. During that time, I was left without a PC, plus problems with my Google account. I forgot. I was in the middle of COVID-19. Is there a way to easily create a route like the Google API without any problems. At that time, I was left wanting to do Fostoria, Ohio, since there isn't a route with that specific place, neither free nor paid. So, I wanted to do it, but boom, that happened. I wanted to do that little bit for Open Rails, but I have more knowledge of Railworks.
Well you could use Google Earth to plot the markers then use Mike Simpson’s TS Tools to convert them into the required format. You won’t have the aerial view to work with and it’s time consuming to plot the railway, roads, water areas etc. but if you really can’t get the API working your only option. There used to be a utility that could clip portions from Google Earth, georeference them then convert to decals you could place over the terrain, but think it’s now “lostware”. Might have been called RW Decal? That wasn’t really much help!
Yes last time I tried, probably about a year ago, not only did it still work but Google have never asked me for any debit/credit card details.
How do I get the Google API to work without a credit card? Is there a YouTube video tutorial to do that?
I don't think you can. However, you only get charged if you use the api more than a certain amount, which you probably won't reach unless you are a professional route builder.
Use this https://rail-sim.de/forum/filebase/entry/8743-maptiler/ or this: https://github.com/JachyHm/MapyCZforTS2?tab=readme-ov-file With the first you have to wait sometimes a bit until it works, though you use the mentioned trick with the proxy. With the second I have no experience, sorry.
