Thank you Torfmeister, for such and excellent tutorial. Setting up the older version for testing has allowed me to convince myself that a few things that don't work any more DID work fine under an older version.

I'm now thinking of using this permanently for a handful of routes that I have spent many hours testing without finding a satisfactory workaround or fix. Life's too short to spend all one's time testing. However, one thing important to me is to be able to use Raildriver (I am wedded to it) - my preference is for the "TS Classic and Joystick Interface" but this does not allow me to select an alternative version although the option seems to be there. Has anybody had any success with any Raildriver interface?

    I just said:
my preference is for the "TS Classic and Joystick Interface" but this does not allow me to select an alternative version although the option seems to be there

It does work. It will select an alternative directory although visually it appears not to. I suspect I just needed to re-start TS and/or the interface for it to burst into life.

    We are away!

Hi, I'm new to this forums. I just joined because I'm having issues dealing with TS2024 crashing on me multiple times with the dreaded 'Out of Memory' errors whenever I load/place a bunch of assets in scenario editor, I'm able to add a certain amount of assets with intermediate crashing in-between before I can no longer even load the scenario again and I have to reinstall the game again. I do have quite a bit of 3rd-party DLC and thought that could be the problem, however, I tried doing the same on a older computer with a previous install (April 2023) with all the same 3rd-party DLC but with less official DLC from the store and not only did i not get the error but the scenario loaded faster right off the bat.

So I want to backdate my game to that previous install, I just created my account on the Steam DB website and synced everything but I do not see the manifest tab for older versions, did they remove the tab for some reason or am i just stupid? If you have a problem with A scenario then reinstalling the game is pointless.
That is sort of reinstalling the engine in your car because a spark plug stopped working

You cannot turn the game back to an earlier as it would update each time the game started
If you have spare space on the computer you could install an earlier version of the game.

No idea why you decided to create an account on the Steam DB website as it is nothing to do with Steam.

Good to know. I didn't know if the game predated Steam. It's certainly one of the earliest games FOR Steam.

No it wasn't. Steam launched in 2003.

I finally (after years of unfounded resentments) installed Steam after getting Half-Life 2. I think I bought the box in 2004, and only installed it in 2006 thinking "what the heck, Steam might be a good idea not needing me to manually hunt for patches and XP compatibility fixes" and so on. And not needing to insert a DVD, eventually discovering I had scratches on them. And the awkward disc based DRM like SafeDisc and SecuROM needing NoCD cracks.

    Amazing coincidence!
I too first used Steam because of Half-Life 2 in 2006!

For me though it was so I could play it on my Laptop through my Sons account, I soon set up my own account not long after and the rest as they say is history (a very long and detailed bank statement history!)

Did you play the Black Mesa HL2 revamp?

  13. Spikee1975

Nope. I'm still playing the HL1 legacy version from time to time (you must switch it via Game Properties). I'm not a fan of game revamps. I still love the slightly blurry pixel horror of Silent Hill (1) on the PS1 (via 1:1 emulator PSX1.13). It just triggers your imagination much more. What your mind produces is what scares you. I even play Doom using ChocolateDoom port, original 320x200 resolution with a slight amount of bilinear filtering to simulate the CRT look. The higher the resolution, the less believable this highly abstract world looks, as your brain doesn't try to figure out "what the hell is that? There's a flickering pixel - what could that be?" :D Doom 3 was utterly boring although being visually advanced. It was too much "in your face".

I'm also glad I got the original DeusEx: Human Revolution version. They've ruined the lighting in the upgraded version with no possibility of backdating.

I have had to reinstall my F drive which had my V72.3(?) version due to a Drive crash
But now it just does not start.
I get the small splash logo and then it stops.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

I've found that on starting TSC I have to <Ctrl> <Tab> to the TSC window and then it runs OK.

I don't get that far - the game does not start and there is nothing in the File Manager to show it running.

Agreed, 75.8a works best for me and looks phenomenal with the ap sky, weather and clouds enhancement packs with a number of other mods

Where can I get the Licence key needed for this? I was under the impression that you needed that to be able to use or download older versions.

You don't need any license key.
But you can only download previous versions of TS that you own.
If you started with say TS 2015 then you can download any version since then.

I started with TS2016 so if I downloaded TS2018 or TS2019, what differences would that have? Would it just be the software that was different or would rolling stock or routes (apart from those I bought/downloaded) be different as well?

If you downloaded TS2016 that is what you would have as with all the trains and routes that came with that year.
If you had not purchased any other years then you would not get the trains/routes that came with them.

I bet the Combine rail operator would not approve of the mission in Alyx where you derail one. Big licensing no-no.

Let me throw something in here.

I started on 2020 but have redeemed keys with the route packages for 2018, 2017, and others. As a result, I "own" these even though I started in 2020. Even better, I added the 2012 package with the fictional routes when I found it on eBay (thankfully I got the seller to agree not to ship it and just give me the code, I took video of the redemption - which succeeded - and I said he could pitch the box to save shipping LOL). Therefore, I should have access to everything since 2012 even though I started in 2020 because I acquired the older packages.

How did you get the licence key for TS2018, I've been looking for weeks and can't find anywhere that has it in stock?

There hasn't been for a while. Humble Bundle used to sell it, and it's out of stock on G2A and CD Keys as well.

Yes, some sellers do not understand how the CDs work with TSC.

The discs in the boxed versions are completely irrelevant - even if you got a boxed version of TS2016 you'd need to use the code on the back of the manual, which means you don't need the disc at all. Of course, if the code has already been claimed then the box just becomes decoration. I actually bought the deluxe edition of TS2012 on Ebay a little while ago just to have a physical box, adding to the collection of physical TS releases I own. At the moment I have RailWorks, RW2, TS2012, TS2014 and TS2016.

Well it looks like it is sealed as one image showed a plastic casing round it. Is it a genuine seller?

Wouldn't that imply that it has been used and therefore the code can't be used again?

I can only say this about PC games: you cannot sell them to someone once you have played them, because you have already used the CD key, and they won't work for the buyer. This is hard copy versions. I saw a person on FB selling all his sons hard copy games and I mentioned to him that they won't work for anyone else because the CD key had been used. He thanked me for that as he didn't know.

It doesn't apply to all PC games though. If they require an online service for the code to be claimed, such as Steam, Origin, or Windows Live, then the code will be single use. Older games will instead use the code just to check that the disc hasn't been copied. If you buy a copy of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 on disc you can use the code as many times as you like.

Contact the seller expressing reservations that he is selling a paperweight and ask for evidence. Note you are willing to buy the item without physically shipping it but will be asking for a refund if the item cannot be redeemed. Make sure to get the code from him.
