Just Trains Next Route Predictions

i do not care so long as it is a nice old route with some cool yard sections and with awesome diesel's that are not yet in the game

 

I think I may have uncovered Just Trains modus operandi for TSW. So far we've had Blackpool (a popular holiday destination back in the day) and the Lake District (still popular for tourists but for very different reasons).

On that basis, I think we'll be packing the sun lotion, picnic basket and camping stove for a 1980s UK holiday and heading for The Norfolk Broads (Wherry Lines), The Essex Riviera Line (The LTS) the Peak District, SWML to Bournemouth or the GWR along the Dorset seawall.

Have I missed any classic routes for 1980s holidaymakers and tourists?

 

Tom and the JT team, they've said several times that Glasgow is too complex for them.

 

The Skegness line from Nottingham to Skegness.

1980s would have been a variety of 1st Generation DMUs, 31s, 45s, 20s, 47s.

 

In theory, they can divide the development into 2 parts: Carlisle - Carstairs and Carstairs - Glasgow, but apparently not fate

I'd be interested to know just what was so complex about Glasgow back then.

 

I suspect it’s more doing the surrounding urban scenery. I mean Preston, Carlisle and Blackpool even to some extent only extend a few miles outside the town/city centre but Glasgow is a huge conurbation even if you just go for random tree and building placement back from the immediate lineside eye line.

 

the hope valley in the 80s would also fall into the same boat as a Glasgow extension where do you stop with it. there is a lot of good variation, but the TSC version was done it was in two parts with the Buxton extension. Buxton was a major part of the route with its TMD for freight but one thing to consider is would you do it pre or post 1986 when the hazel grove chord was built. pre 86 both routes were separate, you would also need at a minimum the 104 for the Buxton line a vintage emu and a 506 for the Glossop line. all in all a lot to think about.

 

as vern posted plus the additional stock that would be needed for a good timetable. plus how many parts of the route you can you do to satisfy everyone.

 

The number of branches (Lanark, Larkhall, Hamilton Loop, Argyle Line to Central LL), Wishaw Line, possibly Whifflet too - a lot more than most existing TSW routes and only really rivalled by Cardiff - but that doesn't have a mainline nearly as long as the one to Carlisle, of course.

 

i would not mind paying a bit extra for more things
but it has to be worthwhile like a good route with at least 3 new trains
even if it would take longer to be able to release it

 

Another thing to consider with Carlisle to Glasgow is that the drive would be very similar to Shap. A lowland stretch at either end, with the middle being a slightly winding climb and descent through the modest hills and moorland of southern Scotland.

 

That's not complex.

Besides they wouldn't need to model Larkhall or Whifflet as neither was open back in the 80s. Larkhall branch reopened in 2005, Whifflet - I think - in the 90s. In the JT-era Whifflet line was just for freight.

 

Sorry, Vern, I don't really buy that.
I managed it for MSTS and it had a lot of lines out of Central. GLC was the only tricky tile and that's because it had the low level platforms as well.
Plus, there's plenty of urban scenery in Glasgow on TSW Cathcart Circle route and that goes a few miles.

Once you get beyond Cambuslang on the WCML, especially back in the 80s, there are good stretches of countryside as you race down to Motherwell. Likes of Newton wasn't as built up then as it is now.

Even if you went west, you get get out into a bit of countryside before you reach Paisley.

 

Give me a 303/311 and you'd have enough stock for a route. Most of what you'd need is already in TSW.

08, 20, 37, 47, 86, 87, Mk1/2/3s, freight wagons.

 

I emailed JT support and maybe a hint or not but they said the 87/86 will layer into their next route/ future projects

Thats great to known. So it's probably a part of the WCML. Since 3rd parties probably contact each other in order to avoid route duplication, I believe JT will be doing Crewe-Preston/Liverpool (nice route that isn't linear) and All Aboard Studios might do Birmingham-Crewe (or MKC-Crewe )

Well it was just a thought! Obviously something has deterred them from doing it. Could be as I commented subsequently, they decided it would be too similar to Shap in terms of what the run would offer, as an immediate follow on project.

 

In the 80s all except 86/2s. They mainly stuck to passenger turns.

 

I doubt Crewe to Liverpool would sell well in an 80s electric era better than a new route, not something that is already in the game. I also think it’s unlikely that All Aboard Studios will be doing mkc or Birmingham to Crewe, as that is a very long and complicated section for a first route

 

Good call. The Skeggy holiday trains were essentially railtours at normal ticket prices back when I was a young 'un. Likewise many of the football specials I've been on.

Which gives me an idea for a gameplay pack. Football Specials. Conductor mode could be very lively.

 

I used to work with someone who did overtime on a Saturday as the BR rep on the football specials, liaising with the club stewards and BT Police as necessary. By all accounts it was quite challenging particularly some of the rougher clubs like Millwall or Arsenal. The BTP also had a couple of compartments set aside for “prisoners”!

 

If it got too rowdy I use to show my BR pass to the guard and sit in with him. There were usually a few BTP in the brake van too so it felt like the safest place on the train.
I'm surprised they saw Arsenal as a problem, I'm an Arsenal fan and have traveled around the country to matches on trains and never saw any trouble, although I was a member of the official Arsenal Supporters travel club and a season ticket holder so I think we had our own charter train.

 

From what my colleague told me at the time, which is over 40 years ago now, Millwall were by far the ones you needed to be careful around but Arsenal could still be a bit of a handful compared to other London FC’s.

 

I remember one time in the 1980s I walked onto the down platform at Gillingham on a saturday afternoon as Millwall fans were getting on a rake of EPBs after a game against Gillingham to head back to New Cross or London Bridge I guess. Just the fact I wasn't with them was enough for a few of them to start flinging coins and my friend and I. They didn't seem the most friendly bunch although perhaps charitable without realising it.

 

AAS did say they were ambitious. If Carisle-Glasgow is impossible, and Crewe-Preston/Liverpool is improbable, and it must be in the WCML, and it probably should connect to Preston or Carisle, then I have absolutely no idea.

 

Something like Rugby to Crewe via Trent Valley and Birmingham remains a possibility, but let’s face it if they cried off doing Glasgow because of the built up area, Birmingham through the Black Country to Wolverhampton is no less challenging.

 

Ah, then I guess the Chiltern line is a no- go. Pity

 

So, most likely to be a WCML section then. Maybe doesn't entirely rule out a portion of the GEML too. I'll take any scraps I can.

 

Either of those routes could see a slam-door EMU introduced too.

 

If they have doors opening and closing at different times while the unit is stopped at the station, I could possibly just spend hours stood at a station and listening to the sounds of my youth.

 

Or alighting from the train before it comes to a complete stop. Would DTG or a 3rd party model that?

Marvellous! We definitely need some of that action in TSW. Forget the Desiros and Electrostars and get some proper EMU’s in the game!

l agree. Just Trains would want to make Glasgow as accurate as possible and that would involve a huge amount of work.

It’s a shame Rivet didn’t take the same attitude, but we all know now that Rivet couldn’t care less about the accuracy of the scenery and only concentrate on focal points.

l am eagerly awaiting Just Trains new route announcement as we know it will be another first class effort from Tom and the JT guys!!

 

I'll be that guy and say TSG have a valid case to hold that title as well. Both studios are showing that TSW has a lot more potential than DTG's products generally lead you to believe

l agree with that, but when the Alan Thompson route is released you may have to adjust your top three. The team at ATS are pretty meticulous with what they produce for TSC and there is no reason to believe that MAC won’t be as good, if not better. From the screenshots issued already, they look as though MAC will blow some other developers out of the water!!

Yes, noted the new screenshots, they seem to be going all out with the finer details like correct fonts on all signs, speedboards etc, something that DTG do not want to do.
Really looking forward to this route now, I've a feeling it's going to be a corker. However, I also think it will be a while before release, probably after TSW6.

 

Even with the low mileage of the ats route I feel it will be just like what JT have done for period eras.

Great attention to detail etc.

 

l am looking forward to the Manchester release as l have lived on the route for over 18 years, so hopefully it produces what l expect to see!!

I live 10 minutes walk from East Didsbury station, so I share the sentiment!

Also why I hope JT's next route goes to 80s Victoria, as much as it's unlikely. Selfish reason being that I enjoy routes I'm familiar with, even more so if they're a bit back in time.

 

Can anyone explain where end and start points are for MAC please as just guessing as to where it will end and start at minute.

I understand 3 lines? What about avanti services? Are they off map services we will drive as far as the map permits??
