We all know that's unlikely. TSW6 will be how they "sort out" TSW5 and TSW7 will be how they "sort out" TSW6 and so on.
As an aside to that, one thing that amuses me on the HUD is if you are driving in reverse, the accelerometer actually goes into the brown section as if you were braking, then blue when decelerating!
I've seen people say that before, but for me that is the expected behaviour. An increasing speed in the "negative" direction is the same as a decreasing speed in the "positive" direction.
TSW6 won’t be coming. A source told me they will be continuing to improve TSW5 for the foreseeable future until it’s 99.9% perfect.
TSW 5 hasn't been free for months! The free core update only lasted for about a month after release and ended sometime last October/November
So going on that statement they're keeping TSW 5 around for at least the next 5 years! They'll never get the game 99.9% perfect because they won't fix bugs from old games that have been carried over and they keep introducing new ones when they release new content. As we all know come September/October TSW5 will be abandoned on the scrap heap a broken buggy mess just like every other game before it was and all of the bugs that are in TSW 5 will be carried over to TSW 6
I actually made an error with my previous statement. I meant to say 100% bug free and not 99.9%. We will have the perfect game, nothing to complain about and can drink pina colada’s whilst riding the shap. I predict TSW6 for 2035.
I don't expect perfection but given the current state of the tsw5 core I think it's time for dtg to focus on improving the tsw5 core before thinking about releasing another iteration of tsw
I'm pretty happy with TSW5, the dynamic weather behaviour sucks but given my interest in meteorology I'm probably difficult to please in that respect. The passenger engine too. Otherwise, it's okay. Let's see what the summer brings.
Just compared TSC Northern Lines v TSW Blackool both using Class 142. TSC runs so much smoother. TSW keeps getting frame rate drops. TSW rails look blurry and chocolate colored. TSC with AP Weather in my opinion looks so much cleaner.
I've been contemplating TSC for sometime now due to the more variety/longer routes and non-linear options, its just no TT (with ai trains) that has been holding me back.. think I might finally take the plunge on the next big sale, just losing too much interest in TSW and lack of everything! its the exceptional modern TTs from the modders with additional Liveries to the rolling stock available that has kept me interested..
Timetables for me are very repetitive. Quick Drives are similar on TSC where you can select any train set you own and drive between any 2 points you designate. This becomes especially interesting when you are able to run some of the extended routes (e.g. ECML London-Edinburgh or the Longer combo lines from RSSLO). QDs usually come with AI traffic ready. Free Roams let you change your route as you drive so you can dynamically change your run. There are also a myriad of free scenarios - which make up for the lack of timetables. All of the Denmark stuff is all Free Roam where you can drive anywhere. There is a huge variety of routes in the Netherlands. The con to all of this is you need to get the routes and rolling stock yourself. This feels like a treasure hunt (rather than everything provided on Steam). Once acquired the content is huge which just blows the whole TT discussion out the window. If you want everything provided for you DO NOT get TSC. If you want more choice, a huge variety of purchased, free, workshop stuff and willing to search for what you want then TSC is a fantastic hobby. A real collectors joy. Europe Routes I have: https://sites.google.com/view/trainsimulatorcontent/europe-routes UK Routes I have: https://sites.google.com/view/trainsimulatorcontent/uk-routes US routes I have: https://sites.google.com/view/trainsimulatorcontent/na-routes I have a lot of TSW product (probably 60%+ DLC content) I really only buy TSW when it is on sale. Some really great stuff for TSC from 3rd Party suppliers (non-DTG). If you need help getting this stuff (non-DTG) I could probably help as I have everything cataloged.
TSC is only good with AP enhancement packs. The vanilla game looks outdated. I personally only play TSC for the longer routes myself. WCML TSW (Euston to MK) vs WCML TSC (Euston to Birmingham). I still play the TSW version, but I will drive anything but the Avanti due to how limited the end to end run is.
yep, as one example https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/training-and-timetable-tsw4-vs-tsw5.92087/ *** I noticed in TSW4 that it says that I completed 1,352 out of 17,530 Timetables but TSW5 it says that I completed 00 out of 00. What is up with that? I noticed in TSW4 that it says that I completed 246 out of 246 training modules but in TSW5 it says that I completed 235 out of 252 training modules. What is up with that? ^^^^
TBH, if it is a free update again, that’s fine. If I want the bundled routes, I’ll buy it for these. If not, I’ll take the update.
Same. I love Emulation, I still play PS1,2,3, PSP, GameCube, N64, Dreamcast games on my PC. When it comes to TSW/TSC though, I want it looking the best it can be. Performance and Fidelity. The same can be said for most games new games I play though.
What about his train enhancements, are these worth the purchase for TSC? Im opening a can of worms for myself now lol..Being I finally took the plunge with train sim back in March I feel I've picked the wrong horse as a PC user and should have gone TSC originally by the look of it!
Yeah I’d say they are worth it, especially the Class 700. AP gave that a complete overhaul on the sounds and train model. I don't own any train mods currently. If there was one mod pack I would buy it would be the 700 as I play the Southeastern Network routes a lot. Both are good games, they have both have their strengths and weaknesses. With TSW having more features, Game-modes, Creators Club and timetable services. TSC has longer routes, more choice of locomotive and route add-on’s, on-board/station announcements with RW2 Pro. What I would do is wait until the next TSC steam sale. Pick up a cheap route that peaks your interest and try it out. If it doesn’t request a refund. That way you’ll know if TSC is right for you.
I mean its not only that the vanilla game looks outdated, but it feels extremely outdated. I cannot play TSC without AP stuff now, a lot of the trains feel horrible and the sounds are just tragic. I know some people are not really bothered about this stuff, But personally I cannot. Of course some AP packs are definitely worse than others, but there's some like the 411/412 pack, nothing in TSW even comes close. The graphics can be helped hugely, again with more AP stuff, but its just a lot of money if you have no collection for TSC. That's really the problem.
Any recommendations on the JT Library for TSC? For myself I prefer todays routes/trains for UK/Germany then the older stuff (despite being an early 80s baby lol) with a good amount of AI to run past and make the experience feel alive
Great Western from JT gives you 300 miles from Penzance to London in one huge bundle. The Midland Mainline is also huge however comes in fragments. Not sure if they now have a bundle for this also. Rolling stock is not a huge issue as you can change these out with ease using Locoswap (provided the trains are of similar length as incorrect sized units could mess up scenario placement triggers).
For me TSW for quick 20-30 minute sessions, TSC for the real driver immersive sessions. You can navigate all across Denmark using Free Roam. Germany is interesting tho. On a map it looks like TSW is adding areas where there are gaps from TSC. Sadly I cannot get what I really want which is to mimic the long Amtrak routes in the USA. No one does these to this level. Run8 comes close however they seem to be centered on West coast and focus on freight. Trainz feels just like having a train set and does not compare in my opinion. The majority of their routes do not seem accurate. Best for me has been TSC in sheer coverage and scope of maps available. Yes I have everything AP has to offer and really enjoy the content. TSW is more like a starter and TSC is for the serious collector. Respectfully
I think that's a perfectly valid point. I think it also proves that the two simulators can live side by side. It's my opinion that DTG should start updating existing TSC content. While it would cost Dovetail money, the basic AP signalling, weather, clouds, track and vegetation packs could form the basis of an updated TSC from which other existing TSC routes could be updated. They have a huge library of DLC that looks really badly dated, it's incredible that DTG aren't "sweating their assets" (to use a business term) and wringing every penny they can out of old DLC by making it more appealing to new users by updating it. At present, if you ignore all the excellent third party stuff that's still being released for TSC, it feels like the game is dying and is no longer something that Dovetail want to fund development for. The 2025 re-release features a 5-6 year old update of the Victoria to Kent Coast route. I'd rather hoped that was the start of old routes being extended and brought up-to modern standards, but since Focus took over, there's been next to no investment it seems.
Absolutely no way AP would allow DTG to give AP packs for free without an absurd upfront price to make up for the loss of revenue. Plus DTG are on the hook for things like compatibility that AP doesn't have to worry about.
TSW looks ‘different’ it has a more blurry feel to the graphics. TSC has more defined lines to assets. Neither is perfect. TSC is ‘brighter’ when AP weather is added. Everyone will have their own personal taste. I prefer the longer engaging TSC drives to the eye candy TSW train sim experience ( walking the platforms, treasure hunt and conductor and TTTE).
The clue was in "While it would cost Dovetail a lot of money". Everyone has a price, I negotiate claims involving commercial litigation for a living and see it in real time. I'm pretty sure if DTG offered AP £1m (as a wild example) to buy the rights to use those packs AP would be more than tempted. AP would be well aware of what the potential future sales for those packs is and if DTG offered something in excess of that figure Richard would have a decision to make for the long-term good of his business.
Obviously its the longer routes, non-linear services and variety in rolling stock that has me interested in TSC but its the AI via the TTs available and graphics in TSW that question my decision.. while I do enjoy the drive, one of the big pluses for myself is the train spotting aspect available with TSW. I just get frustrated that certain rolling stock in game doesn't have the associated liveries that show on those TTs in real life (why not add these liveries in as a free package to work around licensing) and wish they had more rolling stock in the game to really give the DLC TT the full effect (thank goodness for modders in that sense on some routes but that community is quite small and my patience in learning for myself too low). I still find it interesting that DTG have rolling stock sold in TSC but that same train isn't in TSW but as always I guess we go back to a licensing thing! Will probably get TSC during the sale just to see if it is something I am interested in going down that path.
My advice to anyone heading into TSC for the first time would be to pick an area and an era. A lot of Just Trains, Armstrong Powerhouse and other third party routes/traction (most of which are excellent) are dependent on other products they sell. At this stage I think few would be able to amass the sort of collection that those of us who've been slowly adding DLC for nearly 20 years. So a more strategic approach that suits your tastes is best, the more research you do on your plan the more money you'll save. We are all here to assist if you need help. Sorry for going a little off topic.
