Another Out of Memory thread! In 2022 on my relatively high spec Windows 10 PC (32 GB RAM) I installed ATS Hertford Loop (HL) and it worked mostly fine. I stopped using TS later in 2022 (because of frustrations with a major unresolvable issue within the ATS Kings Cross-Kings Lynn route) but left it on its separate HDD. This year I returned to TS with the same PC but now upgraded to Windows 11 and all was going well. I then decided to use the Hertford Loop but after selecting a scenario I got the OOM issue. The same problem occurred with other HL scenarios and also when trying to open the route in ‘Build’. I don’t recall ever having this issue before and haven‘t had it with any other route. I didn’t contact ATS as they make it clear that Third Party routes, which this is, should be dealt with by the authors. I went through what I thought was a sensible programme of actions - deleted and re-installed the Steam assets that were required for HL, used TS Tools to look for missing assets on the route and whittled these down to two (a tunnel cap and a station sign neither of which can I find anywhere). Still OOM. Then I downloaded Hertford Loop 1.5 (my version had no version number) but it still OOM. Still the same two assets missing. I then followed Warwick Rail’s OOM suggestions (found on Steam forum): https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2297125586 Most of the ideas were already done (I think using the advice given by Peter Hayes on setting up a PC for TS). The only thing I did from this Warwick Rails list was change the Page File set up. Still OOM. I then removed all the scenarios but one which looked good on TS Tools. No! I use 64-bit TS but have tried loading in 32 bit and 64 bit DX12 but still no go. I’ve looked at the Railworks/TempDump file but it means nothing to me! I know I can do a clean install of TS but I don’t fancy doing all that if it has no effect. I do regular back ups so scenarios I’ve altered (not on the Hertford Loop) (replacing locos, renaming etc.) won’t be lost. Does anyone have any suggestions please?
I guess that since you used my guide you have already carried out the various Windows diagnostic tests eg sfc /scannow and the various DISM commands? It might be worth running 'event viewer' to see if it shows any errors (or View Reliability History) Have you opened logmate before running the route it will generate a txt file that can be useful. Similarly run dxdiag the generated txt file has an "error" section again useful. The paging file will not help - with 32GB of RAM I doubt that it will be used when running TSC. I would however clean/empty the paging file (Google) as it can retain "corrupt or invalid" data GEEK alert: What is happening although windows computers running either 10 or 11 are NOT they exactly the same wrt to the various settings. In this case TSC is being loaded into the Virtual Address Space (VAS) and immediately into 4K pages (addresses) in the Physical RAM but one of the adresses in the VAS cannot be found in the RAM (despite repeated attempts by Windows OS) and this usually returns an "Invalid Page Fault" (due to several reasons) and results in an OOM, but unfortunately its not always certain what is causing the OOM. pH
Hello Peter - thanks for responding. I don't have access to your guide as, as far as I recall, it was on UKTS. I haven't carried out any of the diagnostic tests you suggest except to look at the Reliability History. Whilst there are reported issues none of them are dated when I tried to open Hertford Loop on TS. I've looked at Event Viewer but there's nothing that attracts my untrained eye. I didn't use logmate nor have ever used it. Looking at some comments other OOM threads it doesn't appear to be that accurate and therefore not very helpfull. dxdiag reports no problems. Would it be a good idea to run scannow etc. according to instructions online? Using System File Checker in Windows - Microsoft Support
I would run the windows diagnostic especially the DISM commands after sfc /scannow. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...-and-sfc/1021b42a-09ff-41a0-a95a-48f3ee3ae699 Logmate although not perfect can pinpoint some errors. So NO error reports in the dxdiag, txt file? Can you post the txt file here? With view Reliability History (VRH) on opening your pc run TSC and the route before any thing else after the crash occurs open VRH and see what errors are reported?
Restarted Windows, Ran TS Hertford Loop, OOM timed 0931. TempDump folder timed 0930, no errors reported. Only entries are timed 0855 about successful Windows Updates. I've saved the Reliability History if that's of any use although I can't make anything of it!
Ran DISM then sfc /Scannow and errors were found and repaired. Tried Hertford Loop - OOM! As a general principle of Windows hygiene is it sensible to run DISM every year or so?
Just downloaded this and tried it out. There are a LOT of requirements. It did work for me. The Class 66 AP loaded a little funky however still worked correctly. Seems like most of this is already in the ECML Peterborough-London route. It does state that Either (ATS Kings Cross – Kings Lynn/ECML Kings Cross-Leeds-York Merge/Peterborough-Cambridge Installed). I suspect you are missing a key component of the download and that the route is OOM due to missing content. If you really want to run this I would you suggest that you make sure that you have all of the requirements and possibly validate Steam products and redownload any 3rd party. Respectfully
Thanks. I'm jealous! I've gone to great lengths to make sure about missing contents using TS Tools. The manual for the route lists 12 requirements and the page on ATS also adds WCML-South. I have all of them and still have the Kings Cross-Kings Lynn route installed despite it being unworkable on my PC. As mentioned in my original post, I've whittled down the missing assets to two - a tunnel cap and a station sign neither of which are in the locations indicated by TS Tools and I don't know where else they can be (I've used 'search' in file explorer, Railworks/Assets). Others were replaced with similar assets - for example, 'RSC\BrightonMainLine\Lights\BM-Striplight-cream.bin' is required but not there so I replaced it with 'RSC\BrightonMainLine\Lights\BM-Striplight-white.bin' (I have unistalled and reinstalled Brighton ML using my Steam TS/DLC listings). Unfortunately my experience with ATS routes is generally pretty bad with them taking more effort to try to get working properly then they justify. It's a shame as I like the ECML-S and these are theoretically good additions. There comes a point where I must give up with them and move on.
Which 2 assets are missing. Maybe I can locate on my drive? Also I had problems with Kings Lynn line originally. I currently have (ATS) Kings X to Kings Lynn + Cambridge to Peterborough installed
RailWorks\Assets\378\NCL\Scenery\TunnelCap\TUN_Tunnel_Cap.bin,(Scenery Item) on tile +000014-000063.bin,,,, All I have is 378\NCL\Scenery\Procedural\Tunnel\ with some tunnel.bin files but no tunnel cap. RailWorks\Assets\JustTrains\CommonLibrary\Scenery\Clutter\jt_CL_Station_sign_01.bin,(Scenery Item) on tile +000014-000052.bin,,,, I have JustTrains\CommonLibrary\Scenery\Clutter\ but there is no jt_CL_Station_sign_01 or any station sign for that matter. I looked to install the Cambridge-Peterborough route after I removed the KX-KL folder. I went to ATS and downloaded the latest version via my order page then installed. I found I got the KX-KL + Cambridge-Peterborough route instead, with, at least, one fault I originally had which was the 365 scenario starting at KX where there were no signals to be seen. I never ran this route through TS Tools as I had major issues around Peterborough which I and ATS could not resolve. Anyway, that's another story - I think!
"I have JustTrains\CommonLibrary\Scenery\Clutter\ but there is no jt_CL_Station_sign_01 or any station sign for that matter." I have jt_CL_Station_sign_01.bin thru jt_CL_Station_sign_04.bin Maybe download one of your JT routes and it would download the latest version of the Common Library
749006, kilt46 - Thanks! Regarding JT Common Library, I deleted/reinstalled my Steam version but to no avail. However I installed JT MML Sheffield-Derby, updated to 2025 and now I have the jt_CL_Station_01.bin and the rest. I'll back this up before I lose it again! kilt46 - that is exactly the content of my 378/NCL folder. It's not only missing from Hertford Loop but also ECML-S. So I still need to find the Tunnel Cap. What exactly is that?
Thanks for the dxdiag.txt file and the VRH results both show no Windows issues wrt TSC. As suggested above it could be a missing asset. pH
Thanks for looking Peter. With the help of kilt46 and 749006 the asset issue seems to be down to one item, the Tunnel Cap. Interestingly this is also missing from ECML-S which loads with no problems. I looked through my back-up folders and found that in January 2022 I had the full Just Trains Common Library with the Station Sign but by June 2025 they were missing. The 378\NCL tunnel Cap was never there. Could those JT Common Library Assets have disappeared with the conversion to Windows 11 somehow? The Hertford Loop Route has four Standard scenarios, all of which are complete as far as rolling stock goes. I don't understand this Asset business. Am I missing something? When for example I use TS Tools to check the ATS Kings Cross-Kings Lynn (KX-KL) route assets, it reports two missing assets which I've already seen in the ATS Hertford Loop and can be replaced. Yet KX-KL loads in TS and scenarios can be played but in virtually unplayable conditions with missing signals (the AWS may go off but no signal is seen, or sometimes the 'milk bottles' where they should have been), missing pieces of some stations and a couple of vertical sheets hovering around Peterborough. Is there anything to suggest here that a complete re-install of TS would be of any service? Or should I just give up with these routes?
My sessions run fine without the tunnel cap. I would not spend any time searching. This is most likely a false positive. Regards
Unless I'm wrong, which I might be, the Tunnel Cap is just that - a scenic item that fits on the top of a tunnel entrance. If the game runs ok without it then ignore it
Thanks again. I've never noticed it's lacking in the ECML-S which I've used a lot. All very frustrating though.
From comments on here the facts before me appear to be: 1. I seem to have a sound PC with Windows 11 in good shape. 2. ATS Hertford Loop has all but one asset missing, according to TS Tools. 3. The four Hertford Loop Standard scenarios I tried are all complete of rolling stock according to TS Tools. Yet, ATS Hertford Loop will not launch in TS with an Out of Memory report. What is going wrong. That is my frustration!
