I'm trying to change the track speed on a section of the Karawankenbahn

There is a Tunnel that connects Austria with Slovenia and the track speed is 80 on the OBB section and 50 on the SZ section. The 50kph is quite slow to drive. I know how to change the track speeds in the Editor - highlight a section of track then change the speed.

But it is difficult to do in the tunnel as when you change the track properties to show anything but track then the track only shows a black colour in the tunnel and its easy to miss sections.

    Any ideas please

    Peter

Save your folder (make a copy outside of TS or make a zip). Just elevate the terrain over the tunnel to track level, then do your trackwork.
    Afterwards restore your backup .
On the other hand I am doing that only when I built a new route, changing track properties under ther surface is only a question of the perspective in my opinion and done easily.

You could try the torch. It might help.

I have used the torch but the track is still black when you push the spacebar until it shows the colours for track speed

I don't know how long the tunnel is but could you select the open track at the fast end of the tunnel and drag the gizmo out of the other end of the tunnel, left click to bring up the track properties and enter the speed you want (it will be blank because of the 2 different speeds.)
Then if you want to increase the speed from 50 to whatever, just change the speed as normal but start from the 'slow' end.

In the end I did something like that but the line has two or three different track rules which means you can only go so far.
So having changed what I could I ran a light loco thru the runnel watching the Hud for the line speed change.
Then in the editor I selected a section of track to change it up to 80kmh.

Did it after a few days but wondered if there way a way so the track was not black

The only way I've found is pretty fiddly, but if you adjust the camera height so you are very very slightly above the height of the rails the speed limit colouring or other properties become visible.

    Thanks Steve

I wonder why the track in the tunnels stays black when you push the spacebar?
Something in the track properties maybe

I renamed the Scenery folder to SceneryX and that got rid of most things apart from the track but its still black

The track's in a tunnel; tunnels are Lofts; rename the Loft Tiles folder too.
Renaming the Terrain folder gets the ground out of the way.

Much easier than moving elements about to make some room......

I remember you mentioning it once before and I had done that
No wires, no bits of ballast between the track but the track is still black

Is that how it's textured?...lay a few sections of the track types used in the route in a new test route to see what's what.

I did test this yesterday, and the track is rendered black in tunnels when you use space bar to view track properties such as speed. Not sure why this is happening. Seems to happen as soon as the track is under terrain.

The track is black when under terrain - in this case in a tunnel.
It renders properly if the spacebar is not pressed to change it's view.
There are two different types of track in the tunnel from where it changes from SZ to OBB and both types of track show the same result

So is pressing the spacebar essential? Does the tunnel section have the same speed limit throughout?

Pressing the space bar three times gives you a visual indication of the track speed limits and where they begin and end, which is pretty essential for accurate placement of speed limit markers.

No it's not Steve, there are many ways of marking where speeds start and end.

Sorry, but I don't see how you can accurately place a sign indicating a speed restriction if you don't know where that speed restriction commences.

No it is 50kmh on the SZ (Slovenian) section and 80kmh on the OBB (Austrian) section
I was updating the tunnel to be the same speed 80kmh throughout

I was not wishing to place Speed boards but see where it was still 50kmh.
It is easy to place the gizmo, stretch it out and then update the speed.
I could only do so much as there was 3 or 4 changes and if I overlapped I go the "Multiple Track Rules" warning
And because you could not see any colour change I did not know how far along I had got.

Again I think it was due to the route being under terrain - I did not know if I could hide the mountain?

It's more information than a warning.
If you want the tunnel section to have the same speed throughout just select the whole lot and chaange the speed.

So have you actually tried it with the Terrain folder re-named?

Renaming the Terrain folder worked - thanks Gary.
I had a short section of 50kph in the middle of the tunnel so I corrected that
When I overlapped two track rules you get the warning but it would not let me enter anything in the boxes

ahhhhh...multiple track RULES; I was thinking of track TYPES, which wouldn't cause bother.

A strategically placed scenery object next to the track springs to mind, as Peter knows the speed starts at one end of the tunnel and runs to the other. If the Scenery folder is hidden to reduce clutter then of course that scenic object disappears so a track linked object in the middle of the track at the start of the speed change does the job.
