Honestly, I praise DTG For keeping the free starter pack, I think that's a smart and fantastic choice going forward

Okay, honestly, hats off to DTG for this early transparency and maintaining the free starter pack. If this is how the future of the franchise is looking at least in terms of new releases, this might not be so bad.
At least DTG is now just being up front about it and not keeping it a secret, and the free update is back.
Also shout-out to Alex's GTA6 gag. We've had 9 releases (the entire franchise, counting CSX, TSW2020 and Rush Hour seperately) in the time since GTA V came out. On top of countless TSC iterations and Dovetail's new brands. Fair play y'know.
Absolutely no issue with this really. It’s free for everyone and it refreshes the game for newcomers.
I hope that at some point there will be DLSS support as well as hardware support for something other than Raildriver..
Gen 8 support is very surprising and I’m scared that it will hold the game back but I will go into this with a glass half full mindset and hope for the best

Agreed, I am very surprised that Gen 8 is still here. That's what, 2 or 3 DLCs which are Gen 9 only now, and that number I would suspect is going to increase quickly. Surely TSW6 has to be their last given that we're now beginning to approach Gen 10 and that Gen 8 is beginning to hold us back. Although it does beg the question as to how many players (thus, how much money) are still on Gen 8.
I guess designers have to work on the LOGO contrast issues... On the t shirts in the launch video, contrast was hideous.
With the XC license being agreed I’d bet a significant amount of money on us getting a Voyager for TSW6. maybe the gwr theorems were closer than we thought
The free starter pack is probably DTGs best decission for Tsw 5 and 6. Besides the redownloading (which doesnt take that long anyways), i cant think of any points against a new part. Especially as this one seems to be some kind of special as Alex said. 3 routes and 3 locos are at least an exciting announce and even if some may wish for different, i hope the routes keep the usual UK, German and US patern.
Good to hear its free again. But please for the love of god fix the blurry textures already. So annoying.
They had to keep the free starter pack as half the stuff announced for TSW5 hasn't released yet. Wonder if this will fox Frankfurt S Bahn on consoles and the other disparities between pc and console.
On my country slow internet that another week long exercise to download and install all my content into TSW6. Don’t know whether l will jump over this time.
Gen 8 has always held things back, those consoles were garbage compared to a mid range PC back in 2013 and they're far less powerful than what was coming out in higher end smartphones from 2022 (CPU was way earlier but GPU only caught up then, of couse not accounting for cooling), TSW should've never launched on them to begin with and they should've just waited for Gen 9 (probably ignoring Xbox since they have the whole Series S problem).
I hope TSW6 has an improved HD mode for current gen consoles. The current HD mode really looks to bad. I don't understand the release on Gen 8, but nice to see there is a free starter pack again
We all knew what was coming! Honestly I only really play modern UK routes, but even now I am starting to be a lot more selective in what I purchase ! how many hours do you have on previous TSW Games? I have TSW2 150 Hours TSW4 52 Hours TSW5 34 Hours as you can see, I don’t play train games that much, But I’ve also still spent probably more on TSW than any other game!
To create more bugs to lump in with the ones from all the previous iterations, that will be fixed in TSW7 im sure.
Kinda torn on this one honestly... On one hand; Free Starter pack, continuing on the trend from TSW 5. Always a positive. On the other though: Really? Another yearly TSW release? I knew it was inevitable, but I can't be the only one getting fed up of each year having a numerical re-release of the same game, surely. I just hope they do better this time around. TSW 5 has been underwhelming in terms of content and bug fixes. The core has been borked all year and the bugged passengers still haven't been fixed. I'll wait until Dovetail go more in detail about the core features and fixes before making a verdict.
It's pointing towards a route like the riviera line with them getting the cross country and gwr licenses back
The only thing they could say about this that literally nobody would expect is the train world 6 will actually be the last in the franchise and going forward they will just keep it updated
No doubt this TSW6 will require re-downloading of all existing routes, will they be updated in away way apart form just working with the next version? DLSS would have been a great move for TSW6 imo as it gives you better performance on lower spec PC's. Have they at least tried it? I would have thought the performance of TSW would be improved greatly. Don't understand the need to hang on to Gen8, I used to understand back in TSW3 but we have moved on since. Would they be hit hard financially? That is the only reason I can think of cause as others have said it is already holding TSW back.
Unless they can work something out, this will now mean FIVE versions of TSW2 routes in each store, FOUR versions of TSW3 routes, THREE versions of TSW4 routes, etc. Come on, this is ridiculous.
Your posts about this topic always amaze me... where do you live? I live in the mountains in the middle of nowhere and have a good internet connection.
From reading the July roadmap I have a bad feeling that we are going to get a repeat of tsw5's release with each route coming with only new train with another preexisting one added alongside with a heavily requested or fan favorite train being locked by a loco dlc. As the roadmap indicates that every core route for tsw6 will have its own loco dlc which I personally think will cause problems that we had last year with the dlcs being required to have a decent experience eg the Pendolino and Wcml s. Hope I'm proven wrong and it's just Liam's hst pack or some other minor loco dlcs being announced at dovetail direct.
In short i am absolutely DISSAPOINTED. DTG needs to listen to us. Instead of giving a new Version with even more bugs THEY NEED TO FIX THEIR OLD GAME FIRST... I have no understanding for anyone who is still supporting this dev studio.
l live in the countryside on top of a hill, miles from the network hub and a 10gb install will take a couple of hours. Because of this we have loads of problems and have been supplied with boasters to get the speed we have. Some days, on my phone, l cannot open a page on the internet and have to use 4g instead. My children who live in other regions have ten times my speed!!
My thoughts on this, get the free update and, if the included routes/locomotives are of interest, get a bundle.
