In a similar manner to last year, any owned content that is compatible in Train Sim World 6 will grant you an automatic entitled to install the TSW6 version of those add-ons, so long as your add-ons were purchased on the same platform and account that you purchase Train Sim World 6 on. We have instructions available on our FAQs Page for this process when upgrading to Train Sim World 5, and we will provide everyone with updated instructions again alongside the launch of Train Sim World 6.
Having to re download everything again (especially the way it is on PS5) is becoming very tedious especially as I own most of the content. Hopefully there is some ps5 pro upgrades.
DTG Jamie I hope eventually DTG will find a way of integrating a new version over the top of the old one. It is a nightmare if you have a full stock from past editions, and with every new release the community are getting more and more products each year. DTG must find a way to make this better for every customer.
Totally understand the frustration here, unfortunately there's not too much we've been able to do in order to make this process smoother. We had initial discussions with platform holders to help support the process this year, but these didn't amount to any new changes to the process. It's something we understand is difficult each year, and we're continuing to see what we can do for the future, but right now it'll remain the same process as it has been previously.
This. More pointless effort for the same underlying issues. Why can't they see this pointless grind of yearly updates isn't gaining them any fans, just building frustration. At least Farm Sim gives us a couple of years to clean up all the trophies before the next iteration rolls around - and with more improvement than I've seen in the last three reinstalls of the same old TSW. I'll probably claim the starter pack, but stick with 5 until there's something I absolutely can't live without on 6, which based on recent performance and play time, I can't see being for a while. I've barely even got into 5 since being forced to re-download hundreds of GBs of my old add-ons which no longer have any trophies to play for, but I might need for some random layers. You know that it's completely within DTG's gift to NOT make us reinstall everything every single year. You could just... not do that. Just saying.
DTG Alex Thank you Alex for responding. It would be extremely helpful if something can be done to elevate the stress in the future. I won’t be able to tune in tonight as l am out at a restaurant for an early meal and would think that the stream will be over by the time l return, so will catch up with it then.
So who is going to start the "I'm waiting for TSW 7" thread? Still, thanks for the update guys, interested to see what's planned for 6.
Haha, especially when the responses from the Mods in streams that mention the next iteration is ‘there’s no such thing’….c’mon we all know a new version will be along in late summer just as day follows night….
“Elevate the stress in the future”?…surely its stressful enough already? Anyways, the word you’re looking for is ‘alleviate’ I think mate!
Just why? So…Tadami which was a tsw5 route is now as tsw6 route along with the western remaster. Also mildmay extension. So basically you are being forced whether you like it or not to take the free pack or miss out? Because if you keep 5 installed I’m betting mildmay won’t update?
Update the current game so we don't need to re-download everything again! How hard is it?!?!? Jesus fffing christ.... There is simply NO valid excuse for doing this now... SORT IT OUT.
So same as always, no surprises here, and no prizes for who guessed correctly… Although the Free Starter Pack is much appreciate for someone who is eagerly awaiting the GWE Remaster, but I’m afraid the game will be continued to be held back by Gen 8.
Great, another adventure to re download 400+ GB of exactly the same routes for the same game, and waiting for all the mods to be re created. What happened to the Rush hour style updates? Why not only release TSW6 as a route pack without re downloading all the DLC over and over. At least if it would be a different engine it would make sense but this is crazy
I honestly think they should've stuck with TSW5. Like, why can't they use the Train Simulator Classic (TSC) model. For TSC they release a new bundle every year and they update the base game, which is fine since you don't have to download all the DLCs again. However for TSW they actively choose to keep releasing a "new" version (which really is just a simple update) and some new bundles. Why not call the game "Train Sim World", push the yearly update to the base game so you don't have to download hunderds of gigabytes every year and release the new routes as bundles for said base game.
The redownloading doesn't bother me at all. Good chance to think about which DLCs are necessary to me. Free upgrade is good, so no need to buy anything until there are interesting routes. If redownloading is the biggest problem - just let it be and play on on TSW5. Nobody is forcing anyone to upgrade and redownload, everyones one decision. What's bothering me is keeping Gen8 version alive. Come on guys, even Gen9 seems to not be capable of every DLC actually. Why hold back everything else by keeping Gen8? Just, if we stay in yearly iterations, it'd me a good idea to change the iteration-number to the year, 25 would have been a nice number to change to TSW25
I think I have a good theory as to what the UK route will be. My theory is that the UK route for Train Sim World 6, is the South Devon Mainline, Exeter to Plymouth and Paignton. Hear me out So we all know about the HST pack that was recently announced, right? Well, in that article it stated that the GWR Licence had been reaquired for it, but surely, for one singular gameplay pack, it's a bit underwhelming to have such a big name return to the game just primarily for it, there has to be more to it than just one gameplay pack, it has to be a route. Not the mention the crosscountry licence, being in TSW now, that has a lot of opportunities for a voyager. South Devon Mainline feels like pieces of a puzzle put together. The stock is perfect The scenery is perfect It's got Decent Length GWR license being used to the fullest Crosscountry Voyager potentially being a Deluxe edition loco would also make use of the newly acquired crosscountry licence. Maybe it's just one big coincidence. But I think this is all coming together for the UK route of TSW6.
The Free Starter Pack is back! YES! For those who either need a reminder or who are unaware, DTG's explanation for the yearly re-release is at 1:38:10 (albeit for TSW5, rather than TSW6).
I doubt it would make any difference to be honest. People have been asking for DTG to upgrade the existing game instead of release a "new" version every year. It's pretty clear that DTG either couldn't give a toss about what the community want or they just aren't listening.
I heard somewhere that it's not about making people pay every year (hence the starter pack) but instead the new release allows them to do a whole round of marketing every year, which clearly works because otherwise they wouldn't be doing it.
Redownloading is a nuisance but it’s once a year and I can live with that. I mainly struggle with not having all the content during early access. Especially last year when there was issues with the DLCs being uploaded to Xbox store and it took days to weed through everything I own
Nothing to stop them doing a whole round of marketing for an update to the existing game though is there? They managed it with TSC...
Honestly, you will all live, redownloading it all sucks, but there is nothing DTG can do about it. They have to make PR, they are a business after all.
They're a game business, they are going to do more games to keep the company alive, that's how it works in the games industry, and that's unfortunately what people have to deal with and suck up. No matter how much you do, DTG will always be dead set in doing yearly games.
Just need a Northern Ireland Railways route now to complete all UK countries. . Cmon DTG, get your candy asses over to NIR in Belfast and get this done.
Stop trying to justify DTGs antics, there is simply no need for constant yearly releases. Look at SCS and Euro Truck Simulator, they seem to be managing just fine with updating the core game and releasing DLC for it.
You mean the antics, in which, FIFA, F1, NBA2K, WWE2K, Call of Duty, and many other games have followed? Don't be so surprised that yearly, annual games exist. This is how it is, and it may not be perfect, but unfortunately we have to suck it up and move on.
Welcome to the world of gaming. That's just how the gaming world works. If you don't agree with it, you simply shouldn't game.
They get away with doing it that way because people like you just sit there and accept it like it's perfectly acceptable and shoot down anyone who says otherwise.
SCS has to deal with only one platform, DTG has to deal with Xbox and PS too and also Xbox PC. Platforms have different requirements and rules, so maybe it's not that easy. Someone above posted a livestream about TSW5 with some explanation, maybe good to watch this. With the free starter pack, they solved the issue when you not want to have the base routes, but maybe only some later released DLC.
There has to be a way to unlink stock from routes in future, so you can download one or the other when doing this annual chore. For example, I would be able to download the stock from West Cornwall Local, but not the route as I never play it. There are a few German routes I never play but I need the stock as layers for other routes I do play. To download the stock only would save a lot of space.
And it would be nice to untick the default stock on a route. For example if I wanted to simulate current day on Cathcart Circle, I can't do because of the 314 (which was withdrawn in 2019).
"Time, Dovetail Games?" "Is it really that time again?" "It seems as if you only just released TSW2020."
Alright then, go ahead and keep complaining if you want, but I’m not doing that I've got a 1 Gbit internet connection and downloaded everything in no time. In my opinion, you can't blame a game developer just because you have a slow internet connection and have to wait. That’s simply not fair… There are plenty of people who don’t have any issues at all. It’s kind of like having a PC from the Stone Age and then blaming the developer for not supporting your outdated hardware.
So, we’ve had the east coast mainline, midland mainline and the west coast mainline, what’s the bet it’s the southwest mainline now? Although i’d prefer PDL
Everybody knew TSW6 was coming and DTG announcing it isn't exactly revolutionary. It's like Apple announcing a new iPhone OS, they do it every year. You may have noticed annual 'updates' are a thing across the board now. As for the free starter pack, tbh I would rather they skip the free gateway offering and fix the game's glaring issues instead. I'll never get used to this starry eyed "glazing", as the kids say, of DTG. It reminds me of Apple fanboys in the 2000s. Call me when DTG starts taking seriously core issues with the game and fixing broken DLC. I've been a TSW player since TSW2 and own all of the German and continental routes (except Spoorlijn Zwolle - Groningen). I also own quite a few UK and even a few of the notoriously underwhelming US routes. I also play TSC. But I will not be updating to TSW6 this autumn. The drop in gameplay quality from TSW4 to TSW5 is unacceptable and I am not going to sink more money into this franchise or update to TSW* until DTG gets its act together.
How about useless writes on a SSD? what about mods (i don't suppose you know what they are) that need to be re done over and over just for a new UI and some gimmick features. How about the fact that you re download routes that are in the same state as they where in TSW2 , broken and same features, just for the sake of it. If everything would be upgraded to the latest version it would make sense but we all know how it goes. For people like you they should just make it that you re download the entire game weekly, i mean why not "i have the bandwidth bro, nothing else matters"
My main issue with redownloading content is that every single year something has broken on some platform and we've been locked out of downloading our dlc for a certain period of time. That and please can you put a good set of developers on the UK route. Because none of us want another WCMLS.
Typical response from a DTG fanboy. People like you are the reason developers do what DTG are doing. You'll wake up eventually....trust me.
