The coming of a XC license has overshadowed the fact that the WMR license is back, as we can see with the new BCC 170 Timetable pack. This could possibly mean that DTG will add branding to WCMLS (although mods fix this problem) and we could in theory have a Class 730 in the future.
I was wondering about that, I guess it's a case of whether or not WMR and LNWR are licensed together, or require seperate discussions despite both falling under WMT.
My understanding is that WMR and LNWR liveries are separate despite both being run by the same company. If I remember correctly, when WMR was first introduced the livery was dictated by the DFT with the aim of possibly separating WMR and LNWR at some future point. The WMR livery matches that used on buses and trams in the West Midlands, it's just the colours that are different (red for buses and blue for trams). I don't know what that means for licensing though, but it might not be that straightforward.
I'm fairly certain they said that brands are separate. Otherwise we could just have all of the First Group franchises under one licence. I suppose it would be a good thing - if the WMR and LNWR brands had to go together, the Birmingham Cross City route may have suffered the same fate as Peninsula Corridor!
The difference between the LNWR and WMT comparison to FirstGroup is that they are technically still the same company unlike GWR and Avanti. I think it is a good sign that this license is back, who knows, maybe they’re waiting for WCMLS to be in a better state before adding it all back
The WCMLS is awesome if we exclude the timetable. With the EP, the WCMLS is one of the best routes in the game.
I do find myself spending most my time there although slow/semi fast services to MKC are a state and do not work at all
They are separate licenses under separate entities. WMR never left us as a license. There is as yet no movement on LNWR and to be honest, I'm not expecting there to be for quite a while. Matt.
I'm pretty sure that WMR's branding stems from the West Midlands Rail Executive / Transport for West Midlands - using the same typeface and logo as them and would probably mean the license goes through them rather than the TOC. LNR is a unique brand which belongs to the TOC / it's owners and thus is licensed by them. Otherwise I see no reason why the TOC would grant a license for one part of the network but not another as Matt says, unless it's something they're seeking to move past (e.g. FGW) or they're just being odd.
