Sadly Grok has proven otherwise. I asked it for a tomato-based sauce recipe and it sent the police round to my house to arrest me for thought crimes. I just about had time to put the Freemasons blue boat in the front garden to avoid arrest.

I am no apologist for DTG/TSW and actually abandoned the franchise for two years because I was disillusioned with it but I think that it is currently at the best and most polished state it has ever been in since I first bought TSW2020 in 2019.

I have bought 3 editions of the game and feel that DTG is finally getting it to run well. Recent updates have (IMHO) hugely improved performance and we are promised even more performance tweaks. I now actually believe these promises which in itself is a huge improvement.

Yes, there still are some bugs and performance issues but they are being worked on and the results are clearly noticeable. Personally I now find the game at its most enjoyable ever since I first got into it 6 years ago.

Far from being doomed, I think TSW is a successful product that has an assured future. TSW6 is coming out soon with the free starter pack option and I am actually quite excited and looking forward to it as I know I will be on board from day one. I had hoped the new sales model for TSW5 would be a success and repeated with 6 and I assume that it has been. I am pleased the changes have been financially beneficial to DTG and also delighted as a long time loyal customer to feel valued.

So, far from being "Doomed", I feel TSW is as good and enjoyable as it ever has been and clearly improving. I feel quite hopeful that TSW6 will continue in the right direction and am looking forward to it being released which honestly is something I could never have even imagined saying before!

Perhaps it is the unemotional, monotonous and robotic manner in which it is written.

    Oh, and also this...

    :)

Why TSW6 Could Be the Best Yet
    1. Next-Gen Optimization & Performance
    • By TSW6, Dovetail may fully embrace current-gen consoles and PC capabilities, meaning better frame rates, reduced loading times, and higher graphical fidelity—especially on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and newer GPUs.

    • TSW4 still had performance inconsistencies; a polished TSW6 could mark a generational leap.
    2. Improved Simulation Realism
    • Each TSW version has added better physics and more accurate control systems. TSW6 could introduce:
      • Advanced train handling systems (more realistic braking, traction).

      • Dynamic weather affecting gameplay (e.g., wheel slip or signal visibility).

      • Improved signaling logic and AI dispatching.
    3. Expanded Editor & Modding Tools
    • Players have long asked for a proper route and scenario editor. If TSW6 includes PC-friendly creation tools(and potentially shares them with console players through curated mods), the game's longevity and creativity would skyrocket.
    4. More Immersive World Building
    • Expectations include:
      • Busier, livelier stations.

      • Interactive passengers (boarding logic, random events).

      • Expanded walking/freeroam modes, similar to open-world sims.
    5. Community Feedback Taken Seriously
    • Dovetail often gets criticized for bugs and DLC pricing. TSW6 could be their redemption moment by:
      • Bundling more base content.

      • Improving DLC compatibility across versions.

      • Listening to long-standing user feedback (more freight, better night lighting, improved tutorials).
    6. AI Trains & Dispatcher Overhaul
    • A major pain point is dead-feeling worlds. If TSW6 improves train density, AI routing, and schedules, it would feel like a true live rail network—especially with layered services.
    7. True Career Mode or Economy
    • TSW fans have asked for a persistent career/progression system—a roleplaying framework like:
      • Ranking up from trainee to experienced driver.

      • Unlocking routes, upgrades, and licenses.

      • Earning rewards that matter (more than just medals).

I swear to you I did not use ChatGPT :)

OK but I'm wondering if there should be a law ( or at least a forum rule ) that, if anyone uses AI in a post, there should be some kind of a marker, so the rest of us know. I wonder if anyone from DTG is using it.

Maybe I'm just old, but I find the whole idea of AI writing very creepy.

Detailed and good answer Matt. Especially your words about the bashing of our Gen8 friends brought it at the point.

I don’t like role play elements in a game. I like the opposite approach of TSW where I can use each train from the beginning. In a simulation there's no need for upleveling and unlocking. Exactly that's why I quit with Farming Simulator.

I think it's safe to say TSW7 will be gen 9 only, otherwise it would be one of the last games coming out for these old timers.

baring in mind, we only know TSW6 is going to happen, we have little to no information about what exactly will be in it. In TSW you should always manage your expectations, as it could be disappointing.

I think this is pretty much the beginning of "Enough is Enough - Electric Boogaloo"

First of all we only know TSW6 is going to exist and I would say we have to be optimistic about it and it’s not going to be doomed. The most you have said was why they aren’t dropping Gen8 and not why TSW6 will be doomed

In fact, despite the issues TSW5 faced, the game was absolutely by far the best the series had ever seen and was the most successful.

Just look at how far TSW has come from let's say 2 or 3, stuff that was laughed at during TSW2020 are now possible and a standard in mostly every route.

I'm not the person to be licking the boot of DTG, but we have to understand how far this game has come, it has quadrupled in growth since TSW2.

Neither of these things constitute TSW6 being "doomed". UE5 is not needed, especially given that TSW doesn't use the full potential of the current engine, and Gen 8 may prevent the game going further forward but it sure as hell isn't taking us backwards.

I'm going to assume the rest of this post is equally sensationalist nonsense.

You can access all content from the get go on TSW, even with the levelling up system. Farming Sim is another story as gameplay elements only unlock as you level up, so not really the same comparison between the two games.

I personally don’t want to see AP points removed as I like the sense of accomplishment it brings.

The purpose of a train simulation is to have an experience like a real rail driver with all the train controls safety systems and so on. A real rail driver will not get scoring points. So that's why for me there's no problem if an addon has no trophies.

I had heard rumour of this thread but had not seen it. It turns out threads by members on your ignore list just don’t show up anywhere other than in search results, which is how I found it. I’ve temporarily rescinded the OP’s membership to my ignore list (now down to just one member - the club is very exclusive and very difficult to get in) so I can have a jolly good laugh and see other people’s replies as they happen.

    TSW is not doomed.

Thats IRL though. TSW is a not IRL, a simulator/game. A game/simulator needs to have certain set of principles so that it enhances the users experience.
AP scoring improves my gameplay, as it tells me when I’m making a mistake, over-speeding etc.
There’s also the option to turn off the HUD and drive un-assisted if that’s your style of gameplay.

Maybe for you, but a lot of players want trophy/achievement support, I do too. I’m a trophy hunter, not just for TSW for every game I buy and play on my PS5. Take trophy support away and I’m most likely not going to buy a route or not on day one until it’s heavily discounted.

Heat must be getting to OP.

Hey, why not take a break from the forum and, you know, actually go and play the game (as in TSW5). It doesn't hurt, it doesn't bite and it will soon transition into TSW6.

And yes I was playing it up to just two minutes ago, even did a bus stop run on Glossop.
