I'm so pleased I started gaming with and continue to game on a PC.

When each of my rigs starts to show its age and struggles with new releases I upgrade a few components and carry on.

My PC celebrates its 5th birthday soon. It still runs MSFS 2020 and TSW without breaking sweat. It wasn't even a high spec PC when I bought it. It holds our library of 5k albums, 50 years of photos, all of our DVDs and all without needing a single subscription service.

I'd seriously recommend getting a PC if you plan on gaming for at least another 10 years. I'd hate to have to keep upgrading from Gen 8 to 9 and soon enough 10.

Going to PC in 2016 from a PS3 was the best decision I made and I built every PC myself.

    PC. 1. 2016: AMD FX 4300, 8GB DDR3 RAM and GTX 1050Ti 4GB
    PC. 2. 2017: AMD FX 8350, 8 GB DDR3 RAM and GTX 1050Ti 4GB
    PC .3. 2022: AMD Ryzen 7 3700x, 32GB DDR4 RAM and GTX 1050Ti 4GB

That GTX 1050Ti can still handle TSW 5 and MSFS with the occasion stutter and some lag, but I think it will be time for an upgrade in the next 6 months. I am really impressed with the longevity of that GPU. Not to mention one of the main bonuses of PC gaming, you don't have to pay to play online like you have with Xbox, PS4/5 and Nintendo Switch.

Ah but even the sun brings forth train thoughts. Enjoying a nice walk with Mrs Vern around the Wiltshire Downs this afternoon, thoughts turned to arriving home and a nice cold glass of Tropicana Grapefruit Juice with a dash of lemonade.

That then got me thinking about the RichyRails "guessogram" YT clip I watched earlier about TSW6 where he predicts, quite plausibly, that we are off to Florida this year for the US route. Thar then got me thinking of the South East routes in Run 8 where, once you buy the stock pack to replace the default placeholder cars, you get some rather lovely Tropicana branded refrigerator cars to go in your consists. If it is Florida and you can get the licencing - which let's face it would also be free advertising for the brand - we absolutely must have Tropicana in TSW. In fact, now the RMB arrives on Tuesday, thirst quenching Tropicana might just take their place..! :)

the only way i think this could be "doomed" is
    1. players leaving because honestly this is the 6th iteration of the game, and bunch of hassle comes with that. (nor the free start pack is permeant)
    2. some more argument about dropping gen 8 console is a good idea
    3. More shorter routes because "time"
    4. More poorly built Rivet routes that are listed as "DTG built"

I kinda already half left because i am investing mostly on TSC now. Cuz we still dont get to drive (full or in sections) from London to Scotland... and guess what they have a IC225 and here doesnt.

    No it doesn't.

I'm sorry but it just doesn't. If they release routes on gen 9 with cut timetables and performance issues and cant get them to work properly, what chance has gen 8?

But you know, Matt said, I mean its not like he's employed by Dovetail or anything.

So many conspiracy theories, is this the TSW forum or the Joe Rogan show?

No you never do anything to upset your employer. I wouldn’t say anything about my employer so why should Matt?

second this, you would think more people would go out Into the sun in this heatwave, maybe, relax, go to the beach, have a jog, but people won’t for some reason…I think there’s a saying that you can be too online ;)

The GTX 10xx cards were pretty great when they came out and somehow still hold up today. The GTX 1080 Ti, the Bette Davis of 2010s PC gaming, can still do well compared to even the newest cards. Unfortunately they have no ray-tracing support and the 10xx line won't be getting updates for much longer, but it was a great run.

The GTX 10xx, 16xx and 20xx cards were good performers in their day and might still have decent specs except for the most important one - memory.

You need a card with at least 10 GB these days because there's so much more data to store and you really don't want to tap main memory. Think why the 4090 has 24 GB, overkill maybe but not for long.

That's one reason why consoles struggle a bit. I expect 10th gen will have a few more gigs to cope with this.

That would be very funny. Maybe the next time the 1st of April happens?
I've got a 3060Ti with 8GB. I should have gone with the 12GB 3060 Not-Ti, but I got it years ago. I plan to build an entirely new computer; my current one is really bottlenecked by its CPU. It can do alright regardless, but probably not for newer games. The most recent major release I've got on it is Cyberpunk, which runs decently.

I'll probably upgrade when my PC really starts to feel dated. I spent a lot of money recently on a MacBook Pro, which turned out to be a very good investment. I'd like to see what happens with SteamOS, because I'm more than willing to ditch Windows altogether.

I really dont have a clue why you think cutting gen8 is a good idea.
If its possible for a route to be released in full for gen8 because its more like a Maintalbahn route with the lenght and timetable etc. then i dont see why DTG should leave them behind, especially with a free starter pack existing.

But what do i know? I just believe what the developers say because they have logical arguments instead of saying "No it doesnt. Im sorry but it just doesnt.",
with the only argument being based on a "what if".

Because the developers work for Dovetail and have to do what they are told. At some point they have to kill the game for that generation moving forward.

They have already started to not release routes around gen 8, its only going to get worse, especially if gen 9 is struggling, which it is.

But if gen8 still provides valuable income, which according to DTG it does, dropping it will do more harm than good.

Well, exactly. DTG is obviously comfortable making addons that don't work, and aren't released, on gen 8. So what harm could it actually do to the franchise to keep gen 8 around for those addons that do work on it?
