Hello Everyone, Today I am doing a Suggestion for the South Devon Mainline to be in Train Sim World. Why this Route? The South Devon Mainline is a spectacular route, starting in Britain's Ocean City of Plymouth going across the countryside and coastal areas and Ending in the Bustling Hub of Exeter, going along the Famous Dawlish Sea Wall, an Icon among rail Enthusiasts Alike. What Stock Would Be Included In The Route? BR Class 800 IET (GWR) For Express and Semi-fast services, the Route will feature the BR Class 800 IET, Which is the main train used for all their services across the GWR network. BR Class 150/2 DMU (GWR) The BR Class 150/2 is DMU previously seen in Cardiff City Network and West Cornwall Local, this version of the 150 is in the Great Western Railway Green Livery, and has changes from the other variants. These trains will run stopping and local services along the route. BR Class 166 DMU (GWR) In Addition to These Locos, the BR Class 166 makes a return from GWE, doing Local Stopping Services along the route, and updated to TSW5 standards. What Gameplay Opportunities are Here? The route features the iconic Dawlish Sea Wall, which is a popular attraction in the UK, this route will also fill the void for the lack of DMU routes in TSW, which is great. What are the Stations Along the Route? MAINLINE: Plymouth Ivybridge Totnes Newton Abbot Teignmouth Dawlish Dawlish Warren Starcross Marsh Barton Exeter St Thomas And Exeter St Davids PAIGNTON BRANCH Newton Abbot Torre Torquay Paignton What are the Types Of Services? Penzance - London Paddington (9/10 Car IET) EXPRESS London Paddington - Penzance (9/10 Car IET) EXPRESS Plymouth - London Paddington (9/10 Car IET) EXPRESS London Paddington To Plymouth (9/10 Car IET) EXPRESS Exeter St Davids - Penzance (5 Car IET) SEMIFAST Penzance - Exeter St Davids (5 Car IET) SEMIFAST Paignton - London Paddington (9/10 Car IET) SEMIFAST London Paddington - Paignton (9/10 Car IET) SEMIFAST Paignton - Exmouth (3 Car 166/4 Car 150/2) LOCAL STOPPING Exmouth - Paignton (3 Car 166/4 Car 150/2) LOCAL STOPPING I think These are all the Types of Services ran by GWR on this route (excluding CrossCountry) Opportunities The Upcoming HST Farewell Pack By Liam could be added into this route, for the extra railtour services. Surely the GWR licence hasn't come back JUST for that, right? Conclusion South Devon Mainline is one of the routes in which definitely needs to be added into Train Sim World, TSC had the similar riviera line, which turned out to be a massive hit among the playerbase, it is also a fantastic route to kickstart the GWR license again. Thanks all for Watching!
Seems like a no-brainers on Dovetail's part, with all the requests made for another GWR route this seems like the best use of the renewed license!
Now looking at this, this might ACTUALLY be the TSW6 UK route. Think about it. The new HST Farewell Pack uses the GWR licence, but surely, for a licence as big as GWR, it would have to be more than just a gameplay pack, it would have to be a route. And the new crosscountry licence. A deluxe loco for this route being a voyager, fits perfectly. We've got most of the stock too, IET, modified from the 801, 150/2 modified from Cardiff, 166 from Great Western Express. Not to mention the Riviera line being a popular route among railfans in real life. Along with the Dawlish Sea Wall. It seems very suspicious.
With the talk of the 150’s sounds being updated too.. add that to the speculation pile! The only gripe I have with this suggestion is not including the Exmouth branch (via Exeter suburbs, estuary villages and request stops) with views of the Starcross section of the mainline. Kingswear would also be grand, but obviously another license needed there! [edit] don’t forget the HST Castle sets too, which ran the Cardiff to Penzance regional stuff until a few years ago now!
Another potential rolling stock for the route is the class 175 which will enter service later this year.
I guess we will find out in 6 and a half weeks. The agonising wait. Apparently lots to be revealed, here's hoping.
I totally agree that the route should have the Paignton to Kingswear preserved railway included. This would give a amazing variation in types of service.
An excuse to bundle the Diesel Legends of the Great Western, the HST Farewell Tour Pack and perhaps some of the West Somerset Railway specific dlc too. Railtour extravaganza!
One service that would be nice to see in the game is 6V76 Westbury Down TC to St Blazey which is the China Clay train. This would introduce a new freight wagon which is JIA's but still use a DB 66
Love it, with new licenses for GWR and XC this could open the door for 800s and voyagers. I would buy this route if the 150s were not remodelled after the Regional Railways 150s from West Cornwall Local. Any section of the line between Penzance/Paignton to Exeter/Exmouth would be good as long as it’s GWR and XC not RR.
YES!!!!!!! This is the one British route we need! Especially for the Voyagers and 802s, and the route is stunning (Don't forget the Exmouth branch!)
Tbh I really do hope this is would be a core route for TSW 6 as it got loads of the potential to it as there would be a lot of gameplay. For Example having the Paddington services and Cross-country Services overtake the Exmouth to Paignton services at Dawlish Warren and there would be plenty of opportunities for railtours. A railtour that would be added is the Royal Duchy which runs from Bristol to Par but stops at Exeter St David's to pick up passengers and stops at Plymouth so this would be a perfect one to add. The locos that would haul it would be ethier Scotsman or 45690 Leander
Wouldn’t it be great if we got a GWR Hall or Castle class for a rail tour. And even better have the Dartmouth (Kingswear) line too and chuck in a Pannier or a Prairie. That would be the absolute dream. But I think that’s all that’ll be…a dream!
They do say dreams come true. But I suppose dreaming for more steam in TSW is one of those that never will.
Yes, would be great if we could have this! Especially Exeter to Plymouth, Newton Abbot to Torquay and Paignton. The Exmouth line would be dood as well.
This suggestion is also what I predicted before, along with a Voyager to enter as a deluxe edition loco. Genuinely thinking, it all truly adds up to why I also think this route, or any other GWR mainline route, might come to TSW6. Here are my reasons why: 1. The GWE Remaster - This has been announced since 2024 Dovetail Direct and hasn't been released since, and it has just been announced that it is being held back for TSW6. GWE Remaster may have been held back for a locomotive that may fit into the route, like the 800/802, or an updated 166 with TSW6 standards. 2. The HST Gameplay Pack - This was announced along with the return of the GWR license. This pack is mainly based on the final HST days with their given special liveries. However, if it ever comes to a final day scenario, what would the AI traffic have to be? Surely it can't be green HSTs running along HSTs that are retiring? The only suitable stock for that is an actual GWR 800/802 to run alongside the final HSTs. 3. GWR License - Again, announced alongside the HST Farewell Pack, there is no way DTG would just use the GWR license just for one single gameplay pack, there are way too many opportunities for this! For me, the 2nd point just does enough explaining anyway. I think I'll be in shock if the core route for this year isn't based on the GWR network!
Well I would take the route in modern day but would really shine in BR Classic. Pull up your virtual deckchair on the sea wall and watch a procession of Warships, Westerns, Peaks and later 50's pounding past. Maybe if it is the TSW6 UK route we will get a DLOGW 2 adding a Warship and Class 50 along with a Class 120 DMU.
If this isn’t the core route for TSW6 I think there could be a mini meltdown. Perhaps I/we might need to lower the excitement and expectation for it haha
Set in 2018,GWR IETs, 2+8 and 2+4 HST sets, 166, 158, 143, 150, XC 2+6 HST and Voyagers all ran at the same time. There were also Freightliner 70s on China Clay.
I believe the XC HSTs were 2 + 7? Anyhow it would be great so much traction from layers that everything is basically there apart from Voyagers and alterations to others. (then probably just the class 66 for freight sadly)
In their hey day the XC HSTs ran 2+7, they ended up 2+6 towards the end of their run, but yeah, lots of pieces already there if DTG wanted a busy Devon Main line.
Yes. Yes. Yes.. you could even hope that if Exmouth was thought about, that between the two main Exeter stations you could have EMT 158’s masquerading as SWT 159’s..
