Romford is a only a 5 platform station but is elevated so you're looking at another large town's-worth of scenery. I just think there's enough to already build to make the LTS that DTG wouldn't add any additional branches. I do think they'd stick an AI Class 710 on it though. I agree it would be nice to have given it's historic links to the original London,Tilbury and Southend Railway even to the point that was initially put under the control of BR's London Midland Region along with with the LTS in 1948 (Both joined the more logical choice of the Eastern Region a year later). It would have been nice to have had it on the TSC version of the Great Eastern Line given that it was by then operated from the GE's EMU depot Ilford using Class 315s (plus 317s and 321s in times of stock shortages and when TfL took over the line). It's that omission that convinces me we wouldn't get it in TSW if either the LTS or GEML is made. Plus, the time period you want (late 2000s) would mean that DTG would have to build a 4 car Class 315 just for an 8 minute shuttle. I'd prefer to have two types of EMU that use the whole LTS line personally, seems a better use of their resources.
agree! i would love to see it in the late 90's/early 00's. either way id buy this on the first day of release.
Same as Ive said in another thread, They should design the scenery towards how it looks today, then ok with what ever rolling stock era they wish to use with slight tweaks on assets such as monitors for the departure screens etc for the scenery With current scenery it allows for easy expansions to include Up to date TT and rolling stock if need be and easy change out of assets to reflect this period without the need to recreate the scenery from scratch. From a personal point of view I would like to see this practice more often going forward, just create different asset libraries which allows for easy transitions between certain era's where possible
In some places that might be possible, and viable, but Central London’s skyline has massively changed in just a decade, let alone 20+ years.. the track work would need different variants too as I’m sure some places along the line have been rationalised or upgraded since 2000 too. It would be a big achievement, but a dual-era route would be a huge hit. It can’t be impossible can it..
I'm taking a trip down "Memory Line" with my old railway buddy in a couple of months. Have a look at how much the LTS has changed since I stopped working on it. The last time I went on the LTS/C2C was in early 2003 when I caught a 312 to the coast and a 357 back to London. As stated above, the scenery away from the London skyline between West Ham and Fenchurch Street may have changed very little in that time. A few extra towers at Barking and some new buildings around Southend, maybe a few sidings along the Tilbury loop are now out of use. The freightliner terminal has moved from Tilbury to next to Canvey Island. I think a current version with 66/357/720 but with an additional Class 312 DLC and a backdated timetable with older freight trains would probably be a good seller for DTG.
Yeah definitely, although if they made a backdated timetable with old stock, I hope they’d include more than just a 312, maybee a 317 and a 302 as well. (302 only if it’s a late 90’s backdated version.) (and for a 00’s backdated version it would use the already included class 357, plus new stock, the class 317, and 312.)
came across this front seat vid of the DLR and from limehouse (24:52 in, for some reason it wouldnt pick up the time I copied from), one can already visually see the C2C line in TSW Now that we have DLR AI on the OG Mildmay DLC guess we can add them here to run along side with the 357/720s...Scenery looks great on the way in towards Gateway/London Fenchurch Street
I love Wanderism's videos, I find his bus route videos so relaxing though I do wish he'd do more in my backwater of East London. Yes, AI DLR trains would add a great deal to that final run into the City from Limehouse but also as AI on the bridges over the DLR west of Bromley-by-Bow and at West Ham station. It's incredible how the latter has become such an important transport hubs. I can remember when it was one of the quietest stations on the District after local industry declined in the 70s.
True, but the stock would be more diverse (over 3 diffrent generations of emu) and I find the lack of mk1 emu’s in Tsw sad as I like those units quite a lot.
With such a high amount of "likes", Dovetail should seriously be looking into this suggestion! It's great, it has a big variety of services and the route from city to coast is both scenic and interesting.
Anyone wanting to see what the route would be like to drive. Here's a good cab-view video from 2011. And here's the Tilbury loop, the other way of getting from City to Sea.
Hi Guys. I was actually a Driver on that route for 4 years and I was driving the good old slam door stock 302's/305's/308's and then came the 310's and the 312's.I must say, that route was one of the best I had driven on in my 34 years as a Train Driver, I loved every minute of being on that line and the drivers at Shoeburyness I worked with, were excellent and we all had some good laughs and bantering. I would love to see this route in TSW5, either with the latest Trains and even with some of the old 302's, the best in my opinion. Fingers crossed, DTG listens to us all.
A like so to say expansion pack kinda like the flixtrain or the pendolino have like a class 312 or 302 expansion pack (312 would make more sense) and have a backdated Timetable with it.
I would prefer the old slam door stock too (1997 era would slam (pun intended lol), or early 2000 era for the most generational variety (3 generations of emu in one!!!) (but sadly no 302’s (but it could come out as a gameplay pack sorta thing with its own backdated timetable or smtn)). And yes Dtg please listen to the people!!! I’ve been waiting forever for the LTS
I was your payroll clerk from 1993-1995! It was a great line to work on, I was at various booking offices, then HR at East Ham Depot, then Central House payroll, then moved over to the Production team, mostly writing reports on the daily open door incidents.
I'm still friends with a couple of ex-Shoeburyness drivers from that period, it took one of them 20 years to admit to me that I overpaid him for a bank holiday weekend when he was actually on holiday in Spain. They shouldn't have given me a desk overlooking the line at Central, I'm easily distracted.
Bringing this suggestion back to the top, as in 10 days' time the route will move back into public ownership. Given that there is a good relationship between DTG and the Department for Transport, any barrier to getting a licence for c2c should hopefully be gone. The original post in this thread is still one of the best-detailed. To it one can now add the possibility of faux D Stock on the District line section (as is being done for the GWE remaster), and AI DLR trains as was done for the Mildmay line. The imminent move into public ownership means it likely wasn't feasible as a TSW6 core route, but I'd love it to be a DLC in the coming year.
I always wondered though, with Barking appearing with so much detail, DTG must have had permission to walk round and survey. Surely there would have been some spark of interest on either side of developing this further? If I recall correctly Matt used to live in a flat between the LTS and Great Eastern so I would have thought there would be some pull to one or other. I lived in Southend so had choice of both lines but always preferred LTS over GE.
I recall someone from DTG saying that Liam (I think it was) had just done a thorough job on Barking Station and it didn't mean the C2C route was planned. Having grown-up in Barking and worked there in the early nineties I walked around it in TSW and couldn't find any fault with it. I really wanted the booking office to be modeled so I could go in there and relive some very happy memories. Probably my favourite job of my 36 year career. Sadly the hours just didn't suit an 18 year old, seeing your mates going off to football matches or popping by to tell me they were going to the pub was a bit of a buzzkill, especially on the late shift when it was just me and 7 other unoccupied windows.
Really hope we see a route like this in game but would be a bit disappointing if it was cut at any part of the route which may be a reason why it sort of might be unlikely? But considering Barking is already modelled. Yeah.
It would be outrageous to cut any part of the route, it's an hour and a bit end-to-end. I wouldn't just be disappointed at an incomplete c2c, I'd be loudly angry!
You can’t have the London, Tilbury & Southend without all these three areas featuring. I’m sure if it was ever made it will all be there.
I’d love this route in any era, but if it’s modern day maybe a sort of diesel legends thing later on if the route is successful would be nice, with the class 302, 310, 312, 317 (if 90’s backdate), 310, 312, 317, 357(repaint) (if early 2000’s era) or 302, 305, 308, 310, 312 (if 80’s era). This would bring mk 1 and mk 2 AC electric stock (no mark 2 if 80’s backdate) to Tsw 5, which is something we are lacking in game. It would also bring NSE Into picture. That would finish this route for me. All the stock in these could me reused in other places. (example : GEML, Wcml Birmingham new street to Crewe and rugby (smtn like that), backdated timetable for the Manchester airport commuter (I think the 310’s and other stock like that were used on the Styal line), and many more)
Sadly not. I think we may see it in a couple of years. I think DTG will want to ensure the base game is optimised further before tackling another busy London commuter line. After a London-based route last year, I think we'll get something that makes use of the 800 either on GWR or another northern section of the ECML. Branded Cross-Country opens up opportunities on both too.
I think it would be a flagship route if ever released. Not sure if it fulfils the LampOil criteria though. They must be aware there is a high level of interest in it and so many plus points, for users, that have been outlined many times.
I think this might just be one of the highest requested routes in the game right now & always remember Glossop?
It has been highly requested for a long time. Done right I could see it being a big seller personally.
It's just a gut feeling but with the release of a mid-80's era Class 86/2 and only so many viable options for WCML DLC south of the border, I genuinely think a 1985-ish GEML might be made by Just Trains with Mk1 EMUs Class 309s and Mk2 EMUs in the Class 312. A 315 made from an extended 314 would finish it off nicely for the "Electric" service to Shenfield. Admittedly we'd miss out on the 302s, 307s and 308s but you can only hope for a sensible amount of new traction for one route. This latter unit could then see further use on a backdated timetable on a modern LTS/C2C mixed in with white/green, white/grey and/or blue 357s. It would make fans of EMUs from the sixties up to the modern era very happy. It's a pipe dream getting my two favourite lines in TSW. It's the hope that kills you.
I reckon it would have the 357s modelled by Rivet games, they have done an excellent job with the class 170s for the Birmingham cross city route, with the adtranz headlights just looks fantastic, so maybe they could use some features of this to create an excellent 357 obviously shorter length, electrostar body features. Overall im thinking we should have it dated around 2011 maybe, with the new then white livery and the last year for the blue 357s and (also bc i dont like the 720s)
I think 2002 would be a decent time period because as well as the class 357s, there would be class 312s as well. I think the game needs an early 2000s route where the slam door trains were being retired and newer trains were being brought in, whether it's this route or something on the third rail network.
Totally agree. The driving experience is totally different, the 312s performance was very sluggish compared to the newer trains. If DTG really wanted to spoil us they could stick a Class 317 in too and we could have 3 very different trains from 3 eras of multiple unit.
Sorry, disagree. As I've said before, setting this route before the present day would make no sense as you'd lose the layering with the present-day Suffragette line and would need the Barking area remodelled. The best approach would be the modern era with 357s and 720s, and then a later loco DLC with 312s as railtours for the nostalgia buffs.
You are more than entitled to disagree, we're all different. I should point out that a Class 104 is (slowly) on the way and they operated on the GOBLIN service in NSE days, later it was Class 150s before the 172s arrived. The service used to be much less regular so AI GOBLIN trains aren't going to be a big miss if they're not included. Barking would not need too much remodelling actually. Different signs and the reinstatement of some of the buildings that used to be on the platforms is all that's needed. I worked there in the nineties and used it as passenger for 21 years, I know that station like the back of my hand. The stretch between Barking Junction and Ripple Lane would need to be remodeled but that's a short stretch of the line in the overall scheme of things. However, you prefer the modern era and that's absolutely fine. As I say, we're all different. But the reasons you've given don't justify it "having" to be in the modern era.
Modern day is better as we already have all the layers (I think) that'd be needed. It's also easier from the development side. But we do have too many modern routes, so a backdated one (from a yet unseen era in TSW) would be nice. Personally, I'm not bothered. I'd likely buy it either way.
Guess that's fair it was the same back when LTS had 387s, just hope DTG don't go over 12, nothing for me would beat a good old 357, please no stupid new pink livery though.
I think the new pink (Magenta really) markings on class 357s is quite smart and a step up from the bland blue doors and white body Either way, slam door stock or modern, pink or blue (or green if you remember that far back) 357s…. I would buy this the second it came out if it was ever done. It must be up there in the top 5 requested routes.
