It's not a new game, it's an update of the existing game with a bumped major version number. Why do software companies do this? Yes, it's probably to generate new buzz but it's also to allow them to draw a line in the sand when it comes to further updates along the line. Trying to keep things backwards compatible over years and years of software development is a nightmare, whereas only having to worry about it over a maximum period of around 12 months is much less complicated and, thus, less prone to error. I'm not defending or attacking DTG here, I'm just trying to explain how the software world actually works.
TSW 7 will be free to anybody who wants to download it, existing players of TSW 6 will wake up one morning and they will suddenly be playing TSW 7. Why can't that happen for next year? I am sure TSW 6 will have a few shiney features, route hoping across all routes etc. But will the bugs be fixed, will the frame rates be better, will stability be a problem, will passengers be better, will that juddering go on? I enjoy the hype for a new TSW, but then I think back to all the launches of previous TSWs, all the problems that didn't get solved and the hype very quickly fades.
If I was DTG then I would make one of the collectibles assigned to a new TSW6 route an actual bug. (Perhaps you could squash it rather than collect it). That way, once someone had got them all, they could genuinely have a message pop up on screen that said "Congratulations your TSW6 is now bug free". That would cheese so many people off
I’m sorry this thread has just descended into arguing, it wasn’t my intention. I just wanted to highlight some of the potential positives of TSW6, and any yearly update for that matter. Perhaps it should have been done in one of the other mega threads, but I just wish people weren’t always so gloomy about this game and would look at it from another angle. You’ve got every right to be annoyed (I agree this game is an absolute mess and it’s unacceptable, I’m not trying to suck up to DTG…), but nothing would be different if they stopped doing yearly updates — the game would still be a buggy and unfinished mess so I genuinely don’t see why it makes any difference or is such a big deal. Sorry for trying to shed some light…
Yeah but we wouldn’t have to waste time re-downloading everything again + we wouldn’t lose our Caltrain content if it was just a update instead of a annoying new version
It's in the nature of your original post. Surely you realized that making a number of contentious points would start an argument, kind of the epitome of trolling. You must have known that many, if not most, players object to the annual downloading they are forced to do. Were you just looking for a reaction or a few " likes "?
Isn’t this post a bit premature? I mean TSW6 is not even out yet for anyone to suggest there is anything wrong with it!
If people come here just to argue, I'd question why No one had to engage here they could've just ignored it.
I was looking to have a discussion and a debate with people — I didn’t expect to just get hounded for having a slightly positive outlook on things.
As I said in my earlier post, TSW6 itself isn't the issue. The conceptual issues with a new core being released every year are still there though. I can't speak for others but rest assured that what I said wasn't meant personally. I do disagree with what you said, and I maintain that you have misunderstood that issues the community has. If you have felt like I have insulted you, I am sorry.
I don’t feel insulted by you or anyone, it doesn’t worry me. I know TSW has its issues but I just wanted people to try and see it in a different light. But now I understand the anger in this specific community goes far beyond what I thought, so I’ll retreat.
End of the day boss, the best way to look at it is if you're happy and loving the game and everything it's giving you equals plenty of enjoyment, who even cares about what everyone else thinks of the game.........
Ah, don't feel so bad. Maybe I was a bit harsh in my earlier post. You know I can count the number of threads I've started over the last 8 years on the fingers of one hand for precisely this reason. As Vern said, best to slip your thoughts into someone else's thread. Let them take the heat.
I’ve got mixed feelings (as always). I’m never not going to play- and I will buy tsw6 next year when it’s on sale (student life I suppose, it’s better than some stuff I can drop money on)- game pass before then for me . I get why people aren’t happy about the yearly release, but I do see how the free starter pack is a valid compromise (plus game pass as mentioned earlier- I buy it for other stuff and not paying for tsw at launch is a bonus). At the same time, there do need to be some pretty major improvements in this edition, particularly memory wise, and I think it might be time for gen 8 to go as a result. I figure it’s going to happen, even if I disagree. Might as well enjoy life and not get too hung up on it.
Yep, thats the way to go, there is way too much drama in Real Life I have never cared about what anyone thought about stuff unless it effected me or mine, I live by the rules of live and let live and do unto others as you would have done to you
