I know that atm you can "Watch thread", meaning you will receive updates aka likes and comments in it... my suggestion is to add a feature to the forum that would let users mark their favorite comments for future reference

Like, lets say I would like sth explained, and certain user provides a really great explanatory post that I might want to get back to later... looking/searching for a specific comment can sometimes be a real pain... yes, technically you can copy the text to some external page/software, but it would surely be more convenient if you could add sth like star or sth to them so that you could browse/search through it if you like need to return to a specific route/loco where you might need it

Or you like return to a route/loco you havent played for quite a while and dont remember if sth is a bug or a feature, but you remember someone explained it to you in great and satisfactory detail some time back (like me looking for that one specific comment about notch 1 on Cross City 323 :D )... having the ability to mark some comments in this way for your personal use would be a nice quality of life improvement in this forum :)

Good idea, some forums (rail forums uk comes to mind) have a bookmark feature which sounds similar to what you are requesting

You know about the permalinks? Each post has such a link you can store as a direct link to the post. Create a new favourites folder within the fav manager of your owned browser and add them to it. Perfect database to store any link on a web site like this forum is. Does not need any extra forum functionality.

thats almost the same level of effort as simply copying them to external file... saving them to Favorites folder is just a good way of losing them when switching to a new computer or device

but your post has kind of given me an idea - a hybrid between my way and your post, which is to save the links into an external, cloud file, with labels attached

Most modern browsers have a sync functionality. You lose nothing with it when moving to a different PC or whatever device. I personally use Edge and have all my collected favs from over 20 years on all devices per sync.

I'd quite like this. I know you can just save links to posts but it would be nice to have a saving feature integrated into the website. Keeps it all in one place. WhatsApp does it with starred messages.

Honestly, I thought this was already a feature and I simply hadn't found it yet - this forum is full of hidden QoL improvements!

and maybe I should add that the fact that there are such noteworthy comments/explanations on this forum given by some members that they are worthy of saving is an awesome thing by itself :)
