Why, what exactly is the problem? Bear in mind DTG don’t typically do major overhauls for train sounds once they’re released.
I hope they don't modify it in the pendolino because it has one of the best sounds in the whole game. Volumes, mix, clarity, track sound.... For me it's a pleasure to drive it.
I think the running sounds could certainly be improved for both trains; The class 390 has a loophole of a 700 when coasting at high speeds and the 350 is too quiet.
The 350 and 380 sounds aren’t too bad, particularly compared to the pitiful Class 700 or Rivet’s 385. Biggest problem with the 380 is the over eager brakes, as I just revisited in its official feedback thread (though doubt DTG are listening).
Bad looped sounds has been an issue on the Playstation since TSW2.. Some are more noticeable, some less. But pretty much all sounds has this issue.
Track sounds definitely can be improved, doesn’t scream like a jet when it’s flying pass you like in real life . Only thing you can hear is just the traction motors at high pitch at high speed. Need that RAIL sound!!!
The consequences of not being able to get anything more than static recordings, everything else is fake
I vaguely remember before the 350 brakes were changed to be so powerful, someone from DTG said that the brakes were insanely powerful IRL, but I'll agree it does seem TOO powerful. On a slightly unrelated note, I've found the high speed running sounds of the 350 to be too quiet, so you can hear the transformer(?) buzz from the pantograph carriage when one passes.
Couldn't they go trackside and record? There are plenty of places to get the high speed recordings. I wouldn't have thought there'd be any problem using recordings taken from a public place.
They have to record in like a controlled environment where they do specific things. If that makes sense. Like record at certain speeds, at various places of the train to get as accurate sounds as possible, attempting to capture every sound if possible
They could port over the running sounds from either the class 800 or 377 as the running sounds on those units are very good, and give a good sense of speed and authenticity. I did recommend this last year actually lol! even the Mk2 carriages with JT Class 87 (the carriages that can go 110MPH), their running sounds are definitely spot on and actually remind me of the pendos when I’ve been on them.
I'm not sure why they didn't use AP for the sounds they couldn't record, as the sounds for their class 390 sound pack seem decent enough.
And that’s the strange thing. The usual suspects come on and make excuses for how hard it is to obtain decent sounds, yet AP seem to manage it. SimRail have done a superb job with sound on their Polish locos and MU’s and on the odd occasion I fire Zusi 3 up the sounds are superb. Even if the samples you get aren’t perfect, surely the DTG audio engineer(s) have access to software and equipment which can clean the samples up e.g. in the case of rail running sounds recorded from the passenger saloon. Maybe not get rid of a baby crying in the background or some yuppie on their mobile phone but the odd squeak or lurch that might otherwise spoil the clip. And once you have a strip of clear sound, for god’s sake loop it in such a way it doesn’t seem obvious!
