Hi guys I’ve been thinking there’s only one European train that’s a double decker train. And I was thinking it’d be awesome to see some new double decker trains brought into the game that’s European. Does anyone else think the same thing and would wanna see an increase to more double decker trains brought into the game? Here’s some examples.
1. There are two double-decker trains. The Dostos and the TGV Duplex. 2. Due to the small loading gauge of the British rail network, double-decker trains don't fit under bridges and tunnels. That's why they run such long trains compared to other European countries. 3. In Germany, which is basically the continental European network in TSW, the Dosto where the double-decker trains for around 20 years. Since 2015, they have been slowly replaced by EMUs like the Stadler KISS, but for the time frame of most TSW routes, there were only Dostos. 4. The second image isn't a European train. It's an Sydney Trains D-set from Australia. Maybe do a little research before posting random pictures.
The Dutch currently have two different types of double deck trains in use. If DTG were to make future Dutch content, those could be included. https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubbeldeksinterregiomaterieel https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubbeldekker_Zonering
Keep pointing out to non-train-brained friends when they ask, how this is the downside to having the oldest rail network, you kinda end up unwittingly (great-great-)grandfathering in a loading gauge that never anticipated 21st century capacities, and before you know it half the major termini in your capital city have approaches that run through tunnels built to that gauge beneath residential districts where the average house price is upwards of £2 million. Over in the US, the NEC has a similar issue for Amtrak when it comes to the inability of Superliners to fit beneath bridges, through tunnels, and not collide with catenary.
Well... they tried it before. Looks... incredibly uncomfortable, and probably was incredibly uncomfortable.
The funniest part is how they named it to sound like a bra size. And that would indeed be an uncomfortable measurement!
I'm trying to understand why you mentioned the UK if it wasn't mentioned above. Am I missing something?
As OP has posted an Aussie train as an example for a european train, I thought to mention the UK situation. Britain has no double-deckers and Germany is covered by the Dosto, as it was the double-decker in the era most routes are set in.
I do I don’t know why everyone’s cut at me over a post I know I used an Australian double decker but it was used as an example because there’s no descent double deckers on the game and would be awesome to see more double deckers even the new European version ones people are so quick to judge on these posts it’s not even funny and majority of the ones complaining about peoples posts are from the uk.
As I recall, the original HS2 plans involved two types of rolling stock, one built to the UK loading gauge for tunning on the new track and connecting to existing stations, and the other built to the continental standard, allowing for the use of them but only on the new HS2 track, with passengers transferring to local services at each end. However it's hard to keep up with how much the project gets scaled back by whichever new administration has been in power every week for the last decade.
I’m aware of that. I was wondering because he asked for more European double decker trains but never said “for the uk” specifically for the topic of UK not being suited for DD trains to appear
I didn’t mean specifically for the UK I’m talking about in general because there’s hardly any apart from American out of date ones and Europe the photos I shared was a suggestion of the type I know it will never happen but it was worth asking I guess.
That's what I'm saying. You weren't specifically talking about the UK so I was wondering why it was mentioned like you was
Yea it’s sad man how so many people on this platform are quick to criticise other people yeah I honestly could’ve detailed it better but like that double decker ain’t only in Australia that silver and orange one it’s been trialed in Japan and Africa as a regional express so Australia isn’t the only country with a D set
Yea exactly nothing was aimed at the UK and not everything is about the UK either they could include more of other countries instead majority of just UK and USA
