Went on my first Pendolino and Evero yesterday. They are very nice trains!!! Much better than the usual Thameslink/GN I endure (suffer).

Aye they're both nice. Though I made the mistake of getting the slowest possible pendolino service from Euston to Glasgow and felt very sick after 7 and a bit hours of tilting and speed in the dark. Only time I've felt travel sick. My whole family did after that long a trip but they are lovely to travel onboard. Interior is very nice and first class has a good offering. My only issue is the price. But apart from that, they're great trains!

I didn't even know they tilt untill I operated one on tsw and I've been on them more than once before that. I thought the apt was the beginning and end of tilting trains.

Nah. Voyagers used to with Avanti too. Not sure about other trains. Then again I've worked a railtour with a set of mk1's where we were carrying plates sideways lol cuz the carriages felt like they were gonna fall over with the curve we were stopped at on the ECML. XD

Last time I went on a voyager was many years ago when it was wearing the virgin livery. I don't think it was a super though.

Must have been on a really super elevated curve. I would not want to be carrying plates around on a train!

Could this thread now be end of life? I see the Rivet one got the padlock this morning, rather than just cleaning up some of the silliness that crept in over the weekend. Enjoy it while it lasts!

That won't be necessary Vern, as some of that "silliness" was some rather blatant racism. As long as that kind of content won't reach this thread I won't have to close it.

    All the best,
    Jan

It could have just been cleaned up though Jan and also serves to illustrate how the lack of moderation ant weekends allowed a simple bit of thread drift regarding food to turn downright nasty.

I noticed there are several threads on this topic already, so I felt it was best to close this one since it had diverged quite a bit. If there's enough interest, I can certainly consider reopening it.

Regarding your other point, I believe that weekend moderation primarily addresses the symptoms rather than the underlying issue. My colleagues and I shouldn’t have to manage community behaviour during our personal time.
Instead of engaging in back-and-forth with trolls or those seeking to provoke, I encourage everyone to use the report feature and focus on discussions that add value.

My only suggestion to the weekend scenario outside of the valid points you've made, is having one or two established forum members given some small administrative powers to lock threads should they get to inappropriate or out of hand, until the full time DTG staff can review the situation on a weekday.

I'd say in the hypothetical situation the said volunteers wouldn't engage in conversations but would merely just lock a thread if it got out of hand and a then for a appropriate DTG forum staff member review the offending thread once they were back 'in office'. I think quite a few people would be against the idea but it is a thought that I've had for a while.

In terms of the other thread, although my original post using the food analogy was well intentioned and within the relevant topic, I feel responsible for the trajectory it took, so I offer my sincere apologies.

This. And while noting and appreciating Jan's comments ultimately if you have a 24/7 forum with a wide cross section of posters, even if 99% of them are "Captain Sensible" and respect the rules and courtesy to other forum members there's always the chance someone won't. Then someone else gets the red mist over it and before you know it the salt spreads faster than the Elite Dangerous Official Forum (where even I feared to tread).

The only other forum I'm on is RailUK, and I have been on there just over 16 years now, but it's become overly moderated to the extent I only lurk on there now because of how petty some of the moderating got for me personally!

While I agree the forums can be a problem on the weekends, the last thing we need is a bunch of " trusties " lording it over the rest of us. A very bad idea

Better for the forum members to act like grown ups, though I'm not sure that's possible for some. Some of the posts this past weekend were disgraceful, many just plain childish.

A Moday morning suspension or two might concentrate their minds.

In my experience, a timely quick word with someone from a Mod when things toe the line can save a whole load of grief before things get completely out of hand and punitive action is needed.

Tbh, I'm quite surprised there isn't a small team of trusted volunteer mods (with means to hold them to account) which can both ease the load of the community team and can watch over things 'out of hours'.

As for volunteer mods 'lording it over' anyone, well, anyone prone to that is unfit for the role and should be removed from the role if appointed in the first place.

I've had the same experience with RailUK - Yorkie in particular was patronising, like he's living his power fantasy of moderating RailUK. GTPlanet was also quite bad, but the toxicity applied to both the staff and the other members. It's the only forum I've ever had to leave because of the harassment I got from some members.

Yes, I've had the same moderator lecture me too about some really petty things... I just didn't respond or react to them in the end as the thing they were giving me a dressing down for was so stupid. I sort of had my fun on there around 2009 - 2014, but it died out with the over moderation situation. I kid you not I made a thread with a quote from a newspaper (along with a link to the said newspaper), and because I didn't post it in a particular fashion I got a dressing down and warning! That was the nail on the coffin for me, so I just lurk there now to hoover up practical information, but outside of that I don't interact all that much.

This forum seems to get the moderation input just right overall and allows for human conversation and debate.

I'm on RailUK and have had posts deleted for petty reasons, probably because they don't fit the 'approved' style, as far as I can tell.
It's a great place for rail information, but it lacks humour and takes itself way too seriously at times.
At least round here you can lighten up a bit!

This thread is a perfect example of my point.

I've never felt the moderation team on here have ever over stepped the mark as far as I'm concerned.

Having met him in person a couple of times, he's a nice (if earnest) bloke and different to the on site persona. Definitely not living out some power fantasy, instead running a very tight ship. Although I must admit I too have been warned countless times...

Anyway we've gotta be close to 150 now?
