Apparently the driver just dosed off and didn't realise/didn't break in time. How he managed that I do not know. Just shows was fatigue can do to you I guess

Per the Strasburg Railroad, US railroad/steam preservationist Ross Rowland has passed away today at 85. He help with things like the American Freedom Train in '75 and '76 as well as a handful of Steam restorations and excursions thru out his life.

Just something I've had on my mind for a little while now. Could we please get a subforum for sharing the photos/news/other real world stuff? It'd be a lot more clear and manageable if everyone would be able to create a new thread there for their train/museum trip reports etc. This single mega thread is becoming very heavy and cumbersome, taking a long time to load plus it's very difficult to find a specific photo or message if one would like to do so.
Here you can see an SBB shunting locomotive pulling a freight train through the city of Zurich. I also drive shunting locomotives like this, but at the Limmattal marshalling yard.

Something little bit different. This small locomotive is Amemiya No.21, currently preserved in running condition in Maruseppu Forest Park, Hokkaido, Japan. Built by Amemiya Manufacturing Co. Ltd. in 1928, it used to run around this area on the Murii Forest Railway and used for logging operations. The wooden carriages are from the same period (1925), but they were originally not used at Hokkaido. Currently, the train runs around about a 2 km long track around the park. For more about it's history, see the Wikipedia page. Visiting the park has been on my list of things to do for a while and finally was able to do it a week ago.
Attempted a cold start of 37025 this afternoon for the first time in over a year. Unfortunately didn't work due to the battery being flat. We will try again another day though.
