There should not be a reason why TSW6 shouldn’t be multiplayer this is the sixth game. I’ve played other train simulator games they all have multiplayer for instance RSU, which is a game on Roblox yes, Roblox does their simulator way better than DOVETAIL which shouldn’t be the case WHY IS A GAME THAT RUNS ON ROBLOX DOING BETTER THAN A COMPANY WHO SOUL PURPOSE IS TO MAKE A RAIL SIMULATION GAMES!!! not only that they got sound that actually sounds realistic, and they also have horns which you can control Foley not just a push it. A button and a sound turns on an actual horn that functions like an actual horn dovetail should be pass this level of realism, but we’re now on the six game and it’s basically the same game over and over again with some minor tweaks. Dovetail needs to do better for the sake of the company and as much as it pains me to say this shame on dovetail for allowing a Roblox game to put them all the shame, Keep in mind they’re able to have multiple servers up and running with 30 people in each servers just think about that thank you.
Honestly I still don't get why so many people are crazy for multiplayer in a sim like TSW. What does it add to the experience? The knowledge, that the train you just passed is being driven by another human being? Is that it? The only thing that comes to my mind to justify multiplayer would be creating small co-op teams to tend to one specific train (i.e. one is the driver, another one the conductor, the third one is dispatch). But even that's a lot of work for arguably small benefit... TSW is just not built to accomodate such things at this point. I stick to my opinion: Let's fix some bugs of the existing game first, before adding big new features...
*Sighs* by any chance are you lucky or are just ignoring 100s of problems in this game? like how many times do you people have to suggest this to realise it’s not going to happen and it shouldn’t happen until every thing else
Louie - Can I ask a few questions regarding Multiplayer? What do you feel the advantages of Multiplayer would be? How would you use it, assuming it would have to be in the Timetables? Are you thinking that you and a mate would want to be driver and guard or driver and "secondman" (on older routes)? As I and many have mentioned before, multiplayer in a game like Flight Simulator can be fun. You and a few mates go off for a fly somewhere and you can have some banter about each players' flying/landing skills. But Flight Simulator is very much a global blank canvas where there's endless possibilities for activities. In TSW there's free roam but unlike FS there would be far less interaction with others. You'd essentially get the "thrill" of passing a mate going in the opposite direction which in real life might be nice, driving a real train all day can get lonely but in a sim, is that still exciting? Maybe I'm missing a core element of the experience as you see it, hence my questions but what enjoyment are you looking for if Multiplayer comes to TSW?
How about you give us some numbers here? You are saying it does better than TSW while you have not given any proof that your statement is true. I dont know if we are talking about the same game here, but a quick look at some reviews of RSU only shows how unrealistic, bland and unfinished this game looks. Not to mention your argument with them being able to run multiple servers while all servers are run by the roblox team and not the devs of RSU. Now that the only other thing you name to put RSU above TSW are the sounds, especially for the horns (which are horns but not horns, as you say?) Here is a list of all downsides RSU has. 1. Looks like plastic 2. Poorly made maps 3. Poorly modelled train 4. Close to no shadow rendering 5. No passengers at stations 6. Render distance of like 20 meters 7. Still a very laggy and bad performance besides it having no details at all 8. limited route choices while being named as Rail Sim "Universe". 9. Close track scenery only, close to no distant scenery 10. Anything but realistic physics or simulation And much more... All that just from watchin a 2 minute video uploaded 5 days ago.
Funnily enough, I was showing a friend an Ethanol loading service on Oakville last night, and one of the things we remarked on was how this really felt like it was designed to be a two person job, one driving the locomotive while the other correctly aligns the switches and loads the tankers.
*Sighing several times* I ride with you in the cabin and start pressing all the buttons in a row. Or I pull the emergency brake. Or I move the switch so that you go somewhere else. I uncouple the carriages and you leave on a locomotive without carriages. Do we need such a multiplayer? I don't.
This says more about the kind of arseholes you have as friends than about the game. Or I guess, maybe that you need to pick different, more suitable kinds of games to play with your toddler?
now this is some good meme... as a fellow memelord (given this title by the Internet People TM ), I should know
I don't have any friends playing TSW at all. So I need to find some open lobby where idiots might come in. Or make a multiplayer only for friends? Then very few people will be able to play it.
It's very much a case of "if you build it", if the game had multiplayer, you can guarantee that this very forum would have people offering to play with each other, and I guarantee that with a pre-established community like this one, finding people to add to your friends list to play with, who are equally serious about having fun properly completing services together as best we can would not be hard. Most games I play with private community servers have pretty solid vetting processes to keep trolls out.
I only play in train control mode. I'm not interested in conductor mode at all. And anyway, I don't care who opens the doors, I just need to press one button on the gamepad to do it. Plus I like driving freight trains. Let's not add a multiplayer for freight trains? It turns out to be some kind of suitcase without a handle, and not a multiplayer. And I absolutely don’t understand why DTG would waste resources on such an incomprehensible multiplayer when there are a bunch of much more important problems with the game?
I don't like football, we should probably do away with football while we're at it. Every stadium is taking up good space that a solid train station could be built on.
Someone really needs to start a jar of money and add a tenner for each time a thread is created about multiplayer. Multiplayer is not going to be coming to TSW anytime as the core game isn't built with it in mind
If I don't like football, I don't buy tickets to it. And I ignore it altogether. But if a developer builds a football stadium instead of building stations, I don't need that.
It's time to make the creation of multiplayer themes paid. 10 pounds per theme. Maybe someday those who want to will collect enough money for DTG to implement it)
Those who think DTG should waste time with MP for TSW should buy SimRail or Run 8, try it there then come back and say if it’s still such a good idea. SimRail is now down to single digit numbers on most of their servers, some none at all. The route and trains are nice but not repeatedly over and over again. The social “chat” which I assume is what some of these kids harping on about MP are after, is pretty much discouraged. The SimRail developers threw pretty much all their resources at MP at the expense of almost completely neglecting the SP game and alienating that player base. While not so bad now, mainly because the idiots probably moved on, in the beginning SimRail was notorious for malcontents in both Driver and Signaller seeking to disrupt or spoil those trying to play the game seriously. Given the juvenile twaddle and behaviour which frequently pervades these forums, you could probably x10 that factor for any TSW MP game. Run 8 fares little better being largely a “good old boys” club in MP. Wash out of that, give the SP a try (particularly industry servicing) and you won’t give MP a second thought. And if DTG did do MP, likely to be a separate spin off game with one or two dedicated routes and probably some sort of subscription model to pay for ongoing server upkeep. tl:dr No Thanks.
I don't know a single person who uses any kind of ingame chat functionality, it's pretty redundant. Even when having stuff like multiplayer deathmatch Halo sessions with friends, we'll all use a private room in the platform-wide XBox chat that's only for people playing in our group. Same goes for Forza, Sea of Thieves*, etc. Nobody wants to hear random kids while gaming, and the ubiquity of services like Discord has made any kind of ingame chat functionality redundant, everyone doing multiplayer gaming is in small, intimate, private chats with the friends they are gaming with using a dedicated VOIP application. This is why an absolute must for any co-operative multiplayer game's health is private servers/lobbies that are invite-only. But we've known this for decades. *I'd say SoT on a private server is a pretty solid example of what TSW multiplayer could be like. A train is basically like a land ship, where the uninterrupted communication between the crew with no distractions is key to successfully ensuring smooth operations
Hey, I love football. Train operators make a lot of money out of it too. Especially inner-city grounds were there's very little parking. "Every stadium is taking up good space that a solid train station could be built on." That's just silly isn't it? IRL many football grounds are not near railway lines so putting a station there would be a total waste of time. In other cases, football grounds like Arsenal's is surrounded by railway stations that would probably have been closed were it not for their proximity to a major sporting venue. Plus, football grounds don't just have football matches on, many are popular visitor destinations, have boxing matches and music events on. I get some people's dislike for a particular sport but the historic link between railways, railway workers and football goes back to the 1800s. Part of my dislike for the Southern Region is that I was on the wrong end of a thumping every time I took my football boots south of the Thames, back in the days when NSE lines would often have matches against each other.
Multiplayer for TSW isn't on the table at the moment. Heck, it isn't even in the dining room! It was planned to released with TSW2 but was quickly & quietly cancelled soon after the announcment
In the case of SimRail the "chat" was generally about the game, even offering tips not wildly off topic, but they still clamped down on it and also set a maximum range for any comms to or from your train or signalbox.
I should hope so, it was meant to facetiously communicate how absurd it is to think that one's own personal interests should be the only ones catered to. If someone says "I don't like X, Y, or Z, and anyone else who happens to have an interest in those things be damned", then it deserves to be pointed out that we wouldn't have most of the routes and gameplay in the game if that kind of attitude were catered to by DTG. Plenty people don't like Steam, or don't like American freight, or shunting. One of the biggest complaints I see in the TSW community is that DTG apparently cater to a core, significant user base who prefer single stick EMUs over the rest of us. But hey, by this logic, that's perfectly fine, since those players don't like more in depth diesels, right?
thank you for replying As I said, I’ve played this game called RSU on Roblox and that’s what give me my inspiration for wanting TSW to become multiplayer. I’ve seen the potential of dovetail allowing train some world to become multiplayer, although it wouldn’t be a realistic timetable. It would be multiple separate servers where they would be a numbered allowed of players able to join In at certain stations where the line is clear and if players Don’t move their trains within five minutes or go AFK they would get kicked out Now Is a game called RSU it is a Roblox train simulator game Although it might be from Roblox, it has a lot of key elements that can allow this to work if dovetail can add disability to all the routes it will be the the best rail simulator out there being able to talk with your buddies and vibe while you guys complete task along the rails believe it or not is really fun besides train some world has so many routes out there. It would be very diverse and if a map ever becomes too empty, they could easily add AI to fill it in. it’s not only that they do better. it’s also sound RSU somehow managed to make horns feel like actual horns being able to pull down the lever and blast your horn to the way you feel right not only that with the new update that they’re gonna have you’ll be able to change your horn and that could be another key element for TSW allowing players to purchase horns and customize their trains even more I want dovetail to do is to take notes from this Roblox game because if a team of less than 500 people may even lower than 100 is doing better than dovetail. There’s something wrong so all I ask is for dovetail to take a look at their game. Thank you.
Dear gods no. That kind of microtransaction economy is a CANCER on games. And it goes entirely against the ethos of a realistic simulator.
First note: This quote is just one single sentence. Multiplayer or not, if microtransactions come to TSW, I'm out. I can see the sense behind the current DLC system. You pay for new "content" and are able to skip stuff you don't want. Not the worst system. But microtransactions for "train tuning" or even features which should be included in the base game to begin with are where I draw the line.
The thing is, Roblox (no autocorrect I do mean "Roblox" not "Robson") is built as a multiplayer game, and around microtransactions presumably, tsw isn't.
Agreed, while TSW is an expensive hobby I kind of justify it as being like a model railway. The base game is the board and the controller, the DLC is the track, the buildings, the trains and signals. I hear that Roblox is notorious for conning kids with micro-transactions.
There’s probably a reason why there are 10x more Roblox “gift cards” in the racks at the supermarket compared to Steam (often out of stock), PSN, Xbox etc.
Yep... that's what makes it feel so dishonest. It's quite literally a dealer/junkie relationship. Years ago, I've spent some (way too much) time in an online roleplay game (Lord of the Rings Online), until this game went on to rely more and more on the microtransactions and "pay to win". I spent way too much money there, until I came to my senses.
I again repeat myself. RSU is NOT doing better than DTG in any way possible. Its a roblox sim with an average of 50 players. There is nothing to copy from it and especially not the microstransaction part. Some other cons against RSU can be seen in my first post here (which you seemingly ignored) Edit: I think everyone else here has already given good reasons why multiplayer is not that much of a good idea.
DTG’s soul purpose? Will the GWE remaster be London Paddington to Otis Redding, via Isaac Hayes and Harlington, and featuring the Al Green-ford branch? Do we think that instead of extending the Cardiff route to Barry Island they could extend it to Barry White Island? The Billie Holiday Express, anybody? I will indeed get my coat.
If you’re looking for a multiplayer-style experience, give ThirdRails a try. It lets you broadcast your position to a shared radar. You and your friends can each pick a timetable service, jump in together, and meet on the line, almost like true multiplayer, with the radar adding that extra connected feeling.
It kinda gives me a vibe of old play by mail games, around the dawn of email as a thing, but before multiplayer videogames existed. I can keep up to date via the "BBS" on the moves everyone is making between each of my own runs.
