With the Cross Country Class 220 coming to TSW6, I would like to suggest the Avanti West Coast Class 221 Super Voyager sets as dlc for the relevant routes such as WCML South and the upcoming Birmingham to Crewe by All Aboard Studios. Various additional services could then be represented.
Would be amazing as WCML South is getting the 805 as the New WCML : Crewe-Birmingham is set 2019 so it would be perfect
I think you'll see them...just not right now. You don't release essentially identical products next to one another. But as they already have the model basically, they'll just keep it in their pocket for another year or so. Maybe in TSW 7. I do need to ask though... why do we need the 221 in particular so badly? As far as I've read the 221s in service had their one unique feature (tilting) disabled years ago, so they function as essentially 220s. There might be some different of look of bogies but they're essentially just 220s. So.... you could just use 220s (especially since we already have the 220 coming out in Cross Country livery) Would they even be possible to tell the difference side by side for most people? Granted the would be cash cows for DTG since they already did 95% of the work with the 220 and they could resell them by slapping two more liveries on them. Low work, high payout since the Brits do love their huge variety of low-volume designs. =-) "What they only made 3 of them? Oh that HAS to be in the game to make it realistic! How can you have a rail line without those 3 cars???" (kidding... mostly)
One major difference: 220s are four cars, 221s are four or five cars. Just because they look the same on the surface, doesn't mean they're the same.
On the realism side of things this train had its tilting functionality disabled in 2008 by Cross Country. Any routes past 2008 it wouldn’t reflect the accurately. I know how people are attuned to smallest little detail on a route, an inaccurate signals, missing speed signs, wrong coach numbering. I don’t want to break any trains fan moral code here lol. Jokes aside, I still would like to this loco in the game (with tilting functionality past 2008). We can just convince ourselves we’re not in a post 2020 route where using a tilting train on the route is an offence, and punishable for a fixed jail term of a minimum of 3 years, for the endangerment of passengers. Bring on the Voyage 221
That's why I asked what we'd get from a 221 in game that we don't get from the 220? Besides the bogies looking different (no gameplay impact), would people still demand it "tilt" even when it doesn't in real life? Given how much the forum likes to argue about "authenticity" and "realism" that could be quite a debate. =-) I guess it'd be a bit like safety devices...some people turn them off, others use them. You could use the tilt if you want or you could turn it off if you want to be realistic? Other than the tilt though, what else does the 221 have to set it apart to justify focusing a design team on it? I get that you can say that about a LOT of the rolling stock in the game. So many are small sub-variants of the same design. Not a lot of difference between 800 variants or 47 variants, etc but people are insistent that they be exactly modeled as entirely different models. So how different relatively are the 220 and 221 that it should be a priority for development?
In regards to 221 vs 220 differences, I almost wonder if that if they went for the 221 as opposed to 220 for XC, if XC would've requested "no tilt", and so they chose 220 instead to stop endless "why can't we enable the tilt?"
An so part of the license? That's a possibility. It's not unprecedented (like how you can't turn off the safety features on LIRR)
The tilting system has been removed from the XC 221s so it'd be unrealistic for them to be tilting anyway.
Yes. The 221s that came in from Avanti might still have it installed, but the original crosscountry ones have it removed.
Don’t think it would happen because it would mean DTG would have to completely redevelop the class 220 to make the 221 super voyager which they unfortunately probably won’t do (great idea though)
From what they said on the dovetail direct live stream the cab windows tilt was different and the bodgies were different as well I think there were more differences but I can’t remember
Why the class 221 and not the class 222? which actually has some differences like the front of the train
I think my only issue would be is the lack of proper run you’d get out of them compared to having London - Bedford, Kettering etc. Would be very much a welcome addition to the game though.
I’m meaning the fact there is zero reason to have a copy and paste version of the class 220 when we could get something from the same family of trains with actual differences
