I been playing new york to trenton from day one and I still cant get the hang of the braking still one of my favourite routes though.
It’s a challenging brake system for sure. Make sure to make a service application then put it in lap to maintain that application. I’ve always wondered why NJ Transit would use this type of (I think) older braking system on a commuter line requiring fairly precise station stops over and over again. On the other hand I bet it’s second nature to the pros operating these trains IRL.
I did a Bit of ChatGPT digging on how this system is used and one thing I didn’t realize was that it’s perfectly normal to use some brake release if you over brake when approaching a station to reduce the brakes slightly. Normally in a freight you would not do a partial release but on these trains it’s ok, which helps adjust the braking I to stations.
The primary reason some roads (especially commuter RR) still used manually-lapped systems is precisely that: they can be partially released. auto-lapped 26L has to be released completely and reset.
The 12 kV variant of the Arrow III is also needed. All the screenshots indicate they’re only making the 25 kV variant.
