Following the news that the TfW Class 150 will have the updated GWR class 150 sounds. I wondered if the LNER Class 801 would also have updated sounds? After finding out that DTG and All Aboard Studios have updated sounds for the 802. I think it would be a good move to get more people playing ECML Peterborough - Doncaster. I know that the 802 will run on diesel, but I'm sure there are other sounds that are updated. What do you think?
The problem is, IRL the driving cars are unpowered so there is little to no thrash when sitting in them, probably more so in the cabs so even with new sound sets unless DTG artificially pipe the traction (diesel and electric) sounds into the cab not going to make much difference. A shame as on the IET’s when on diesel it's a strange mix of the rise and fall of the power unit rumble and the traction motors also kick in and out, plus the resonance from the wheels and bogies.
Remember when driving the 801 was too silent in cab, even the alarms of safety systems were barely udibile, don't know if this are fixed now but i think they should update the sounds
Sorry, another poll that doesn't help with anything... First of all, do you already know if the sound of the LNR or Avanti are better?! You haven't seen anything yet, so it's pretty pointless to respond when you don't know anything about the sound. Secondly, if that were the case, of course most people would want to improve it. Why would anyone even be against that?! The word itself basically says it... "Improvement"
Yeah the 801 cab sounds are very quiet, to the point where you feel you’re in a sound booth. I don’t know if it’s like that in IRL or not.
What seems to be missing is the resonance from the bogies and wheels which rises and falls quite noticeably with speed. As noted though, sitting in Coach A there’s precious little in the way of traction noise on diesel or electric on an 800/802, so I assume the 801 is the same.
To be honest I've never felt the 801 had an issue with the cab being to quiet... I've always found the running sounds at speed particularly good! A few trains in the game which are genuinely overly quiet could actually use the same level of running sounds as the 801.
Very confused by this thread, the title is asking if there will be new sounds, but there's a poll asking if there should be. They aren't the same thing.
