I love how they even look like they have expressions. The one train is "looking" at the other and first is looking up in exasperation.
Reminds me of Bill and Ben from Thomas & Friends, the episode One Good Turn (think that's the name) where they did exactly this.
A little while ago most Hitachi trains in the UK were withdrawn, as their bodyshells were starting to crack. It was a massive issue for a few months, which even meant some HSTs returned to service and trains from operators had to be put on services they really weren't mean for (like 387s to Cardiff).
Ah, gotcha. Makes more sense now =-) HST sounds like the B-52 of trains. Keeps outliving its replacements.
They're pretty much all gone now. The issue was the supplier of the steel, which to my knowledge was below the standard Hitachi had ordered. This seems to have been fixed with the later AT300s, which are much better than the DFT-specced ones.
No, LNER were affected badly as well. I think GWR were the worst affected as their AT300s were older though. All Hitachi trains in the UK were checked for cracks at the time, even 395s I believe.
