Hi everyone! I am choosing between Salzburg - Rosenheim and ludwigsbahn.. I both like them, but I have some things.. firstly: can I run one of these routes? I can run DRA and Koln hbf with all layers good, My minimum fps for gaming is 17 fps. So with that being said, can I run one of these routes smooth, and wich one can I run better?? Thansk for replies!
Both will be more demanding than old routes, although both are some of the more fluent of new routes. MKN will probably struggle little more, especially at Ludwisgshafen Mitte, where you have large yards loaded in memory on both sides from you.
Not much to add, noir Basically, SRM is a bit less demanding and will run better on weaker systems, while MKN offers more variety in scenery (personal opinion). Both routes are rather beautiful though. MKN perhaps profits a bit more from having additional rolling stock to layer into the route. The red 628 and the Expert 101 are great additions for both.
Purely personal opinion here: I loved the idea of Salzburg-Rosenheim, ran it a couple of times and then basically forgot about it. Ludwigsbahn I only got at a discount and didn't expect much, but it's one of my top three German routes now (the other ones being Dresden-Riesa and Niddertalbahn). Perfomance-wise I can't really see much difference. The main difference is how the routes feel, and I have almost all layers - that has a big impact. Ludwigsbahn feels alive, starting in Mannheim, then you have the weirdness of Ludwigshafen Hbf, then a bit of highish-speed running to Neustadt while the mountainous Pfälzer Wald draws ever nearer, and then a nice climb through the forest to Kaiserslautern. I love seeing TGVs along the way, and there is a good variety of services. Salzburg - Rosenheim is fine. Salzburg is nice but lacks important rolling stock, and the way to Rosenheim looks pretty with mountains in the background, but it feels less interesting to me even when it offers similar things on paper. People often mention bugs in Ludwigsbahn, and unfortunately it's true - I've had stuck trains before Mannheim at the end of runs from K'lautern, there are lighting problems in tunnels (one in particular is glaring), there are some misalignments etc. and Ludwigshafen as a city looks underwhelming - but most runs go ok. I would generally advise to wait for a sale (for both routes), they're on quite often.
So first of all I would suggest that you might wanna take a look at when the next sale might be for your platform. Especially Salzburg-Rosenheim is a little older and therefore has some bucks to save when there is a sale. Apart from that: I‘d choose Salzburg! The route is one of the top 3 German routes EASILY for me! The variety is incredible: IC services with the Expert Br101, EC with the Semmeringbahn 1116, Freight with esch and every freight loco we have in game, regional express services with the Br111 (by far one of the best German locos in game) and also some short services with Austrian stock. It’s a really beautiful route with the mountainous scenery, the speeds are often quite high but vary a lot and you get to really drive the Br111 and IC/EC services! And the best thing: You get to stop with the IC/EC services along the way, making it far more interesting than most routes with long distance trains. Apart from that: Ludwigsbahn is the only German route I don’t own since it’s still kind of broken and isn’t as good looking as Salzburg (I‘ll pick it up in a sale though). And that’s truly a shame since I have lived most of my live in that area so I was really looking forward to it but was a little disappointed in it…
so the most says I have to go for Salzburg rosenheim.. I will pick that one then, but I hope the peformance is okay for that route, cuz I have apretty old pc. Liek I said, I can run DRA and Koln aachen with full timetable layers smoothly, but semmeringbahn is very laggy for me... Thanks for the replies anyways
I haven’t picked up Ludwigsbahn and only intend to do so in a deep sale or as part of a bundle. The one caveat to that is it’s the only route where you can run the E94 add on DLC with the vintage coaches on a Railtour so kind of essential if you want to buy the latter. However I never realised the route was in such an unfinished state which makes me even less likely to buy it - given the time it’s been out, safe to say off DTG’s radar as regards meaningful fixes. As regards Salzburg to Rosenheim, well an okay route but IMHO too similar to Vorarlberg in that it doesn’t run through the mountains but around them. A bit less grindy though in terms of the stopping services.
