    On coaches like the MBTA bi-livels and NJT doubles. How do they operate. Is it manually by passengers or smth or by guard. Or automatic???

    Doors are operated by the Conductor.

    Yeah but I mean does the conductor just trust passengers to stand back while the floor plates go up?

    At least on NJT, the conductor opens the trapdoors before reaching the station. They are manually operated, so they have to walk the train to get all of them

    A couple months ago I had an Amtrak conductor that was able to hook his foot on the boarding stool as we pulled into Rhinecliff, it was pretty slick

    They usually only open one or 2 doors.

    Union. Lots of operations could be automated, but.....
