I run directly from Steam - Admin mode is irrelevant

Gives the proggie extra functionality, can improve stability and improve troubleshooting.
I run Steam as admin as well. Plus all the other exe files within the main TSC folder.

You DO NOT need to run any windows software in Admin mode UNLESS it is stated by the developer.
Best guess Google (AI) Windows 10 or 11 - Pros and cons running games in administrator mode.

    Chat GPT says
    When it can help
    • Older games or poorly optimized ports – Some titles expect elevated privileges to access files in Program Files, write configs to protected folders, or use legacy anti-cheat.
Games with mods or launchers – Mod managers or game launchers sometimes need admin rights to write to the game directory.
    • Network or anti-cheat issues – A few multiplayer titles won’t connect properly unless run as admin (their anti-cheat driver may require it).
    • ⚠️ Downsides
    • Security risk – Running as admin gives the game (and anything it runs) full control of your system. If the game or mods are compromised, malware can do much more damage.
Unnecessary for most modern games – Well-developed games on Steam, Epic, Game Pass, etc. usually don’t need elevated rights.
    • Possible interference – Some overlays (Discord, GeForce Experience, etc.) might not work correctly if the game is elevated but the overlay isn’t.
    Best practice
    1. Try without admin first. If the game runs fine, don’t elevate it.

    2. Run as admin only if you hit problems (crashes, saves not working, connection failures).

    3. Don’t set “Run as administrator” permanently unless it’s essential. Instead, just right-click → Run as administrator when needed.

    4. If you must run as admin, keep your system, drivers, and anti-virus up to date.
In short: only use administrator mode as a troubleshooting step, not the default.

I have never run any games or thought about it using Run As Administrator. I have been on Steam since 2004.

I think that comment is a little generalised, I have encounted software which hasn't worked as it should where "Run As Administrator" is the solution without any such statement from the developer. This is probably because the developer has ceased interest in the product long ago.

My principle is to only try it if software doesn't work any other way.

I certainly wouldn't depend on AI for a reliable answer! :)

I have never run a Steam game in admin mode, and certainly not TSC.

I don't have a problem with TSC stability.

I refuse to run a game in admin mode, it is a failure of programming if a game needs admin to function.
Not that is an issue anymore since i completely switched from Windows to Linux quite some time ago. :)

There are some utilities that require to be installed under "Run as Administator" otherwise I have never had to use the facility.
