I started my download on Steam yesterday around 7pm, saw the download was way over 300gb due to all the addons I have, I managed to get that down to around 200gb+ simply by removing all the American routes i have but don't play, still have 2 hours to go, have made the decision to now restrict buying only UK routes and stock as thats where my main interest is.
I installed the new version and the TSW6 routes and stock and then start from the bottom of the DLC list and gradually add it. Seems to be quicker than way.
You think there would be a way to import routes from previous versions once the new version and routes are installed, I believe there is a way by going into the file system and copying over the routes, but I really dont feel happy with doing that, so would appreciate having a import routes function in the sim itself.
Yes I agree there must be a better way. This is the best workaround I found. I've got quite fast broadband but it I try and do it all at once it takes hours. Last time I left it overnight to install for some reason it stopped halfway through! It's going to get worse over the next few iterations.
I feel your pain as I was forced to rely on mobile internet due to some events. Since all the other dlc are disabled until the game releases on 30, disable all the other dlc except the core TSW6 routes and leave those to download until complete. It should be around 30gb instead of 300+ Once you have the main routes you can play the game and start downloading the other routes on the background or when not using the pc. At least you can start playing the game more quickly since again all additional content that you try to download now in one go is disabled in game regardless if you have it or not. P. S. Simply copying DLC . Pak files between major game versions will not work because they are of a different version than what TSW6 needs. Only DTG could implement a system where the dlc files can be imported while the game also updates the version of the files to match the new version.
It took about 10 hours to download all the items that I have. Clearly next year will be worse as new routes and packs are added. Could someone in DTG explain why it has to be done this way instead of importing what you already have on the Steam drive? And will they start to look at methods to improve the process?
If you start TSW6 before going back into Steam and ticking a selection of DLC you want to download. That way, you won't get locked out from the game starting while it updates. That said, seriously thinking of culling out most of the US content which I rarely play, particularly the two LA commuter routes.
Glad you said that Vern, just unticked all the european stuff i have no interest in. That pushed me up from 12% to 19% on the download.
Yes I unticked all the German dlc for the same reason, partly to save download time and also because I'm short on drive space until I uninstall TSW5. I'll put some of them back today, Frankfurt S-bahn and it's layers for instance. But many I haven't played forever will stay on the shelf.
I’m going to finish up what I need for layers on the UK route first, then the rest of the UK stuff and then tackle Germany and Switzerland etc. But the chances of wanting to do Cajon or similar again are remote so the only US routes going in are likely to be LIRR and NY to Trenton for the layers on NJT.
Not long ago re-ticked Dresden - Leipzig as it is 99 miles end to end. Will have a look and then uninstall it if i do not enjoy it.
