Just seen a class 66 doing a vintage rail tour, is that actually a thing? I thought the 66 had no power for passenger carrages?
It has no ETS so no heating or lighting, which wouldn't be a massive issue on a summers day, on a winter evening however it would need either another locomotive that is ETS capable or a generator coach both of which I think get used with mainline steam locomotives.
Thought that, there is a 66 on the front with a 66 on the back, there is no other means of power? If I wanted to go a vintage tour, I am not sure I would be happy if a 66 turned up? Did all the vintage diesels break or is it a glitch?
Class 66s have done railtours over the years, most recent ones I think were for the Greatest Gathering
The new Britannic Explorer hauled by a pair of GBRf 66s in special livery. This is the former Irish Grand Hibernian Mk3s regauged to standard. This set has a Mk3 genny coach also.
One thing I will say about 66 rail tours in game is, they shouldn’t be using br blue coaches because a lot of the real rail tours are using blood and custard, brown and custard, maroon and possibly a few others, br blue coaches are like the least used out of all of them for a class 66 rail tour from my knowledge
Oh man all this talk about class 66 rail tours kinda makes me want a rail tour pack with updated layers and actual rail tour liveries
Yeah, I was thinking of buying that ECML one, but everyone say it is no good. Yeah, a stand alone rail tour pack might be an idea.
Yeah was for the Branch line society, think they had different locos each day and Im sure one of the days it was a 66 ran multiple from Derby each day
I have it for the coaches and honestly if that’s all you want, it’s not too bad but the it does lack layers and the class 47 just sucks compared to the just trains one you want photos?
I will get just coach shots in a few minutes just trying to find them/ possibly retake since I probably lost them
These coaches are Mark 2A and originally had (seems to me) dynamos for lighting. But they may have been modified to use ETS since (?). On the picture posted by Clumsy Pacer, it may be the Mk2 BFK 17105 (nicely done in TSC) at the back which provide ETS, even in summertime... (microwaves ovens in the catering vehicle ?). IMO a rail tour pack for Class 66 hauled-trains should absolutely include a generator van. Note that the 17105 only appeared in 2024 for TSC, all previous attempts to create such an useful vehicle where rather unrealistic, to say the least. Maybe one day we'll get a 73/9 for use in Scotland (with a 66), but by then, Class 99 would be ubiquitous...
Coach only (I think that’s all of them, btw was tried so may not be the best but hopefully it’s good enough, to add I’m not sponsored I just like it but the party behind it isn’t exactly the best going off the radio silence)
Mk 1s, and Mk 2s up to the C series, were fitted with axle dynamos for lighting, so it doesn't matter what pulls them as far as being able to read your newspaper. Of course, with a 66 you won't have any heating or AC, so only practical in temperate weather.
Thanks, they look good, nice BR Blue. I read somewhere that the light switches werent animated and there was a problem with the windows? Has that been sorted or no?
The main issue with the ECML Diesel Railtours is that it kind of fails at being a locomotive for railtours. I don't know too much about coaches, though (although being able to look at the Royal Coaches at the NRM again is nice). You have a pack specifically designed to provide railtours (and to be fair it does do that with 10 scenarios), but it still doesn't have all the modern stuff that a loco needs to go out. Not to mention the actual 47484 is rusting away in a field somewhere. It's like they came up with the idea to make it, realised they didn't have an actual route to put it on and then shoved it onto ECML when in reality a Class 55 would have made more sense for the route its on. I use it mostly on Blackpool, Shap and Trans-Pennine (since it subs for the other 47s) more than I bother with It's actual scenarios. Oh and the 40 and 45 are the exact same as the NTP ones.
Not sure about the light switches and widows yet but I will check after university today, but yeah they are pretty nice and probably the closest thing we will get to factory new lol
Yeah on that photo I couldn't figure out if there is a 67 on the back which would be ETS fitted or if it has a generator coach.
Are they both exactly the same though? What I'm interested in is how they are named within the game. I don't have this pack as it held little interest for me. However the thought of getting a differently named version of both the 40 and the 45 in game is that I can pair them both in a formation mod that will then allow each one to carry a different Creator's Club livery in the same formation.
