I posted this thread a while ago and even Matt answered on it. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/consoles-trend-very-skeptical.91487/page-3#post-1001206 But since then I never heard some news about how they are trying to solve the multiple problems on consoles. Yet with the release of the new TSW6 we again got blurry textures. So the question remains, since TSW5 we have blurry textures on multiple routes plus the first route without layers on gen 9, is DTG working on this stuff and how important is it for them? I have a feeling that they are slowly giving up on gen 9 consoles and maybe sitting it out untill the next gen?! And as I often read the last time in this forum PC players stop blaming us using a console playing this game because if DTG has the claim to produce a game for consoles too it should work the same way as it does on a computer. So DTG what are you doing?
It’s definitely issue even with all layers off getting blurry textures on Riveria line seems funny how this only started happening after early access finished as no blurry textures on series x in early access
Never saw that but with all 28 I did, it was pretty easy cutting layers like the 159 and sleeper since one isn’t even the correct train and the other is only seen at night
Also the 802 is definitely buggy in diesel mode because you can spawn in 801 azuma and diesel mode on that works perfectly fine in diesel mode always works first time of asking as well
If the train doesn’t load in then it isn’t an issue anyway, so cutting the sleeper is pointless. For a noticeable change you’d need to turn off the HST, 166 or one of the various steam layers that leaves stock all over the map. In any case it goes to show how ridiculous this issue is, since it’s not a problem on PS5, even when you play early morning runs & the depots + main stations are full of stock. There’s obviously something very wrong somewhere in the game.
My PC has 32Gb system RAM and 8GB video RAM. My Xbox series X has 10GB of shared RAM. The Xbox series S has 8GB of shared RAM as do the PS4 and Xbox., PS5 has 16GB with 10GB allocated to GPU, and the pro improves on that with an extra 2GB You cannot pour a quart into a pint pot and the best that can be achieved on a reasonably specified PC in 2025 cannot be replicated on an Xbox console. I like the simplicity of consoles and PCs can be a real pain to maintain, but a console is a compromise from the day it is released and the compromise becomes starker with time. Series S is getting cut down timetables because of its RAM capacity. My impression is that PS5 users have less issues than Xbox series X users and that PS5 pro users generally have the best console experience. That would seem to track with the hardware capabilities It looks like more traffic = more system load and turning off layers = less load. Different systems have different capacities to handle that load. So unless we want TSW to be programmed for the lowest common denominator, e.g. no-one gets really busy timetables, console users may have to remove layers to get better performance.
I mean it worked like after getting rid of those two things didn’t become burry, it was minor burry textures before
And again the comparison to a PC. As I said if DTG wants to release a game on all plattforms they should optimize it in a way that it works the same way on every system. If you read the requirements for TSW6 on a pc for balanced you only need 16 GB ram plus 8 gb for graphics. A Xbox Series X has 16 GB shared Ram this not far away from what is needed because the Xbox uses the power in another way than a pc a bit more efficient. Never the less we all pay the same price for this game. The game has always been running the same way on pc and console and now there is a difference. This should not be the case. No one ever said from the beginning "better play this game on a computer".
In my experience this is simple not true I first played TSW 4, on both my PC and an Xbox one X., the difference was night and day the PC was much better. When I upgraded to an Xbox series X the visuals were much improved but overall performance was still below the PC e.g draw distance. You cannot make an Xbox series S perform as well as my four year old PC. So the question is do you want everybody to have a game that plays as well as their system can handle or do we limit all users to timetables that an Xbox Series S can handle?
Yes I know but I think at least the PS5 and the Series X should be almost even with what is possible with a pc. I am not talking about the overall performance but something like the blurry textures is just not acceptable. Of course I am not programming games but in any way it must be possible to create a game that is compatible with many plattforms without downgrading the pc players. Its just sad for someone who loves this game but cannot enjoy it 100%.
TSW4 is now 2 years old, current gen consoles are almost 5 years on the marked. Comparing a PC with a Xbox One X with a 2 years old game is not really fair. The One X has the old and slow Jaguar APU and even HDD, so not really suitable for games of today. The blurred texture issues are also a problem on Series X, so not a specific Series S issue. So maybe it's time for a 2K mode on console to reduce the size in memory of textures. I'm also wondering why the complete timetable has to be loaded into memory, why not read this from the fast SSD of the current consols. In one of the streams they said the timetable of one of the Frankfurt routes is more the 1GB in memory.
I don’t think Microsoft will release another console after the Series X. Their next prototype looks like a mini tower PC than a console.
They’ve also hinted about getting out of the console business and strictly selling games while pushing their cloud offering (which they tried to push 2 years ago).
Yes which boils back down to the wacky way DTG designed this game in the first place. My understanding is that to access trains and rolling stock from other routes it needs to "mount" all those entire DLC's which probably just eat memory for no good reason. I am pretty sure they have this game set up to run locked 4K on consoles which is probably part of the problem. Very few games actually run in 4K on consoles, they use dynamic resolution scaling to keep performance steady. I am not sure if TSW does that.
