Steam [tsw6] No Option To Import Existing Profile, Goes Straight To Character Select/name

Per title, on Steam I get no option to import my existing profile, it goes straight to character selection and naming. How can I import? Thanks.

 

Isn't the game supposed to offer the option of importing your old profile at the beginning rather than create a new one?

Just an FYI, I was prompted to keep my profile or create a new one. I wonder if you were fully logged in to dovetail.live or something strange interferd with this.

 

It seems indeed that something strange has interfered. It didn't ask me to log into Dovetail Live. Would like to get this resolved as I can't really play right now.

 

There is no TrainSimWorld6 folder even after creating a character. In Documents/My Games/ - the other folders from prior versions are there.

 

Don't worry about people mistakenly talking about dovetail live, that has literally nothing to do with this, I have never created an account or used one ingame, and I have always had the profile import option.

 

Yes, done all of that. As shown there is not an an option to import. My old profile (actually have two in my TSW5 folder) is "Casey Jones" and my new one is "Casey".

I play on PS5. During the five days of early access, I successfully transferred my account from TSW5 to TSW6.
Then, on the release date, I started downloading all my DLC add-ons. So I had to do it one by one again, constantly being careful not to download the PS4 add-ons. That took quite a bit of time and attention.
A few days later, and yes, I have all my add-ons back in TSW6. During all that downloading and installing, I thought I could delete TSW5, since I'd already transferred my account.

I couldn't wait to start TSW6 again, so I didn't wait any longer and started.

The fact that I immediately landed in the main menu should have been a warning. But I didn't realize then that all my progress was lost and I had to start over at level 0.

I only realized this when I was back at level 7, so I guess there's no going back.

I decided to double-check if I hadn't done it wrong. And it turns out I had.

On the "My Profile" tab, I see that I accidentally created a new player named "++++++++++++++++++++++++"

It often happens that I'm sitting on that little wireless keyboard when I lost it again.

I could easily reselect my original player, so... sorry, my fault!

 

Huh. Does PS5 not give an option to keep saves when uninstalling? Or keep cloud backups of all your saves you can redownload?

Seeing it mention OneDrive makes me suspect something related to that may be the cause. I had to fight tooth and nail with Windows to completely remove OneDrive and prevent files from being saved there.

 

If Onedrive's trying to hijack your system, that would indeed be a likely cause if it's stealing your files away from the folders they belong in.
