Hey everyone, as of recent, I've been attempting to make TSW a smoother experience on my ageing PC. I've attempted -DX12 launch settings on Steam and Lossless Scaling, however, there are little to no noticeable improvements that I've experienced. So I'll ask the community here (that have a PC, of course), what are everyone's specs, and what is your average FPS on TSW6 (and 5) routes? My current specs: Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7500 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40 GHz Installed RAM - 32.0 GB Graphics Card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (4 GB) System Type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Thanks in advance.
My system was overkill when I bought it just over 2 years ago, but it should be quite a while still before I need to upgrade anything on it. Processor - 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900KS, 3200Mhz, 24 Cores, 32 Logical Processes RAM - 64GB GPU - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 I've set it to max 120fps in TSW, as unlimited sounds like a jet engine. Unlimited gets me to around 190-195 in Riviera if I allow it. WMCL South It sits between 100-120, dropping to around 70-80 in places like Willesden. All graphics settings in-game set as high as possible. I'm sure I could optimise and make it look better but I prefer to play rather than screw around with settings.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D GPU: RTX 4070 Ti SUPER RAM: 32 GB I play in full hd res (1920x1080) 60 fps (locked)
Checks out, in TSW5 I get around 90FPS@1440p using DX12 on a 16-core 32 thread AMD CPU @2.5GHz-5GHz with 32GB RAM and an RTX 4090, using Jetwash's ini settings. Mostly use some power saving settings if I am not streaming, but then crank it up and get the jet engine sounds if I am capturing and encoding the video while playing, to avoid that adding stutter.
The 1050 is probably the bottleneck. My PC has a GTX1650 4Gb but I have been told in no uncertain terms by several people on here it's basically an obsolete GPU in these days of RTX this and that. However that said, after turning the resolution down from 4K to 1440p (though most older routes ran fine at 4K) I get fairly good performance with the odd bit of stutter and sound squelching on the most intensive routes. WCML Over Shap being the worst, though not tested in TSW6 yet (maybe later). While a new PC is on the cards, not in any great rush to spend out >£1k as this old potato still runs most of the other games I play perfectly even the likes of Forza Horizon 4 or Dirt Rally 2.0. Farm Sim 25 does great at 1440p. In addition I managed to get signed up for the MS extended 12 month security for Windows 10 which postpones the Win 11 crunch until next October. (And I didn't have to pay £25 either!).
My computer is build for flightsimming, which is far more demanding than TSW. I keep it locked at 60fps in 4k, could probably go higher but haven’t seen the need to: 7800x3d, RTX5090, 64GB DDR 6000 Ram. I’ll note that even with this system I will get the occasional stutter, which I understand is due to how the game loads scenery and is largely unavoidable.
Yes, your GPU is going to be the problem going forward. I had that card many years ago when it was thought very capable. You have enough Ram, but you need at least 8 GB of VRam. And a fast NVME drive is another must have. I have an RTX 3080ti which is just good enough these days. I " downgraded " from 4k to 1440p to get better performance and it works well for now. I'd like to upgrade but my system won't accept a 40xx card so I'm looking at a new machine even though the rest of my system is fine. Maybe next year.
Ryzen 7600X 32 GB DDR5 (5200 MHz) Radeon 6900 XT (16 GB) Samsung 990 NVMe SSD (PCIe 4.0) I run TSW5 with mods on DX12 at 1920x1080. I usually set Graphics Preset to High, but can pull off Ultra, with a framerate between 60 and 90 FPS.
With Ryzen 9800X3D - 64Go Ram - RTX4080 Super and with monitor 3440 x 1440 100Hz gsync I run with DX12 at 70fps limited with ultra preset.
Your 2016 GPU is indeed the main bottleneck, the 2017 CPU less so if you overclock it. If you can source a less-old GPU then you will get more FPS, the stuttering will be lessened if you increase the shader cache and ignore the performance on the first run of each route after every driver update. My PC is 4 years old, an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X with 64GB RAM. Upgraded the GPU last year to a 4070Ti Super. Very happy with the performance in TSW once I've done a shader-caching run. DX12.
My PCs are in my signature and both handle TSW just fine, the laptop ironically is better in some ways since it has an OLED display. Both of them are 1440/1600p. Your 1050Ti is 100% a bottleneck in your case, although on the CPU side you unfortunately don't really have an upgrade path. You could put an RX 9060XT 16GB or a 4070 or something in it and then upgrade the rest in the future. Just for the love of everything do not buy an 8GB GPU, pick up a used 4070 over a new 8GB 5060Ti as an example, TSW can and will use all the VRAM you give it and I have seen 14GB used before.
Thanks for the info everyone, will look into a new PC sooner than later and some suggestions are looking fabulous.
I actually make a point with my laptop of having it dock to a pair of monitors that are the same resolution as the inbuilt display for consistency of experience, but the inbuilt display is 240Hz instead of 144Hz. The tradeoff of higher refresh but being 10" smaller.
