Got TSW6 starter pack for PS5 and Riviera route plus Voyager. Downloaded nearly 30 old routes and a number of loco add ons. TSW6 start up time is slightly quicker. The UI is almost identical to 5. The content manager is a huge improvement to the confusing mess in 5. Riviera route is lovely, very well made. It runs fairly smoothly with just the occasional frame drops and stutters. Given the quality and density of the scenery it performs surprisingly well but there seems to be an increase of vegetation and scenery pop up. This may be the price paid for route optimisation and a compromise needed to produce the apparent improvements in smoothness. The 220 Voyager is a very nice train though needs a bit more work on it. The brake values in the old style HUD only goes to 1 forcing you to use the on screen notification for brake settings and they are only visible for a short time. The new features are a bit hit and miss for me. I got the Riviera line train and station announcements in the 802 when I first ran the route but they have mysteriously stopped working. I do not hear them now in the 802, 150 or 220 despite them being fully enabled in the settings menu. Not sure why they aren't functional but I am more likely to just disable and forget them rather than face the nightmare of reinstalling TSW6 and almost 50 extra route and train downloads all over again. Having just done that, I cannot face it again for a function that is currently limited to 1 route and is not essential to me. The other new feature of unexpected events again seem a bit hit and miss. The train faults so far are limited to the 220 suffering an engine stall every few minutes and requiring me to hold the start button down for several seconds to clear. This is just irritating and I am on the verge of disabling the option. Temporary speed restrictions have appeared here and there haphazardly. The track markings are a bit random and strangely placed and the HUD often fails to correctly indicate them. I got a TSR whilst testing a Class 43 on Great Western Express and the trackside signs were on the track verge furthest away from my position making them very hard to spot. I have not seen any signal delays on the Riviera line or any where else so again I am not too sure if they are working. Performance on the whole is quite good with noticeable improvements on some older routes like GWE, NTP and London to Brighton. Especially noticeable is the smoothness when passing other trains at speed, something most obvious on the Brighton route near Victoria. Cathcart circle also seems smoother. Performance is not always improved. I found the frame drops and stutters actually worse on the Milton Keynes to Euston route and San Bernardino to be so awful that I deleted it. The ridiculous floating cars on that route are a complete joke too... Overall performance is slightly better than TSW5 but the constant vegetation and scenery pop ups look quite ugly and amateurish. The new features are really hit and miss and of dubious value. The zombie imbeciles that represent passengers show no improvement in their ludicrously stupid behaviour though they seem to have reduced their previous suicidal tendencies of walking along the track. All in all TSW6 is OK but nothing great. The Riviera route is well made and most old routes run well with some running better than TSW5. Given the free starter pack upgrade I shouldn't complain but the time and effort required to download every bit of my previous content is getting tedious now and I may well have second thoughts to go through all of this hassle again next time with TSW7 as the benefits seem hardly worthwhile.
I'm enjoying it. 45 hours so far. Some stuttering which I can live with. Biggest issue I've spotted is the 'Silent Hill' filter that seems to be applied to the lighting around Aller Tunnel (Paignton branch) - but again I can live with it. The Voyager is great fun to drive, as is the 150. Haven't done much in the 802 yet, and I've yet to fully experience the other new routes.
The honeymoon is now over, with two out of the three new routes anyway. Riviera will remain a go to, but tonight I found myself back on WCML driving the Class 86 with a traction motors and knocked out. But as the final verdict on TSW6 vs. TSW5 it looks and plays no different, even down to the occasional stutter and sound squelch. TSW6 really was the emperor’s new clothes.
What are you playing it on OldVern? I play it on the PS5 and I have noticed a difference in the games smoothness, WCML North plays better in TSW6 than TSW5 on the PS5, and other routes too, the different is not big, but I have noticed the difference
PC I7 4770 GTX 1650. Well to be fair the stutter isn't quite as bad as before on Shap and also need to take into account the first run is building the shaders so benefit of the doubt on that one.
Got the free pack, all my TSW5 stuff came with it so just carried on as usual. One thing perhaps it's me but but everything seems wishy washy and now not as sharp and like it needs the contrast and sharpness turned up.
I've played around 37 hours in the last 2 weeks, and I've been enjoying all 3 of the new routes. The extension to Leipzig is something I've been wishing for a while and I'm happy it's been added. However, I'm disappointed that the 1442 didn't get a much-needed upgrade and I'm also disappointed with the absence of the S-Bahn Tunnels. The Morristown line has been done really well. Finally, DTG had the right team with the right people which enable them to complete the route and the signalling system properly, unlike the disaster that New York to Trenton was. The Riviera Line was also a route that I've been wishing for a long time. It has some of the best scenery to date and gives me the opportunity to give the GWR HST a good run, a first since GWE released 8 years ago. The new "Expect the Unexpected" features are broken and poorly implemented, so I've turned them off for the meantime. I think DTG should have added it to one route, test it and listen to community feedback then slowly add it to exiting routes. But it's only there because DTG are using it to justify releasing TSW 6 when all of this could have been added to TSW 5. The Audio Announcements are nice though.
Absolute rubbish my experience have not got any faults random events or signal delays been on too dovetail and they don't want too know waste of money on this game
I'm not sure what platform you're on, but on PC steam it's identical to TSW5 for me after enabling DX12, matching in-game gfx settings and copying over ini files from the previous game.
In all honesty I wish I hadn’t bought the Deluxe Pack on PC. Should have taken the free update, maybe bought Riviera and then waited for the Voyager in a sale. That would have left £30 over towards the JT and All Aboard routes. Morristown has already gone the way of most of the other US commuter routes for me, just doesn’t get the juices flowing (and as mentioned in the feedback threads, not helped by the ghastly gypsum ballast textures inserted at random with no blending to the grey and the bugs on the electro diesel loco). Leipzig truly a non event and likely to get played as frequently as the original just to Riesa, i.e. dusted off once or twice a year.
Enjoying playing the UK route and 802, but a bit disappointed with the new features - TSR's 99% 40mph with no AWS magnet (and occasionally wrong facing signs), but the biggest downside is that I haven't seen any signal delays/disruption to the timetable (UK) with the new signal delay feature - still waiting to hear from DTG how it's all implemented, a bit quiet from them regarding this. Just getting constant greens, apart from approach control, with events set to high.
I purchased the TSW6 Deluxe Pack, but as l live in the country with a slow internet connection l wasn’t able to play in until the next day as it takes ages to download. So far l have installed Manchester Airport, Preston to Carlisle and GWR. I am having to leave most of my collection on TSW 5 as it will take about 500 hours to bring everything l own across and l am totally sick of having this chore every year. I am not surprised to see all the complaints about bugs and errors etc. l just wish DTG would get an issue working properly for all our use, but every new release brings out more work for DTG to do to fix the bugs and get it right.
Read in another thread somewhere the EP is in France at the moment. Does that mean he has been summoned to Focus HQ to have the riot act read, I wonder?
Got nowt to do with your country, I live in England and downloaded everything, that's 127 dlcs in ten hours...... Also just would like to point out that my girlfriend lives down south of the country and didn't have any trouble downloading all my stuff on the series X I have at her place either.....
Nwp has stated in another post that I just read that he gets on average 4GB of data per hour. Do the maths, it’s going to take him a very long time to download his collection. I don’t know who his ISP is, but I’d like to think there are faster ISP’s out there. I don’t know what ISP he is with either, that context is missing.
The main problem is that the cartoonish graphics have never really moved on from the first TSW iteration. Still far too many "copy and paste" assets from older routes, generic bridges and tunnels that look nothing like the originals, buildings that lack detail, generic unrealistic trees... Matt once told me that they would only do the Riviera line when they could get the sea and waves crashing against the sea wall just right... yet here they are looking like something from a PS2 racing game... Clearly memory issues remain a barrier to further improvements. Maybe DTG have simply reached the end of the road with this game engine?
l live in the countryside. Nothing to do with a country. I am miles from a bus and train line. My home is at the top of a hill and it is very quite and peaceful. As l said l live in the country not a town. l just finished downloading Kassel-Weisburg which took just over 10 hours on 0.9. I know someone in Manchester on 522 which is 600 time faster than mine and probably would take them a couple of minutes. Living on top of a hill is no fun with the internet and Virgin Broadband is not available here.
"Country" as in the opposite of "City". It's denoted by the use of the definite article "the" country without anything else indicating a specific defined political entity.
I’m enjoying it…have spent most of my time on the Riviera and Morristown lines, am enjoying both of them immensely.
I don't feel quite as suckered into buying the deluxe pack as I did last year. I'll probably play the Morristown and Riviera routes quite a lot. As they say, two out of three ain't bad. But the game overall is no further along in terms of development. Graphically it's identical to TSW5 and it seems that many of the old issues are still with us. There's clearly been no attempt to fix any bugs from previous iterations, merely trying to cover them over by introducing another series of questionable gimmicks which, going by what others are saying, I'll probably toggle off. I wish I could do the same for the adaptive eye thing, which is a witches curse on the game. As I've said elsewhere, there's some fun to be had on some routes and trains and I'll leave it at that.
I do believe I'm actually looking forward to playing the Ludwigsbahn which I just picked up for £7.49, more than Dresden to Leipzig or Morristown, the latter of which has left me cold. Got to finish up a Shap run with the 86 first though.
As it currently stands, I would be perhaps inclined to pick up some kind of US edition with Morristown and the ALP-45DP, but not until there's been a bit more polish.
Only took the free starter pack, and installed all my pervious dlc back on, (again) phew. Not getting any new routes till the blurry issue has been resolved on series x.
How is TSW6, very much like TSW5 in that advertised features don't work on day one! It'll be fine when we get TSW7 this time next year and have something new to complain about.
On balance, I'm having a good time and I'm very satisfied with the new routes and stock. I've been up and down the Riviera Line many times IRL, and it's a lovely re-creation. The 150 is a nice drive and another improvement over its predecessors, the 802 looks and sounds great and the Voyager is a very welcome addition. The timetable seems pretty spot-on and whoever did the scenery has done a very good job on the whole. Morristown is equally enjoyable. I've never been to the area or anywhere near, so I've no experience to go on, but the scenery is varied, signalling and safety systems are good fun to learn, it's busy and the Arrow is charming. The ALP45 seems like an awesome beast as well, it's sleek, imposing and has a lovely, throaty roar in diesel mode. Dresden-Leipzig is a good effort, but the lack of new locos compared to what's on offer in the other routes does reduce the excitement somewhat. It's busy and has a great variety of services but it feels like DTG is coasting a little on its (admittedly mostly pretty good) back catalogue of DB locos and units. It's not bad and perfectly enjoyable in itself, but doesn't quite compare to this year's US and UK offerings. As for new features, random faults is a fun idea but the frequency needs toning down. Like a lot of people, I've turned them off for now because it's a bit much once the novelty wears off. There also needs to be better integration into the UI - you just get one-off indicators when the fault occurs and when you fix it, and it feels tacked-on rather than a natural part of the game. I think with a nip and tuck it could be really good though. TSRs are fine, but sign placement is buggy and it would be nice to see it more in keeping with real operating procedures e.g. AWS going off for UK trains when it is time to slow down. Announcements add a surprising amount to the atmosphere - more variety would be good, but this is maybe the most impactful of the new features, and you really notice its absence on an older route. Ambience is a nice touch, not much else to say about it really. I have fast enough internet that I'm not bothered about the yearly releases and the option of the free starter pack means that I feel like picking up the deluxe version was a choice, so I'm not going to comment on that. Performance (on PC/Steam) seems to be better than TSW5, with fewer stutters and frame rate drops, and generally feels more consistent. Loading times are a bit quicker, which is all welcome. There are the usual TSW niggles, but no real show-stoppers. So I'm happy with my purchase (two excellent new routes, a decent extension and some welcome stock), but I would like to see some of the undercooked new features get the attention they deserve.
For me some stutters, Voyager wont move after a station stop - same issue on Morristown with Arrow when stopping a bit nshort of final destination - nothing wouldget it going. So 2 out of 2 runs end in failure - not impressed so far.
Performance wise I have started to notice a bit more stuttering even on routes where the shaders should have compiled. Ludwigsbahn is doing it, particularly around Mannheim and diving back into Dresden to Leipzig, approaching Dresden lots of stutter which wasn’t there in TSW5 on the old Rush Hour route version. WCMLoS wasn’t too bad but probably no better than TSW5. It’s a hard thing to quantify but the old familiar sound squelching is still there and on routes - like Dresden to Leipzig - where it never popped up before. TSW(6) IMHO remains a horribly optimised game.
Using TSW6? I've had my first-ever crash to desktop on PC and been playing TSW since the 2nd title came out. Some good things but the blurry textures is still an issue. FPS not noticeably different unless the stupid fog comes in when I forget to turn off dynamic weather. Random faults have all been switched off for now as they were happening non-stop. Hope CrossCountry trains don't mind their fleet being represented in TSW as fault-laden! I got the Voyager and I like it - apart from the fact we've been sold an unfinished product due to it's door bugs and it could do with some better sounds. Exterior view when it's over 100mph brings up weird sounds on occasion. Either that's the model or there's finally a train in TSW that my PC can't handle the sounds. But mostly, it's been a good chance to buy a couple of German routes I wanted at really cheap prices in the steam sale. Maintalbahn is a pretty boring route, but the DB BR 642 layers into so many other routes and I've been driving it on them. TL;DR - TSW6 is TSW5 (and TSW4?) with a couple of (nice) gimmicks thrown in and of course, still plenty of bugs.
I actually had a CTD finishing a run on Ludwigsbahn yesterday evening. It was just a short trip into Mannheim, one of the early Journey elements. I figured all was not well as the cab gauges kept flickering and leaking light through. After I finished the run and selected to go back to Main Menu… blam, I got the Windows Desktop instead. Possible memory leak? I’m used to TSW not always running first time with UE4 render errors but a CTD moving within the menu system previously not encountered. Better bung that Pinoy coder a few more pesos!
Game was running great for me during Early Access, but since release I've been having problems. I was running the game with the -DX12 startup option without a problem, but after release I had an incident where Leipzig-Dresden brought my rig to its knees on a regular timetable. Heavy frame drops, scratchy sound glitches and pops, freezing, etc. This persisted even after quitting to menu. I don't know if it's a VRAM issue or if its a CPU issue, but it was bad enough for me to quit to desktop as I was concerned about damaging my speakers. I also get clicks and pops on the Riviera line now where I never used to before. So I switched back to DX11. Still getting some pops and freezes I never got during early access. I didn't change any settings and I've been playing the entire time with all my layers turned on. This pushed me to try out Lossless Scaling and now things are running a lot better with upscaling and frame gen. I still haven't tried switching back to DX12 though. I shouldn't have to do this as the game was running pretty great before, but I'm glad I found a workaround for now.
The Voyager bug is fine now when you start, but I did have one instance after I stopped that it would not move off until I did the door trick. Also, the Voyager is a resource hog!
Riviera Line : Leave Plymouth head for Exeter if this was real by the time I got to Exeter the cab be dented to XXXX and would be full of branches, completely kills the route for me.
I just nabbed the free update then went for the Riviera and Voyager combo because those are the sort of routes that are priority, UK ones. But I do like anything retro from abroad so I might pick up the Arrow and Morristown when it goes on deep sale. I like the vintage German routes from TSG but the more modern ones which are all clones of each other don’t interest me more than what I already have. It was a wise decision from what I have read. Now I am all prepared for the B-Ham to Crewe release. I turned off train faults because they are far too frequent but like the announcements. As for an upgrade from TSW5 to 6 I’d say that’s all just in the title rather than under the bonnet.
