I had Train Sim World 4 and 5 installed on my Windows 10 PC through the Steam Games platform. For reasons beyond my control, when I installed version 5, I lost the progress linked to my user in version 4. I had spent many hours playing and made significant progress in Train Sim World 5.

Now, upon purchasing and installing version 6, that progress has been completely erased. Neither version 6 nor version 5 recognizes it anymore.
Has anyone else experienced the same thing? Could you suggest a solution? I already wrote to Dovetail’s support page, but it wasn’t very helpful. Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it.

The profiles should be stored somewhere like Documents\My Games\TrainSimWorld5\Saved\SaveGames, in a file called PP_(something).sav. You could try making backups of them and then copying them to TSW 6

Installing a new version of TSW, it goes in wholly different folders, so it should not be capable of corrupting your older save. If something has caused that, my first recommendation is to run a system restore using your moest recent backup image of the drive. That should restore your old save which you can then continue using. Normal behaviour when a new TSW version is installed is for it to scan the drive for the prior game's save folder the first time you run it, and allow you to copy your progress. TSW6 seems to have a glitch where it cannot see that for some people, but that should make it even more impossible for it to impact those files. The main way people tend to lose that progress ussually is by ticking the box to also delete save files when uninstalling the old version prior to installing the new version.

Thanks man, appreciate it. I considered what you said, but I don’t see the solution.

I really appreciate your help, but your suggestion feels like too much sacrifice for me. I’d rather stay with what I’ve lost.

You should still be able to access it by going to “change profile”

I don't get you. You complain about progress loss, that seems very important to you. We try to help you, by telling how it works and where it is stored. It is a simple file copy to restore, which should work in game as well on the profile page, but you tell it is a sacrifice to do this?? Why are you complaining here?

I'm going to guess he just likes playing the victim and then has the ammo to moan about DTG......

Yeah... it's stored online with DTG too isn't it?
So even if the file was corrupted you can always just access it again.

Nope. DTG has your mastery records, but not your full game profile.

No, that’s not the case at all. What you’re saying isn’t true. I just haven’t been able to find the real solution yet, honestly. Still, I really appreciate the effort you guys are making to try and help me. I don’t usually like posting in the forums — I only come here when I truly have an issue I can’t solve. My only interest is to play and not bother anyone.

You may very well be right, it’s just that I can’t find a way to reactivate them. When I go into TSW 6 or even the older TSW 5, it gives me the option to recover profiles, but the one I was playing with the most advanced score never shows up. And what’s stored on my hard drive is really difficult for me to interpret

A “sacrifice” in Argentina is a metaphorical way of saying that something is almost impossible to achieve. I’ve tried many things and still haven’t managed to fix it. Yes, at first it was really important to me to keep my game with all the progress from three years of playing. But well, I’ve already resigned myself. I grabbed another game and started from scratch. What else can I do? Thank you very much.
