    Now Hiring.png Hello, all.

I originally posted this in the off-topic section, before I relealised this could probably fit here. Anyway, I, as Anson Rail Studios, am looking for a modeller to help with an upcoming project. This is a high risk, high(ish) reward thing. If you get hired, I might keep you for one project, or mutiple projects depending on how we feel. Head over to ARS Hiring for more information, or email me at ansonrailstudios@gmail.com.
    Thanks,
    Anson

Just had a look at the site, is this a project for TSC or TSW?

West Wales Lines would be a nice addition, but is it Aber to Machynlleth.. Welshpool.. Shrewsbury?

Personally I’d want to know the size of the project to know what I’d be signing up for first!

    Hi, Shredder

I understand your confusion. This project is for TSW and is seperate from the West Wales Lines. That is a solo project. I can't reveal what you'd be working on publicly but it would be rolling stock and you'll have to do most of the modelling. I will do the rest of the work as that is what I'm good at :). If you email me I can share some more information on what the project is.

    Thanks,
    Anson
Edit: This project would be semi-in-collaboration wit DTG themselves

"High risk, high reward" is probably not the best way to describe a job opportunity...

"You will only get paid if Dovetail Games approves our project to be released as a DLC on Steam/Epic Games/Xbox/Playstation, in which..."

Nah... if you want to employ someone, you need to pay them. Otherwise it's a business partnership.

I understand this is not the best way to descirbe a job, but I just need to be honest. I don't have the money to pay someone if I don't earn any money from the project.

Have you even talked to DTG about releasing whatever project you're working on?

You'd be better off just asking if anyone wanted to volunteer for a freeware project.

Really? His writing is a lot better than I'd expect for a 13 year old.

Feel like if someone is 13 they shouldn't be "employing" people to begin with, tbh

If he is 13, then he is not even allowed to sign contracts with DTG or any other contracts.

Then his parents would have to sign these contracts.

I do realise it said that I was 13 on TSC. I’m not and this has been rectified.

If he’s not 13 then he has employed a 13 year old boy to narrate his youtube videos.

And here’s a quote from his TSC thread from a few months ago…

Is anyone being mean? I'm seeing justified questions about the basis for this endeavour, given some evidence that the OP is a minor. I'll add to that the potential tax implications of a paid-for relationship.

It often is also the opposite : lying about how young one is, and still torrents of tears...

Agreed, there are some really mean minded people on here that like to run their mouth, just because this is the internet (mention no names).
People attack people on here just for asking questions, it’s insane!

Hi, guys. I'd like us to stop talking about this, as it is not the point of this thread. I am not 13 years, granted I sound quite young in my videos (I guess that is how I turned out). I am still in school (take that which ever way you want), which people might say is still too young to get someone helping you on a project. Key word: "helping". This is NOT a full time job, and anyone you wants to be a full time modeller, look elsewhere.

I don't appriecate the way some of you are responding to these accusations. If I really was 13, I would be upset, and as Double Yellow and Star have pointed out recently, people will just be mean for no reason on this platform. I thank anyone who still supports this project, regardless of the accusations, and I cannot wait to share more with you all soon!

    Thanks,
    Anson
P.S. I hope this is the last time we talk of this

Hope this doesn’t happen again, and I must say I don’t think this is the first time this has happened where people attack a person for trying to be a third party

No-one is being mean. Your original post doesn't mention helping, it says you are hiring which implies you are paying money. Also, your very own website which you linked to says this:

I do think I could have worded it better, I admit that. But everyone who has emailed has been told this is not full time. I have talked about money and I think it is clear enough to turn the people who just want to do the job and get payed, away

    Anyway, I'm out.

    Anson,

As a clearly precocious young lad I feel a responsibility to advise you that at your age there's a lot more money in cyber crime. Try hacking Marks & Spencer.

I'm putting my thoughts in here, and my initial thought is not intended to be mean, but it does seem like there is some attempt to cover up identity, saying a few months ago on forums effectively that you are a kid and not even GCSE age, and now stating that you aren't 13 but in school ("take that which ever way you want") – so maybe you're 14?

I think your idea and project would be better received if not dressed up as a potentially paid project that "would be semi-in-collaboration wit DTG themselves". Which read as if something with DTG is already in place, which it isn't, correct? A misrepresentation of yourself and the project is problematic, for yourself and anyone getting in touch to work on it. And signs of dishonesty will put people off, compared to saying I'm a kid but I have this passion project I'd like some help with. Whatever the truth is, because it isn't clear.

And you or others might think I am indeed being mean, but I'm not. I'm being honest for your sake about how this is coming across, but also to point out the reality that if you are a school kid or below what is considered adult age, you are not going to be able to sign contracts to bring this into reality. Potentially you would need to have your parents/guardians set up a company in some form to represent you and handle contracts and money.

Now, all of this said, I came here to offer encouragement, because you obviously have a passion and an ambition. I say go for it. Absolutely follow that ambition. But be realistic, be honest, and research the reality and legality of how this works.

But also, this passion project might not work out now for all manner of reasons, but if it doesn't then keep building at it until you are old enough, experienced and knowledgeable enough...

My brother was around 7 years old when he started learning to program a ZX81, quickly moving onto machine code (assembly language), and trying to make his own games (did a very good job at one I recall) but we never became the next Darling brothers (Codemasters). For a start, I was too busy playing games than the making them bit. But with persistence in the face of people mocking him when he was building his own 3D graphics engine for goodness knows what reason, he eventually got into the games industry and has worked on everything from arcade machines, to an interactive nursery rhymes book for Apple, a project for a zoo in the US, to franchises such as Lego, Worms, Halo, Civilization, King of Fighters, etc., across the major platforms.

In other words, whatever you're doing, however old you are, keep at it, stay determined, never let a naysayer put you off, and good luck!

I would like to thank you for your kind words. I have discussed this with my parents - and they support me. I understand that maybe I am too young for such a big project, but I have contacted DTG and I will start working on this with the skills I have, and build on them until the dreams become reality.

    Thanks,
    Anson

Anson, I don't say this to be mean, but take this thread as a life lesson for whatever you go on to do. The internet keeps receipts, and unless you're open and honest someone will always spot discrepancies.

Either you're 13 as you originally put in your TSC profile (which you've now removed the year of birth from), or if not you're clearly not much older. Frankly it doesn't matter how old you are, but it shows why it always pays to be honest.

Us old gits remember being young and full of ideas, so keep following your dreams, do it with integrity and you'll be a great success.

VirginTrainsIsGreat - firstly I assume it's obvious but if not then to be clear my initial response was a joke. I will attempt a more serious one here.

In a way I'm not sure I would be quite as pessimistic as other posters. I had a forary at about your age into developing for what was Microsoft Train Simulator and was part of one of the very first add ons released - some variety pack from Abacus I think their name was. I didn't have a bank account at the time and they wanted to pay me in euros and this being early 2000s there was some guy in the Netherlands who would send me hash if I paid it into his bank account (and it was a *lot* of money for a 14 or 15 year old at the time - I think about 400 euros). At least he kept his side of the bargain. But don't do that, drugs are bad and people have a lot less of a sense of humour about that sort of thing thee days. My point of this anecdote is that it's absolutely feasible for you to be doing something entrepeneurial at your age. And I encourage that.

But what you absolutely do not want to be doing is getting involved in business partnerships or even worse being an employer (or quasi employer) at the moment. There is a heap of legislation involved and if you fail to dot one i or cross one t you could personally be on the hook for a five or even six figure sum.

Instead I would be seeking out organisations for young entrepeneurs. There isn't enough entrepreneurship in this country and if you start getting involved now you can start building your skills and be ready to "hit the ground running" after you leave school if you want (university is looking increasingly pointless for most people if you ask me). That business is probably not going to be train simulator add ons - there's bugger all there in truth for more than about ten people. What it is is up to you.

I also fully agree with March Hare about no bullshitting/weasel wording and please do learn this lesson. In business your word is your bond, the importance of this can't be overstated. None of us are mad. We find it quite fun tbh, so don't be embarrassed or need to apologise or whatever - stuff I know hard's for a teenager. Anyone who goes on about it after this thread can probably be ignored (unless you continue to make a habit of it).

    Best of luck.
