Hands up if you've been looking for new UK Freight! Well, our friends at ATS have been working on the very solution with the Class 90 Add-on. ATS: "We are pleased to announce the arrival of the Class 90 electric locomotive for Train Sim World 6. This mixed-traffic loco has been a staple of the UK rail network for over 30 years." "Whether hauling passenger trains at 110 mph or container freight at 75 mph, the Class 90 is equally at home. Powered by thyristor control, it was a modernised successor to the Class 87, offering improved solid-state traction and reliability." "Drivers often praise the Class 90 for its comfortable, ergonomic cab and helpful driver aids like Speed Set, which maintains a set speed and reduces workload—especially on long runs." "This first Class 90 DLC will highlight its freight capabilities, ensuring you can run to time up and down the West Coast Main Line South (WCMLS) without interfering with higher-priority traffic." "We’re excited to share more progress soon and look forward to seeing this modern icon in action in TSW6." Let's now check-in with the developments from the TSG team, whilst we don't have any new information to share today, we'd like to remind you all on what they coming up!
I can say only one thing... FINALLY!!! Not only a Class 66 alternative for appropriate routes, but also a local legend in my area before GA replaced them with the 745s, and Freightliner still operate them today. I do wonder though why DB branding was chosen rather than Freightliner, considering the FL license is apparently now an option since Shap? Regardless I'm just happy to have this in the game. I also can't help but notice the specific wording. "This first Class 90 DLC will highlight its freight capabilities..." so I wonder if that is hinting at a future passenger pack. An Intercity branded WCML railtour perhaps, also featuring the Mk3 DVT? JustTrains have of course done most of the MK3A work already...
Never thought this day would come ever!! Absolute day one purchase from me.. the livery opportunity's aswell..
"This first Class 90 DLC will highlight its freight capabilities, ensuring you can run to time up and down the West Coast Main Line South (WCMLS) without interfering with higher-priority traffic." Hold on....the first?
So for us non-UK peeps, could this theoretically substitute for the 66 on any electrfiied line, or is it more specialized? In any case very exciting news!!!
It would also work with Mark Three coaching stock, albeit it was usual for consists to have a DVT (cab car) at the other end for push pull operation. Though technically could sub in for the 87 on WCMLoS in haul mode with a bit of licence and era jumping.
The wording suggests they have plans for other versions of it. I can certainly see a Intercity version with DVT and 1990s set timetable for one (or both) JT's WCML routes going down well.
OMG! A 90 is coming? Really!? Nice to see its DB Red dress (FL too, maybe... Plz...)... Would love seeing "her" in IC Swallow guise! Would make my day! Great news from AT towers!
Looks good, and could also (just about) fit within the timeframe on the Just Trains routes on fresh out of the works test runs if an original condition one is made at some point.
I can think of a potential route add-on for this: Edinburgh Crossrail & North Berwick. I've been making scenarios in Train Simulator Classic and am preparing a video about the 2004 EWS Class 90 pull push ScotRail services running between Haymarket and North Berwick. In my opinion the relatively short commuter journeys lend themselves nicely to the TSW audience, and the Class 158 can be made more colourful and can do journeys to Newcraighall and back. For freight interest we could get the Powderhall bin-liners in, although they would authentically require the Class 67 which would be another fun locomotive to have in the game. The turnaround at Slateford should be included too and the player can find out what happens if they reverse too far and de-wire. It'll probably never happen but you never know.
An absolute fan favourite, well played ATS! I wonder, as others have suggested, if this will go the way of the Rivet 170 pack with multiple iterations with different livery / scenario / era versions then? They’ve had parcel duties, express passenger careers and the aforementioned intermodal freight roles.. but what else have they done that could be packaged into a DLC?
I like the detailing in the cab, looks very nice. And a bit offtopic, I would like to see older cabs get such upgrades also, and you can sell them. (I'm sure the DTG heads love to hear that word )
The possibility of an East Anglian route creeps closer to becoming a reality. Excellent news that ATS are still making TSW content and also excellent news that it's a Class 90. Rather hoping the Intercity version, when it comes, means we'll have a retro WCML timetable or two. Still sad that the final locomotive hauled train on the GEML was during lockdown. I miss these old things, especially the loud expulsion of air from the brakes on the buffers at Liverpool Street.
We can only hope from this moment forwards, but surely they wouldn't bring a loco in just for freight?? Hopefully it means more
Similar to EMT branded 158s appearing on ECML which is long into the EMR rebranding, or white 375s being on SEHS despite being based on the 2019 timetable a whole year after the last refurbishments had taken place. As I've said before, a couple years either side is not that big of a deal if it gives us some more variety, and that said including a 1988 loco in a 1986 timetable is not a big deal to me.
Yes I read it but what does that mean concrete? If I buy this one, I have to buy an other one for the passenger version ? Would be sad
It sounds pretty "concrete" they were very specific with this "first Class 90 DLC" which all but says there will be a passenger one to follow. I think it's a great idea to start with a freight version, because we are all crying out for another freight loco and this would look handy on the North London line too, even if only in free roam.
My understanding is the JT routes are set between 1986 & 1987, so you could just about see 90(s) on the first few test runs before the year was out in 1987 (pretty limited scope though to be fair)
A little era shift would not hurt in this instance. Certainly sub for the 87’s if not the 86 and definitely on the freight jobs.
