Well to be fair they announced new titles in the run up to Direct, then it all went quiet.

Let’s just hope whichever of the above it happens to be, fares better than Catan, Fishing, Flight Sim World, the hastily abandoned sponsorship of City Tram Sim and even TSC now existing on life support.

I think the last thing TSW needs, is DTG focusing elsewhere. TSW is already as low as it can go in terms of optimisation, QA & bug fixing.

Then again maybe the best thing for all of us, is TSW finally crosses the line where sales drop & DTG’s hand is forced into actually paying attention to the state of the game.

I think DTG is also massively naive about their reputation, they’ll be in an uphill battle to launch a successful new IP.

I think people still don't realise that DTG have separate teams for different projects, so any other project has no bearing on the development of TSW.

Except... the teams for the titles I mentioned no longer seem to exist. The last remaining in house route builder for TSC was transferred across to TSW. The coding for TSW seems to be on a wing and a prayer, wouldn't surprise me if some even outsourced.

That's because those projects are dead. They will still have different teams for any new project. Well, they have in the past, let's say.

Outsourcing happens all the time in the industry.

More like stillborn, well apart from TSC.

My point being, I don’t put much stock in anything else DTG turn their hands to having any certainty of a future. Catan was launched amid huge fanfares but slipped off the flywheel almost straight away. The tram game was slightly different as DTG were publishers rather than developers, but when it became apparent the game wasn’t cutting it they couldn’t drop it fast enough, even instantly locking down the support forum.

I actually think City Transport Simulator was a decision by the developers.

It's actually become very good since they divorced DTG. And far more regular updates. I still don't play it much as I don't like fictional routes but credit to them, it's become a much better game than when DTG played a part in it.

My guess is that the Developers felt DTG were holding the game back.

The actual DTG titles apart from TSC, TSW though have fallen completely flat in my opinion. Even TSW VR (which is pretty awful in my opinion)

That's interesting about CTS. Might be worth a fresh look in a deep sale.

I'd forgotten about the VR game. Another huge fanfare release with high fives and silly headphones but suspect it was a huge flop with the 1990 Fisher Price graphics.

The CTS game was very well made imo and it seems to be getting regular updates.
I just noticed that the bus extension is coming soon to consoles too.
I hope they don’t abandon the game as they could always add route extensions to make the map even bigger, it all depends if people want it. Not everyone is into fictional routes though.

It didn't help that (I think it was) Matt who said the VR game was never about the graphics and about the immersion...but the bad graphics didn't help shift the game.

DTG have two new registered trademarks (as previously discussed on the forum). Heroes In Flames and Metro Rivals. That’s all we know. The new game will be one of them.

Makes we wonder what this new game could be maybe it might not even be train related or it could be a tycoon kinda like City Skylines, but it’s where you manage a train station or something like that but next Wednesday we will find out what the game is.

What if DTG is afraid TSW is tanking and are hedging their bets with a new game?
Or in any case, trying a different market.
As much as we love TSW, the customer base for TSW is relatively small and niche by industry standards.
Saying they can't do both is like saying a car company can't make a new model because it'll destroy the current model.

As much as I would like to see a golf or rally game I do have the feeling it’s going to be something goofy or oddball.

If it was going to be a TSW spin off, maybe multiplayer, transit or dedicated steam train game we would have had more of a hint during Direct.

Maybe a mobile or tablet game though there’s never been any indication DTG were bothered about this side of things before.

My educated guess is a simulation in UE5. Probably not trains but that metro rivals title was intriguing. A subway type game would make sense and be in direct competition to games like Subway Sim 2. We’ll see..

That sounds like a hybrid between Transport Fever and Train Station Renovator ngl (I think that's what it's called)

That’s actually a good guess, most people want TSW to be upgraded to UE5 and seeing as they can’t upgrade TSW to UE5 because it would require, remaking the game and we would lose all of our DLC. Making a new game with UE5 is the better option for them.

No, "everybody" doesn't. UE5 eats performance- if you think TSW runs poorly, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

Additionally, the transition would instantly render everyone's expensive DLC libraries unplayable. DTG in 2021 could afford to migrate the fairly limited quantity of DLC in existence from UE 4.23 to UE 4.26 without charge, but the remastering of over 100 DLCs for a completely new engine, for free, just isn't going to happen. If they rewrite it at all, it will have to be paid.

    UE5 is no magic bullet.

the best option with that seems to put it as the feature with something like TSW 7, 8, 9 etc (9 sounds quite crazy but it’s actually quite a bit longer to 2030 than TSW 9)

It’s not a short period of time but theirs only so long it cling to 4.26, been 4 years now.

I don’t think anyone wants a full rebuy and restart to fix issues, I imagine the abandonment of TSW to a newer version would cost the customer base heavily., not to mention theirs zero chance it’s bug free and no saying how better.

To be honest, I hardly doubt it. TSW has already been proven to be a fairly successful game and I don’t think Dovetail would give up their cash cow now for an unproven title.
Dovetail (and third parties) is/are continuously trying to push the game to new regions for more exposure. I’m sure they got some new players with the Netherlands route and they’ll get even more with the Japanese and Portuguese routes coming soon.

as I’m not privy or actively searched for the sales figures, it does leave me thinking is it out of the game expanding or out of the game “needing” to expand.

each version 2 3 4 5 now 6 leads to a spike in sales from a graph I once saw, but the spike not as high as the last if I recall it correctly (it was about 2 years ago when I saw that info)

I’m not an expert on game marketing but I believe it’s a little bit of both. Dovetail (as with every other company) loves money and the more exposure your game has to more regions/markets, makes it more likely your game will have more players and therefore more sales. But, I also believe Dovetail just want to expand to more regions because after all, it’s in the name of the game. Your game probably can’t be called “World” if you only create routes from the big 3 over and over. That being the U.S, UK, and Germany.

they did before however seem very determined about refraining from expanding away from the big 3 and equally agreed upon the “world” element near purely defining the ability to explore the route on foot or by train element.

guess it doesn’t give us enough info to determine any definitive answer i don't believe
