I've got another problem: I tried to run the train in free roam on GWR London - Reading. Running it electric works fine until the overhead lines disappear. So I tried to change the power mode to diesel: Stopped the train, set the brakes, set reverser to Neutral, lowered the pantograph, started the engine, started diesel, set the reverser on Forward, but the train won't run. I tried the same in the training center, it didn't work. Do I miss something important? Anybody got an idea?
The 802 seems to handle the power changeover automatically. You don't need to lower the panto or even put the reverser into neutral, just idle throttle and hit the AC or diesel power selection puttons and the train just takes care of the rest itself.
Also I think diesel mode is not working for the 10 car and 18 car variants at least when I tried to use on the ECML route in free roam.
I tested again the 802 (10 car variant) on SEHS route again from Faversham to St. Pancras and worked fine on both diesel and electric power
Nope, you just press the one button to select diesel power mode and the rest handles itself. You can even do this while moving with the throttle in full power the whole time, you only lose power for the few seconds between the panto lowering and the engines spinning up or vice versa. Here's an example I just recorded:
Is that method prototype correct for the 802. In TSW5 on the 801 you have to start the diesel engine and then drop the panto manually..
From what I know, it is prototypical for the 802s so that they can change power modes on the move, the same for the 800s. Hull Trains is well known for doing it on theirs on the way out from Doncaster, basically using the AC mode while it's there to accelerate quicker before then changing over. The reason the 801 doesn't have this automatic startup is because its engine is for emergency purposes only, so 99% of the time the train will already be stationary anyway so the automatic changeover isn't required.
