As long as you can disable the class 90 then fine. I wouldn't mind seeing a new timetable set in circa 1990 if we get a InterCity class 90. I don't like seeing the class 40 as they weren't around in 1986. I realise I am in the minority. I can switch the class 40 off in the Blackpool route but with Shap it disables a whole layer.
1988 was the first year of service for the Class 90, so it's possible. Hopefully, ATS can include the original livery.
Dead chuffed about this one and a deffo day 1 purchase. The WCMLS is getting some nice upgrades what with the Avanti 805 and now this. It really needs much more traffic. I often see 90’s hauling freight in pairs at Watford Jn. Now a freightliner Class 70 please!
But not for the same route, right? Because the Class 70 didn't come along until 20 years after the Just Trains routes.
Theoretically any modern electric route, but more common on some than others. Mostly container trains. Primary routes: WCML South, Crewe-Birmingham, Mildmay Secondary routes (fewer or shorter journeys): Suffragette, Manchester Airport Commuter, ECML Regular AI: SEHS, Cross-city, Glossop, More limited AI: Cathcart, Edinburgh-Glasgow, Fife Circle
No it's a more conventional power handle. Thyristor control I think it was called. It will be just 0-100%. I think they are quite quick off the mark so should be fun to drive.
The 90 would be a good start. Won't work on all routes, but it's some variety from the ubiquitous Class 66. Let's get this in game then worry about the 70. Baby steps.
A new 1990s timetable would be a good way to do things to add 90s to the JT routes without being inauthentic.
The 90 came out in 1987. That's not inauthentic at all since they are set in the late 1980s. Why add more work?
How much actually changed in 2 years? Like in 1989 the MK3 DVT existed and accompanying MK3As, A Class 90 and those in InterCity livery would be amazing for JTs routes. Plus then we'd only need a MK2 DBSO to be able to get an Anglia transitional period GEML. 90s, 86s, 150s, 170s, the only fully new thing we'd need would be a class 321 since only some modifications would need to be made to the 314s we already have to make a 315. (I guess the 360s too... oops this has kinda turned into an Anglian wishlist).
I agree with this - as I've said before, we get routes set in years, but they're meant to cover broad eras really: it's not like we get a version of the route for every year. You could quite easily put an early 90s timetable on any of the JT routes and it wouldn't look out of place, bar the odd poster etc. Also, the Warrington screenshot seemed to have the dark red border on the station sign, which was very much of the IC swallow era I think
First 90 rolled out of Crewe late 87 to test track, then Crew training 88 onwards, full acceptance for fleet in subsequent years. They are in IC Swallow for the IC versions. I personally feel they are out of place on the JT WCML and as such a 85 or 81 is the correct (missing) traction. I get why some may wish to see them on these routes but not for me. Never saw one the WCML in 87 iirc.
It’s something I’ve brought upto before, but devs really pigeon hole themselves with going for a specific year. In any case I don’t really see an issue with a 90 on JT’s routes, they’re already pretty fast & loose with rolling stock allocation.
I don't think routes are meant to represent a specific year, it just makes sense to use a particular year's timetable for a coherent service pattern. But that can usually represent a few years either side.
This would represent freight moves between the WCML and GEML if I'm not mistaken? I think the best we can hope for is that where routes are electrified, it seamlessly subs in with the Class 66 just like different loco classes do for German content. I assume this would have to be hand selected to some degree though considering that over half of the UK routes in the game with freight enabled don't have OHLE, and we wouldn't want a situation like when the 87 suddenly appeared on the ECW railtour.
You can have it. I wouldn't buy it for the JT routes that is all. No problem if it's layered in for those who want it..... Will leave it there can read the room on this one.
I was just rereading the roadmap article and from the wording I do wonder if an InterCity one is on the roadmap somewhere "This first Class 90 DLC will highlight its freight capabilities", definitely seems they will be selling more Class 90s in the future.
Funnily enough, on a dry rail, my experience was that they were a bit less quick off the mark than an 87. With a 90, even if the Driver put the power handle straight to full power (which it was possible to do) the control system brought the power in slightly more slowly than was possible with an 87 by keeping the amps at the top of the yellow zone. On overall running times the 90s benefited from being able to reduce and increase power much more quickly than an 87 once at speed - which reduced the speed lost at neutral sections particularly, and made them easier to handle on routes with multiple changes in line speed and gradient (i.e. much of the WCML) - but for pure acceleration in ideal conditions, the 87 had a slight edge. The 90 really came into its own in low rail adhesion, when the ability to adjust power quickly was particularly valuable.
