May I ask have you ever actually created anything with Unreal Engine? Do you have any experience with how the editor works? Or is it more like, “Well, I can handle TSC just fine, so UE should be no problem either”? Just to put things into perspective: most professionals working with TSW often need several years to find their way around UE, especially the customized version used for TSW. I'm not saying you can't do it, but unfortunately, we often see some truly bizarre ideas on these forums from people who clearly have no idea what they're talking about. That's why I'm asking have you ever made anything in UE?

The whole “I can do this” story often falls apart quickly when you really take a closer look, unfortunately. I understand why people on the forum aren’t too impressed with your attitude coming in right away with “I have a job opening” without showing anything you’re capable of. It’s honestly a very odd way to introduce yourself and make such a request. Usually, that kind of thing goes through a completely different route. But okay, I get it you’re underage and don’t have a company.

My advice: show us something first, and don’t come in acting like you’ve got it all figured out. Convince us with substance, not just a lot of talk with zero content.
This isn’t meant as an attack just a life tip ;)

    Hi Jesper,

Working on TSC for over three years did make me feel I was ready for UE, so I did have a look at the pc editor for TSW when it first came out. I have spent my time learning it, not necessarily making anything, just learning the way it works. I am starting a trial route this week (around 6 1/2 miles) to prepare for a bigger project. Dan of All Aboard Studios has been touch and given me a few recommendations so thanks to him.

So in short terms you did not have very much knowledge to build a train.... You have some knowledge about building a route :) I hope that you did not give up youre plan to create nice things but do it in private and stay away from this forums and spend the time to learn more and more. I wish you a lot of luck and with enough disciplines will get there ;) im looking forward to see something in the future!!!

This is awfully pointless. There are people creating things here, and threads from some of those people. He can find good advice and guidance here.

I think you might not fully understand the point... I'm trying to make it clear to him that he shouldn't be discouraged by everything that's being written. I found the reactions quite harsh, regardless of whether they're true or not. In general, I feel that people on this forum often respond with a bit too much passion and emotion, and there's not always enough consideration for what someone else thinks or feels. Especially when you know he's still very young. I think we sometimes forget that we all share a hobby. And yes, I'm probably guilty of that sometimes too, but if I know someone is that young, then no I don't do that.

I got in a bad habit a few years ago building routes for TSC and Trainz of loudly proclaiming on the forum what my next project was, only for it to expire after a couple of weeks due to distraction, disinterest or some technical issue. After a few of those (the ones that got away) I now keep schtum until something is fired up and ready to distribute.

DTG have been guilty of this themselves with the Class 104 DMU and to some extent the Tadami route. Excitedly announced on the basis of a few speculative images from the would be developer, only to founder into the nowhere. At best, potential users will be disappointed when the promised item fails to appear and you as a person or company will lose credibility over any future project you might announce. At worst, it might stop someone who actually has the resources and skills who were going to tackle that themselves, from doing so.

And to the OP, if you are attempting to build a new loco or MU for TSW have you considered the work that is actually required? Standards for TSW are far more exacting than any previous sim. In addition to the detailed exterior and interior, you’re going to need access to the cab to get full 360 degree imagery to set up the model. You’ll need authentic sound recordings to mix via the physics and Simugraph to accurately portray the audio in motion. You won’t get either of those without official permission from the operator to access the cab (train cabs these days are nearly as much an off limits location as an aircraft cockpit). Likewise a few recordings on a mobile phone from inside the saloon or illegally ripped from You Tube are not going to cut it in the audio department!

When I view your work on the TSC forum, I do not consider you to be a skilled route builder.

Just looking at your pictures in the TSC forum makes a few things clear.
Because what you show there is, in my opinion, something that someone just slapped together and doesn't really have good building skills.

And you've shown the pictures you posted there over and over again in your posts without really changing anything.

I can only say to people, take a look at his posts in TSC and his pictures of his track.

I see what you mean! Never one to stifle ambition, but there does seem a bit of a gulf between that and realistic achievement.

As I said earlier, for route building start modest with an upscaled model railway or similar.

And where is the OP going to find time to finish a TSC route even to freeware standards and produce a detailed train for TSW?

I guess a lesson on managing your own expectations, but some of the stuff in this thread really is unnecessary. I get there's a difference between being nice and being kind, but... after reading through this thead I just feel sad.

I have the same feelings... Full adults with such behavior to a child is not okay.

The fact that it’s full grown adults trying to demean and trash a young lad with a bit of ambition speaks volumes as to what kind of people they are.

I see, I did misunderstand. I also hope that he's not discouraged by the tone of some people's reactions, but I still disagree about staying off the forum, for the reason I gave above. Being able to go online and separate out the useful from the useless is an important skill.

I think of it like taking reservations. By announcing that someone's developing a route, you at least prevent accidental duplication of effort, where keeping silent could mean more than one party spending considerable time and effort on a route only to learn that someone else was also working on it and had finished it first.

Yeah okay, I meant more like stay away from forums where you make claims you can't back up. And try to work on your skills quietly. Of course, he's definitely welcome for other things. :)

I think it would be for the best if the mods locked this thread. Anson has wiped his original post, some lessons have hopefully been learned, and there's nothing more really to usefully add.
