I had the same issue, with my motherboard and CPU not meeting the specs for windows 11. I was lucky, all the motherboard needed was the bios updating. My processor a 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400F (2.50 GHz) didn't meet the specs. There are various ways to get around this issue. I looked on the internet and found a detailed way of upgrading to windows11 using my existing processor. All went smoothly and I have had windows 11 for the last 8 months or so without any issues. I am by no means a computer expert and it worked ok for me. I did a lot of backing up and did clone my C drive onto a spare SSD I had just in case things went wrong. Luckily all went ok. It saved me upgrading at the time. Your situation could well be different, and use the opportunity to upgrade your system whilst changing to windows 11. Keith
Just for clarity, The i5-12400 does meet the requirements, comfortably. So it must have been a Bios/MB issue. My own system is based around that CPU. Any Intel processor 8th gen or higher should be fine with Windows 11 If you have an older processor and are happy, just use Rufus.
Rufus is a tool for creating modified Windows Installations. There are various tutorials and youtube guides on how to create a customized Windows installation. Rufus then "creates" the media to install Windows from, normally a USB stick.
There are ways to install Windows 11 on an "unsupported" system. If you do want to upgrade.. you're on a dead platform now so you're also going to need new RAM. Why will you stick with Intel? AMD is providing some very compelling, one could say even better, options compared with Intel when it comes to gaming. Another option is to say screw Microsoft and install Linux on that system and keep playing TSC with your current hardware.
That would mean me being able to do the upgrade and I think it is beyond my capabilities I'm going to need a new MOBO as this is Socket 1150 from 10 years ago and more The RAM is DDR3 and not suitable so I new it would have to be upgraded I have no knowledge of how Linux works and how you do things on it And I'm too old to learn - I will be 70 in a few months
Why don't you use Rufus to install Windows 11? It's legal. Rufus bypasses the requirements of Windows 11.
Rufus or manual registry changes can allow installation of Windows 11 on unsupported hardware and allow a computer to continue in use instead of becoming unnecessary waste. Unfortunately you might still get caught out by Microsoft's obnoxiousness in that they have already hinted that they might block updates installing on hardware not supported by Windows 11 in the future. I would say for now that it is best to stay on Windows 10 which will actually be supported with security fixes until October next year, and then do the unsupported Windows 11 upgrade if desired. The option of Linux is obviously a very good choice to keep a good computer running Train Simulator Classic, however I couldn't get Train Sim World 5 working on Proton which might affect some of us. My plan is to get the most use out of ESU and take advantage of components available next September so that the new computer will last as long as possible. I will ultimately ensure that my current workstation gets a new home with an OEM Linux install as it is outrageous that perfectly useful computers are being condemned as waste. Another happy Linux user prevents the sale of a Microsoft preinstalled computer reducing consumer demand for eWaste.
Sorry yes I was updating both my PC and my sons at the same time. One was the motherboard bios, the other was the unsupported CPU. Keith
I have no knowledge of Rufus, how it works etc. And I read somewhere, I don't know if it is true, that using such methods puts W11 on the Computer but security updates don't work. Except you have to make a one off payment for the security updates and I'm in the same position in a year No good to me as I need to upgrade my computer as the MOBO is out of date. And I have no idea if I can put other Windows programs on a Linux machine including things like Word and Excel and other programs I use for my Pictures At the end of the day I want a computer that does not have to use alternative methods to get it to work, that has up to date Processor and an M2 Memory SSD. The Processor in my current machine is 4th Gen so even getting W 11 on would not help it work quickly. And I'm 70 is two months so doing all this workaround stuff is too complicated for me.
True you'd be in same position in 12 months but for users in the UK and EU the 12 months worth of security updates are now free. I subscribed for them a week ago and it cost me nothing and neither did I have to back up my data to Microsoft.
No one seems to have given you specs for what is needed to run TS + probably other games etc 'out of the box'. From experience (I upgraded this morning), W11 is a very hungry operating system that my PC, although meeting the specs for upgrade, turned from a super smooth system into a stuttering mess that struggled to even open Chrome. Luckily I could roll back to W10 and will stay there for now. It seems W11 needs a high spec PC to run almost anything.
Wonder what issue you ran into. Out of curiosity I installed TSW 5 again and it runs just fine on my system with the default Proton Experimental. Also I don't see much reports on ProtonDB about problems with TSW 5
I was using official Proton but it looks like GE-Proton is the way to go. I’ll have to give this a go: the prospect of getting rid of that horrible OS from my workstation is very appealing.

My system is 5 years old. Intel i5 10600K CPU, Asus TUF Gaming Z490 - Plus (Wi Fi) motherboard, an Asus RTX Nvidia 3060TI graphics card, 16GB of RAM running Windows 11. I purchased the graphics card new about 2 years ago. I run TSC with all the graphics settings on maximum. I get FPS anything from about 30 to well over 60 depending on what route I'm running. I started on Windows 10 and upgraded to Windows 11 when it first came out, and have had no issues. The only thing I had to do was turn TPM on in the BIOS for Windows 11 to work. TPM is a requirement to run Windows 11. Any computer you buy today has TPM. Just another thing to consider is upgrading your monitor to something that allows you to increase your refresh rate from the standard 60 Hz to something like 180 Hz, probably a gaming monitor. Hi Trev What SSAA are you running, I wouldnt be able to use 3x3 but I do have a higher resolution monitor so that might affect it
I will choose 1440P or 4K over 1080P any day of the week. Higher resolution actually make a difference when it comes to graphics. But you seem to post the same thing in multiple topics which makes me think you just need purchase confirmation.
Yeah I can do 2x3 but with my resolution (3440x1440) 3x3 just bogs down in too many places for me to be happy with it. I am happy enough with 2x3. I think in general the higher spec monitor you have the better it looks but refresh rate is not necessarily the be all and end all, I would sacrifice (some) refresh rate for GSYNC or similar.
I have the same issue, though have postponed things for 12 months by managing to sign up for the Windows 10 Extended Security offer. Got it free, too. I did get Windows 11 running a couple of times using Rufus but it was very sluggish and no guarantee MS servers won’t detect the workaround and not deliver any updates, so reverted back to 10. My old potato is an I7 4770 with 24Gb of RAM and a GTX 1650 4Gb GPU. Daft thing is it runs most games I play quite well, apart from TSW (but that’s DTG lousy optimisation and core programming) so have to run in 1440p, similar with Farm Sim 25. But most everything else runs steadily in 4K so I’m really loathe to spend >£1200 on a new box just to accommodate MS and get slightly better performance from TSW. If I was going for a new box, for that sort of price I’d probably look at a mid range I5 CPU, maybe the new RTX 5050 GPU, 32Gb of RAM and a load more HD space than I currently have, preferably on SSD at least for the C drive. Oh and a decent PSU. I could just drop a RTX3050 and another HD in my current PC and continue to make do, but that would be pushing the limits of my 450w PSU. But I do like my old box, lots of space for drives, slot for a DVD-ROM. Many of the newer cases seem to have very little of that.
