The thing is, they do not need to release a new UE5 TSW and effectively abandon the existing DLC. They will be migrating chunks of the main game to the UE5 engine, yes, but it wouldn't be an entirely different game underneath. It isn't an entirely different engine. Of course what they would need to do is also migrate the existing DLC, and there is a lot ot it. But it's absolutely possible if they throw the resources at it, and maybe that is a time for outsourcing such a task. Invest money and outsource the DLC migration for a short-term financial impact but a long-term happy player base, without asking them to pay for the same routes all over again. Because I certainly wouldn't; I'd simply stick with what I have now and not bother with any new version.
TSW and UE5 is sooner or later available, they have the time to learn the Engine and to make the old content available then
I hope this new game doesn't compromise the development in TSW. There are enough bugs in TSW as is, and I can't imagine developing another game alongside would help in any way.
I think we all know they would come up with a excuse not to include the older tsw 2020 to tsw2 routes despite them being required for a lot of the br era layers
This is wrong on so many levels... I don't think "train" and "racing" should be used in the same sentence. I think it's slimy to advertise your new game to this player base, considering how many bugs are still not fixed, nor will they ever be fixed... And saying it will have no impact because it's different people doing it: that is being contradicted right in this thread, where I see TSW Support personnel talking about the new game. Shaking my head in disbelief...
I'm looking forward to the years of [EDIT - Jan - Language] about it on this forum, while the world continues to turn.
People are going crazy for Denshattack, there has been a lot of mainstream hype and promotion everywhere, especially on Steam. DTG are doing the bare minimum when it comes to promotion as usual, so It will probably die the same way that TSW VR thing did.
TBF Denshattack was announced quite a while back I think, while Metro Rivals was the first reveal yesterday (Steam leaks notwithstanding)
[Grumpy old man] This is a TSW discussion forum. This thread has nothing to do with TSW. It should be moved to Off Topic or, preferably as it is a new game from DTG, given its own forum. [\Grumpy old man]
How many videos did DTG release for the VR thing though? They didn't exactly blow the marketing budget, and I'm guessing this will be about the same. The regular Forza kiddies this game is aimed at don't watch the DTG shopping channel *cough* I mean "DTG live streams" *cough* so they probably won't notice this thing exists.
I feel like this is not a good idea. Not many people play simulators, let alone a Train Simulators. Anyone that does plays it for the realism or relaxation aspect of trains. Combining a racing game (similar to a car's) with trains!??!?! Who is their target market? I can't see enough players being interested in this concept for it to be financially successful. Taking away the realism and trains being something a lot less people are interested in than cars is a very risky decision.
Devil's advocate, the VR thing didn't look good (in my opinion) and was dev'd by an outside company. Added to that, VR is still niche anyway. Difference here is its launching on 3 platforms, has crossplay, and is being dev'd inhouse. While I wouldn't expect media saturation, I would expect it to get significantly more exposure than the VR wotsit
Well, if you see the light within the first two hours of gameplay, Steam and XBOX give refunds now. Sony will just tell you to **** off if you ask for a refund though, so avoid the PS5 version.
This will flop as hard as that VR thing they did, never mind the board game. DTGs only customer base exists because they have the market of train simulation cornered off, trying to introduce more casual titles whilst leaving past products behind with a reputation for slimy publishing & shovelware approach to game development, is frankly nothing but an exercise in pissing money away. They couldn’t even keep TTE supported and grown as a project & that was actually integrated into one of only 2 currently successful IP’s DTG has. But yeah, agree with the above comment, advertising their new games into TSW’s community is just…ew. We’ve got a backlog of broken content, new content being released way too early & a clear lack of development resource already.
I'll be buying it, it's different and goes against nearly everything people want or expect, for that fact alone I love it..... The thought of the pitchfork brigade spitting out the earl grey in sheer horror is just so beautiful, I wish it would be released tomorrow......
Yes that's it! I watched the trailer for it and forgot it hadn't actually come out yet- honestly the zanier/cartoon styling works a bit better for me for this type of game- it feels kinda weird driving realistic trains in that way imo, but guess we'll have to see how it actually plays.
Come on guys and gals the real news here is that a UE5 train sim is going to happen (or perhaps is already in development)! What do we want to see? What DON'T we want to see? Launch route predictions? Clearly they think the UE5 lighting improvements will make doing underground stations and tunnels significantly easier, so i think they go all-in on that for the initial routes: An NYC subway route A London Underground route Something like Hamburg or Berlin U-bahn I'm here for it!
I think there's room for both. If DTG can nail the arcade side of it (I mean, subway trains running tilted on 2 wheels (figuratively) is hardly the height of realism, but certainly would fit a chaotic racing game) then I think it could be a decent rival to Denshattack, even if the setting is a little different
Hey folks, as mentioned in the announcement section, we have a dedicated spotlight video that goes into A LOT of detail and will answer many of your potential questions. All the best, Jan
what I don't want is to have to re-buy all the dlcs again, if that's the price for unreal engine 5 (which is nothing special and also won't solve TSW chronic problems) I'll pass...
Metro Rivals is the first time in a while DTG can get me interested in a product again. It already looks way better than TSW so I only fear they are going to rush it again. I don't think DTG should be in any way ashamed of thinking this direction. I'm all in for fun with trains.
Well, UE4 content isn't compatible with UE5, and we all had to rebuy everything when going from TSC to TSW. DTG are not famous for giving free or discounted upgrades for existing owners. Developers / publishers like Milestone also create a load of shovelware games on the side, but the difference is that they have the yearly MotoGP licenced games to fall back on. DTG doesn't seem interested in making licensed games, and instead relies on a loyal (gullible) fanbase to bail them out with DLC sales when their shovelware products fail.
To be honest, this doesn't really interest me. Perhaps this will be for someone who wants a more casual fun experience. For those who may want a more metro sim based game, Subway Sim 2 exists
And such a key moment for DTG, the new game isn't even getting its own separate forum area. See Jan's response to my post re that in the Suggestions forum.
I actually dig this concept, not gonna lie. Like what I am seeing so far, hopefully it turns out to be good.
I does look really nice. unfortunately i have outgrown the 'faster competitive' gaming and am not really interested in this game. It is a good thing that DTG is working with UE5 though. If i were 10 years younger, i'd buy it
Pay close attention to the track draw distance during gameplay. UE5 game, but same draw distance issues as TSW in UE4... They are literally putting lipstick on a pig with this thing.
That’s just you all over though. You moan about others being spiteful. You are just at the opposite end. You enjoy being spiteful in the faces of other players, deliberately going against the grain and being antagonistic. That alone shows your true character. Anyway it makes me happy knowing you will toss money away on this muck.
I was watching the interview that was posted today about the game and i'm quite concerned because it sounds like they are using Metro Rivals as a testing ground for a future train simulator built in UE5.....so does that mean TSW is dying? We keep getting told that TSW content won't ever be remade in UE5 so is this a fresh start, no more support for TSW after a few years once this new sim is done? Because at the moment most of the content for TSW on the roadmap is third party so i'm sensing something is off here and that DTG are focused on this next-generation sim and we don't know yet how that will affect our collections.
DTG probably saw what Bethesda did with the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remaster, slapping UE5 on top of the original game engine. Don't be surprised if they try to shoehorn TSW UE4 content into a new UE5 game, and make the thing more broken than it already is...
Not my cup of tea, although it's probably aimed at a younger audience. I wish them the best though, and if it does well for DTG perhaps some of that extra revenue might be put back into TSW?
ngl I hope they don't move TSW into UE5 (or make a succesor), thus leaving evrything behind, as much as TSW has issues, the prospect of leaving it all behind thus ditching all the layering opportunities behind doesn't sit well with me since you'll end up with less complete experiences overall
As usual you completely misunderstand. Especially after watching the video clip I have absolutely no time for this crud. I just don't want discussion of it coming into the TSW (or TSC) forum areas and that includes Off Topic. Let alone starting a thread about it. And Off Topic is to discuss other games or life in general issues, it should not be where other titles in DTG's portfolio should be discussed, because the CM's CBA to spend five minutes setting up a sub for it. It needs its own distinct forum area like Catan or Fishing or the VR game.
See I don't think the next sim would be called Train Sim World because they keep saying it won't be in UE5, It will never have multiplayer and the only conclusion that makes sense to me is an entirely new game separate from TSW altogether like from TSC to TSW
Unreal is a highly overrated game engine. Epic's main business is providing sparkling videos of what the Unreal Engine is capable of. Unfortunately, everything then has to be scaled back quite a bit. With Unreal 5, Epic accuses developers of not knowing how to program properly. Developers accuse Epic of providing a game engine that's difficult to optimize. The big problem is that developers are forced to adapt their products to low-quality peripherals and, therefore, have to make compromises. Currently, the problem seems to be the PS4. Naturally, the problem will arise again in some time with the PS5. Imagine if DTG or other developers would produce a game exclusively for high-end PCs (priced at 5 or 6,000 euros) or the PS6 (which will be born as always already old)... Rockstar is already in deep trouble with GTA 6 for the PS5. The funny thing is that in the new game's presentation video, the DTG members seemed to be absolutely blown away by UE5. Where have they been living so far? I mean, it's not like Nanite etc were released the day before yesterday... And not even the UE5 problems were discovered the day before yesterday...
Funniest post I've read in some time, that piece of literacy poetry was awesome, top banana. Also so glad you're be happy knowing that I'll be spending my money on what ever I want and not giving 2 penguins LOVE-slapping each other in the face till their black and blue. It's such a great time to be alive....... Just remember to swallow the earl grey, that stuff ain't cheap......
I don't think the majority of people care what you choose to spend your own money on... If you want to buy a pink fluffy elephant, go for it, it's yours to do as you wish. I think they object to the 'cut your nose to spite your face' attitude being constantly waved in their face and always being a contrarian for the sake of it. I don't think it is getting the reaction you believe you're getting.
Funny thing is I'm not trying to get any reaction from anyone because I really don't care what they think, it doesn't affect my life in any shape or form. I'm just being me, I'm not on this planet or forum to be liked, loved or hated, I'm here to be a authentic true me. If folks don't like that, well that's their problem to deal with, not mine......
I was unaware Denshattack was even a thing, but seeing that holy hell, that's such a better reveal trailer! Like, I actually get a sense of what the game's actually going to be like! Should be the bare minimum mind you, but unfortunately surprising uncommon for reveal trailers. And it does look incredibly stylish, reminds me of Hi-Fi Rush. or Wind Waker even, it's over the top and weird, but then I love over the top and weird in most of my games. Importantly that styling I think does a much better job at separating itself from a typical train sim and catching people's attention. Sleeping on it overnight I feel like a lot of people are just going to think Metro Rival's just a train sim at a glance. Also worth noting, these hyper stylized visuals always age extremely gracefully, anyone familiar with Okami or the aforementioned Wind Waker will know what I'm talking about. Visuals today may not age as much, but I mean, look at those awful human models for example. those already look terrible even in current day. One of the top comments I saw in one of the uploads even pointing that out. That to me is actually quite concerning, it means they're actually crazy enough to try and hit the reset button. IMO the smart play would be to just let TSW run its course, I'm just saying, ETS2 and the old outdated engine it has made it 12 years thus far and still has years of life left in it. And frankly it's probably a better game than 99% of games with "better" tech powering it (It can run on a potato and still look and run well for starters). Meanwhile stuff like Cities Skylines and Kerbal which have tried to pull this stunt off have failed pretty hard, latter of which likely never going to be able to succeed its successor. And those were made by much bigger companies that could and should've been able to pull it off. How'd DTG expected to pull off this when bloody Rockstar and its infinite resources couldn't? Only reason they even pulled off the prior reset was because they could appeal to consoles. Everything that's been said prior has made it clear TSW would've bombed too if it couldn't expand its reach. I don't see how "Train Sim Universe" or whatever is going to cope with a likely similar size player-base while also likely having to expand development time and budgets. There's room for a game like, just like how there was still room for a solid X-Plane competitor. However just like how Flight Sim World failed to be that I don't think DTG are the right people to tackle it.
