It should very well known that TSW’s user interface is not exactly very user-friendly but...

Is anyone else finding that, particularly with a controller, it’s extremely easy to restart a service by accident? Once I hit pause, set my controller down, and go on about my business, I return to either the loading screen or the freaking ‘Get Started’ screen ready to restart the service I’ve spent well over an hour on.

I miss when the pause button went to the ‘Overview’ tab not the ‘Options’ tab. This would not be an issue then.

It doesn’t break the game or anything just a UI nightmare for me personally!

You could leave the game running and then have a more realistic uk experience with 5 hours of delays

    Just how?,

anyways here’s a tip just put yourself in photo mode by pressing both sticks and boom you don’t accidentally mess up

ps don’t do it on some scenarios like through the fire and flames since it will break

it’s fairly easy for me actually… happens more often than not.

I appreciate the suggestion but entering and exiting photo mode resets fog settings, which I rely on heavily to hide the atrocious render distance on PS5. Though I suppose it’ll do until whoever is designing the interface for Train Sim World gets a grip. Thanks.

To be frank, I don’t think it’s the wisest decision for the pause screen to go directly to the restart button. It made sense to me to have gradient info, upcoming speed limits, train info, and the ‘I’m Stuck’ button (which I’d argue is more useful to most players than the restart button) to all be available at a glance when I pause the freaking game. Why would I need to restart my game every time I pause it?

From what I can remember, from the pause screen just press circle on the PS controller and your straight back to the game, no other buttons required.....

Appreciate that but what does it have to do with anything I mentioned?

From the pause screen hit circle button and it will take you straight back to the action in game, that way you don't hit restart and have to do everything over again......

When pausing, hit save at the same time. Not perfect but better than the alternative.

Never had the issue myself, I just pause the game and when play further I hit the the back button (red B on Xbox). I even don't have to think about this, so don't get it why you restart.

You’ve misunderstood me. The issue isn’t getting back into the game after I pause. It’s accidental button presses. I’d rather accidentally reset the physics of my train than reset the entire service. Switching the “pause screen” from the overview tab to the options tab was a mistake. No advantage whatsoever.

They certainly need to move the ‘Load Save’ icon from being the first thing you land on when starting the game. The amount of times I’ve mistakenly gone straight into a previous journey is crazy.

Respectfully, why did you even bother to leave a reply? There’s nothing constructive or helpful about that at all… I’m looking for suggestions or workarounds, not someone telling me how much of a non-issue it is for them. I get it’s a niche problem and I’m obviously not the average TSW player but this literally doesn’t help at all…

It probably says a LOT about general expectations about why someone is likely to bring up the menu in TSW that they decided to make this the default go-to, frankly.

Yes I’ve noticed that too, it’s possibly one of the worst decisions they could’ve made in regards to TSW 6’s Home Screen.

Again, not a big deal but I’d suggest having the ‘To The Trains’ icon be the one to the far left i.e. the one that most people accidentally hit.

Yes, I’ve considered that as well. Which is how I came to the conclusion that I am not the average Train Sim World player… lol. I try pause as little as possible because of realism and immersion but when I do, thanks to this new change, I more often than not restart my service by accident.

Perhaps most players pause the game specifically to restart it after they’ve messed something up. But as far as I’m concerned, TSW is still firmly a simulator albeit with some arcade-y elements. And all the information you get at a quick glance on the overview screen is far more important to me than having the ease of restarting. It’s a simulator first, game second IMO and every change DTG makes (significant or not) should reflect that.

Out of curiosity though, how do you feel about the change? Does it even matter to you?

I never found the screen that useful for the info it provided. I prefer to go off what's available within the game world.
Usually if I pause, it's one of two reasons - either I want to bring up the menu to do something, either adjust a setting, or yes, sometimes restart because of a bug, or it's because the doorbell just rang.

I absolutely disapprove of DTG's decisions of which options default to though. It's too easy to do an accidental restart, and on the main menu, just spamming the button to skip the splash screens as everyone naturally does on games, means accidentally loading into the last save. I would pick "To the trains" as the default if I were designing the main menu.

Because people do not understand why this is an issue for you, as it's just a matter of pause the game and then hit the back button to continue. Krustynuggets already mentioned the right back button for Playstation I saw.

So why I react was because of the fact I don't understand the issue and why you restart a service, so I was trying to understand the issue and explained how I do it. But as my post is not helpfull or constructive and you even ask me why I respond, good luck with restarting your services everytime, I wish you will do it many more times!

Further to that, I was one of the ones who advocated for easier access to the menu via the pause screen in the first place, Rush hour was indisputably the absolute Nadir of user experience on that front with its convoluted "pause and then hold this button" system.

Yes and no! TSW goes through periods where it is not reliable and it keeps crashing, so to have the save menu to hand as soon as you hit pause is a must. I have hit the restart button loads of times, but it comes up with a menu prompt asking "do you want to restart?" So you have to click on restart to bring up the "do you want to restart?" and then confirm with X, so restart is a 2 stage process, so not sure how you are managing to get past both?

Similarly, on starting the game when it says press any button, you have to be careful not to press X as an accidental double tap will reload your previous save which is annoying.
The game should open on the middle menu selection of choose a route or whatever it is.

    Why did they change that????

The only screen ith actual info on it is now hidden 4 tabs away.

    Just terrible imo

To make up for the bad design and the change that should never have been made (so many button pushes to get to the overview screen now) I always immediately move the selection away from the Restart field to Save or Settings as soon as I pause so an accidental button press doesn’t restart the service. I think there’s a confirmation popup but that’s just as easily accidentally confirmed.

It’s like how I always use the right button on the d-pad for the ‘press any key’ startup screens in order to not press one too many times on the X button and be plunged into continuing the Journey Mode I abandoned well over 18 months ago and instead have that extra press on the right button take me to the ‘To the trains’ field I need. Clever me.

On Xbox Series X it defaults to Overview, at least during a Scenario anyway.

If you don’t understand then kindly don’t waste either your or my time with whatever you thought you wrote. It didn’t help me and it didn’t help you. Also that last bit wasn’t necessary to say in the slightest. But I suppose you’re just one of the many bored weirdos who abuse these forums for personal amusement.

Not sure what to tell you there. I’d argue perhaps my controller has sensitive buttons but it’s happened on both my controllers. I guess it could be avoided by simply paying more attention to where I sit it. I was gonna argue that there should be a prompt that comes up when you want to restart but it seems my controller doesn’t care either way. I did think more people would understand that having the pause screen default to the another tab was a useless and unnecessary change.

Yes that is understandable. But my point is that having the screen change does more harm than good for people like me, which I will acknowledge probably isn’t a large amount. I can only get so much information from the in-game world. I can’t look at my train and tell exactly how long it is in meters and how much it weighs in kilograms. That’s highly useful information for me that used to be available at a glance that I now have to search for.

Like I said though, not a big deal. Just thought it was worth the discussion.

I honestly think that info should be a simple overlay in the corner of the map screen.

The ideal map should also contain stuff such as speed limits for each section.

Could not agree more. If my memory is correct, Matt and the team were thinking of doing a lot more with the map. The menu is getting a bit cluttered anyway with so many different tabs. Freeing up that space while simultaneously bolstering the game map with it is a brilliant idea and I think it’s worth exploring.
