As the expected fallout continues I think its become clear that DTG know they have you. This is why every release comes with a slew of issues to pile onto the already existing issues. Its absolutely not a mistake, its not sloppy. You don't continually make such errors through sloppiness. Its like when people criticise governmental policies as being stupid constantly. No its deliberate, its a play and they want to do it. In DTG's case they know they have the market and they know the community want a train fix they cant get anywhere else. So they release things unfinished, rushed and broken, and maybe they will do a bit here and there later, but in most cases they are used to the fact that by the time the next piece of content rolls around everyone is excited enough that they forget the prior issues and dive back in. Then the cycle repeats. They are happy to take a few bumps and ride out the storm. Hers a list of DLC that has gone through the mill, and this is just in the past year or so: Euston - MK - Poor timetable, performance, unfinished. Frank S Bahn - Cut timetables and content Frank - Fulda - Performance, crashing Bir - Crewe - wrong builds, performance Mitten Wald - Performance, crashing (I still cant complete a full run on xbox to this day!) Those are just off the top of my head, there's so much more. Then you have the core issues which remain unfixed to this day. Since TSW5 blurred textures have been introduced with no fix in sight. Obviously this effects consoles and was first experienced on newer routes but has since spread to older routes. Then there's passengers, shadow pop in, stutters etc. That is not acceptable. These memory and optimization fixes should have taken priority, instead we get a new version of the same game, and a new announcement of a new game. The only way we get meaningful change is for people to vote with their wallets. Some have decided enough is enough but some continue to purchase regardless. And its a tough situation. Pc players are more than likely to purchases because they have ways of getting around the problem for the most part, as a lot of the modding community pour their dedication and love into fixing things as much as possible, so you cant exactly blame them (for the record I'm on both platforms but prefer relaxing couch play). Console players are stuck because there's nothing else out there like this game and no modding support. So unless people make a stand this is just going to continue. I've worked in IT software as a User Experience Designer now for about a decade. If a company can get away with not spending to fix, they will do so, regardless of how much feedback they get, how much research is done, how many issues are documented. It just doesn't matter. Its only when they start losing customers do they decide they need to do something about it. So the reality is we are stuck with this unless either people abstain or DTG decide they are building a new game in a new engine in which case it wont matter anyway. Its a pretty sad state of affairs for a simulation that is really enjoyable for the most part but just lacks care and consideration for the product and for the people spending their hard earned cash in a climate where money is pretty scarce.
Bham to Crewe don’t forget the incomplete and inconsistent timetable and AI SPADs. But as you say, sadly people still keep buying this junk. On one of the TSW FB groups people are crowing about how good the AABS route. On Steam last night there were three reviews, all positive but at least two then listed all the problem. I fear many people have got into a state of Stockholm Syndrome over TSW, instead of sitting back dispassionately as I’m now doing and not just blindly chucking £30 after £30 onto borked content on a botched core. Might even apply that mantra to the JT route, even though it’s one I really want. I also think TSW has gotten so big, it’s moving beyond the grasp of DTG to ever refocus and get to grips with the game. Even worse now they have the Metro Rivals distraction.
One thing I will say is I don’t get the Mittenwaldbahn problem, like what are you using a Xbox one?, I’ve managed to do quite a lot full runs on the series X still yet to more than average crashes (normally one a month), even on release I didn’t have the problem but maybe you can share bit more
Are they not important? Is this product not sold on that system? Also PS5 users have reported issues. If you want to go down the route of blaming consoles then fine, but then it shouldn't be released for sale on those platforms if those platforms cant handle it (personally I think they can its just poorly optimised). But then if they did that you wouldn't have a version on PC either as I'm guessing the market share for consoles props up a heck of a lot of its development.
Not to throw hate on Xbox, but it is truly is the worse place to play TSW going by the feedback. I’m glad I switched to PlayStation during the TSW2 era. That’s not to say PlayStation is perfect either, but a hell of a lot better then it’s rival console.
Just the z-fighting/display flickering issues that have plagued Xbox for years now should be enough to pause release of new DLC's and focus on fixing that first. We have heard Matt tell us multiple times over the years that it was being looked into, but dificcult because of blah.
COULDN'T AGREE MORE. I'm thinking of going back to TSW4. Luckily I don't have much TSW5 or TSW6 content. We shouldn't be waiting this long for a fix for blurry textures. Until it's fixed it's not worth investing in any more routes.
Unfortunately I am fairly certain that ECML on TSW4 was one of the first routes to begin experiencing blurry textures... It's a core issue that's been going on for sometime now, and is only getting worse. I've said it once and I'll say it again, DTG like to make a lot of noise about fixing these issues but I feel at the moment it is just making the right noises to cool the resentful feelings of players, but not actually putting anything of substance together to fix blurry textures and any other ongoing core issues. All I've really heard for the last two years is "it's being looked into", but years later the blurry textures are getting worse and worse with every route and new edition of the game. I don't blame the third party developers now, I hold DTG solely responsible for this shambles and the continuation of core issues problems. There seems to be a team dedicated to putting together a new kids game in UE5, but not the same amount resources thrown into resolving the issues currently being experienced in TSW.
I couldn't agree more with this thread. It's a shame that a game that is pretty relaxing has all of these problems. I found a review/song that basically sums up my feelings for the problems that continue to plague the game. As it stands, I won't be rushing to buy any DLC anytime soon.
Yeah it’s just diabolical really if you invest in that eco-system. I don’t know if it’s true or 100% accurate, but Matt did say it’s the Xbox hardware that is the problem in a previous stream. Not that it’s underpowered as such, but more to do with the fundamentals and engineering side of the console, how it handles set tasks etc. The 10th gen console couldn’t arrive quick enough.
I'm fortunate to own all three platforms, Ps5, XBOX X and PC but i don't own it on PS5. I believe its superior in some regards to Xbox but worse in others. Xbox is fine mostly, well it was until a lot of these issues reared its head. Shadow pop in has always been an issue on each platform and can only be fixed really by the excellent lighting mod by Jetwash.
If I recall correctly it started withe the release of TSW5.On both the UK and German routes. I remember realy liking the Fulda route in the early access days (without layers). And then at release date running it with all layers and be greated by blurry textures and crashes. On Series X.
Which is (at least for the Z-fighting) total @#% ofcourse. As the Xbox consoles are perfectly fine for paying many UE4 titles. And (all be it on an other engine) running simulations of displays in MS FlightSimulator 2020.
When the 'enough is enough' thread started I was still in the camp of 'yeah, the game has issues, but it's still really good', but I, like many on here it seems, have reached my breaking point. The game just gets worse with every release and DTG, while great at the public facing caring faces, clearly don't intend making anything better. Over 100 DLCs later and I've not spent a penny on TSW6, I got the platinum via the free version, then went back to playing TSW4 where stuff actually works.
I made a thread yesterday where I explain my thoughts about the current tsw situation more throughly if you are interested in reading it https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/this-song-kinda-sums-up-my-thoughts-on-tsw6.94827/
I agree this game won’t ever be ‘fixed’. This texture issue is never going away on gen9 systems. People seem to have already forgotten about the Mildmay release which had the same problem & it’s still there today. The exact same thing was being said from DTG too “we’re looking into what’s happened with the console builds”. Both DTG & the wider community behind TSW though only want more content, even with Mildmay being a mushy 480p mess, people were just crying for an extension. Honestly I think the TSW userbase gets exactly the sort of content it deserves - rushed & never ending releases. We keep buying the stuff, seeing the same issues & mistakes made, make an angry thread about it, then go to another thread asking for more content, then buy the next thing. I’m guilty of it too, I genuinely regret buying TSW6 after seeing the last patch for it just borked so much on Riviera, then AAS’ has really sealed the deal for me on rather nauseating regretfulness. Ultimately I think this newest route will be the first domino that falls in terms of console sales decline. The texture issue has become so widespread now, along with the axing of console previews from ambassadors & as TSW seems to grow its playerbase, more & more people will begin to see that the way DTG handle game development is not normal, even by today’s standards.
Im on xbox the majority of routes i havent had issues with Riviera line ive had no issues at all it runs smoothly Birmingham to Crewe ive had some stuttering and blurry textures it hasnt crashed once but its understandable people are annoyed when the same issues crop up and are left
Actually, reported way back in TSW2 on various routes: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/texture-glitch.43753/ This particular response a couple of years ago is holding up well:
Have you got all the layers for routes? because if you drive Frankfurt Fulda, new Aachen timetable and a few others you are guaranteed blurry textures and possible crashes.
Are you simple? I wasnt throwing shade at xbox users, more pointing out the fact they seem to be the ones suffering the most with issues constantly. Climb off your soapbox
Ah, so even worse. I remember it happening in TSW2 once in a while for a couple of seconds. On TSW5 it would happen on every run and never recover. I probably did not own all layers yet when playing TSW2, making it less of an issue for me personally.
Simple? This is what you wrote "Strange how most complaints come from xbox users. Just saying" That's easily interpreted as the xbox console being the problem which to be honest a lot of people throw about in here.
Simple. As in naive. Youre only interpreting it that way. It is strange most complaints come from xbox. As i stated, they have the most issues it seems. Im guessing you play xbox
You missed off Riveria line with still broken 801 engines plus missing Xbox patch from couple weekends ago Jamie was looking into
It really is a sad state of affairs that DTG introduce a new edition with the same faults as the previous version. Please DTG now get TSW6 working perfectly and when it is, let’s just run with it, without introducing TSW 7 next year, which will also have loads of faults. I want and feel that the whole community also want to play the game without faults and errors which is frustrating for everyone.
Heavily neglected side of the game, the game has always favoured PC, easy to see when you see the UI is designed for PC to the point you can’t do certain things without a keyboard and mouse. Edit: another example would be to have a look at the issues report section of the forum, the forum being something more accessible to a PC than a console one, yet a higher proportion of Xbox tags and no noticeable reduction of PC to PS if anyone isn’t happy with the current way the game is being handled to the point they don’t want to buy into it, don’t, cause it’s not likely at all to change for the better, expect routes to be released bugged and TSW7 announced in late August 2026 edit 2: interesting filter this forums has I just saw, I typed the above paragraph as “bugged to cr*p before filtering back on it, I forgot to filter and it came out as “bugged to LOVE” had me confused how I could have misspelled that much, strange. (I wasn’t talking about the game for reference just the bugs, bugs are ‘cr..’)
As a PS5 user, I stopped buying this stuff halfway through the TSW 5 cycle. The announcement of TSW6 6 and the previews of PC builds were so disappointing that I didn’t even bother downloading the free starter pack. I’m done with TSW because it will never meet my expectations for games on a PlayStation. I’m curious about Metro Rivals, which they announced as a racing game. It’s a bold move from The Stutter Kings to release a racing game, as racing games require peak performance. Creating a competitive racing game that runs like TSW would be an utter joke. So no it's not just Xbox, it's all platforms. Your bar is just very low
I’m still waiting for the 801 Riveria line fixes which conveniently entirely missed out of Alex’s upcoming patches notes seemingly can’t or won’t fix 802 broken engines yet happy to skip that and keep pumping DLCs out
I’ve found acceptable and unacceptable quality to so far be unfortunately on a random route by route, train by train basis, I highly recommend finding videos online of the routes and locos and making sure it’s played on your platform on the video to ensure you see more properly what kind of purchase you are making, it does mean unfortunately finding ‘too’ many what are essentially right offs though I find, but that is the product of the current state of the game. I wanna play the best the game can be, not fighting it all the time and thinking what a bad waste of money, that’s the best way I find to do it, my purchases ensure what I find bad quality don’t sell by my means.
