Makes one wonder how contracts between DTG and 3rd parties are drawn up regarding quality assurance and support.
Seems like some 3rd parties took their money and ran. And even disbanded themselves, so there is nobody to fix bugs.

Who legally owns a DLC? In part, when DTG supplied the assets and trains and 3rd party only built the route? Or in full like when opening up a new country and every asset had to be built from scratch?

When the 3rd party took every source 3D model away, there is little DTG can do to improve it?

And we, paying customers, are left with another piece of crippled abandonware.

Even old DTG routes are abandonware, look at Rapid Transit, with the terrible sound of the BR1442 and derailment. But they espect you to buy or have this route anyway, to use it as layer on Dresden - Leipzig. I saw on youtube, the PIS on the BR1442 is not working either on Dresden - Leipzig.

The BR1442 should be included in the Dresden - Leipzig route itself with correct sounds en working PIS. Other option is to update Rapid Transit with correct sounds, working PIS for Dresden - Leipzig and bug fixes. As this is not the case, I just don't buy this recycled route.

Enough is definitely enough. I've gone from excitement and day 1 purchases to set my expectations low to just don't buy it. I was all set to buy Birmingham to Crewe. After the feedback I treated myself to a new Zippo instead!

I actually get more enjoyment from playing early tsw routes than the crud that's being churned out these days.

Just trains is just about the only hope that's left for this franchise.

Don't get me wrong I like the German content and as you say it's always done well. I have some of the older routes but tbh I got sick of seeing the same stock recycled over and over again.

They do seem to continuously shoot themselves in the foot with a gun that never runs out of bullets, yet enough dozy types with bottomless wallets continue hurling money at them. Obviously it’s up to each individual what they spend their money on of course, but I find it little short of incredulous just how many cannot control themselves by always being so trusting and buying on day 1 of a release.
It’s actually quite funny to see those same people gnashing their teeth at DTG when it’s their own blind faith that is largely causing the problem! If the money continues to pour in regardless why should they up their game?
It sure shows the power of advertising and how just putting some genial and cheery company folk in front of a camera to enthuse about the route can persuade the masses, even though often the evidence in front of their eyes urges caution.
I for one will never buy a day 1 release again, I’ll just grab my popcorn, fire up the forums and get some free entertainment!

Why do you find people being annoyed with a product and then getting angry on the forums entertaining? Surely if you have an interest in train simulators you wouldn't be entertained but rather depressed? It almost sounds like you enjoy seeing people ripping into a product and developers.

I don't have the route yet and will wait till the timetable is fixed but in all the noise there are many who seem to be enjoying the route and think it's very good quality.

    [EDIT - Jan - Inappropriate]

Voting with your wallet is the best way to make your discontent with the state of the game known to DTG

TSW is pretty much the very definition of feature creep, and the issue is that DTG are nowhere near skilled enough as devs to make it all work. All these new features that never get back ported and don't work properly, suspension, announcements, failures, etc.

Because it is nostalgic. Many of us have gone from being disappointed and angry at the constant pathetic ineptitude of DTG. We have been there for years and now feel it is far healthier to laugh at their failures rather than cry.

The problem is that DTG have a near 100% record of botching up new releases and taking forever to fix their own mistakes if they are not just brushed under the carpet and forgotten.

If I was to actually become "depressed" at DTG's foul ups I would need to be on a constant high dosage of Prozac.

Nobody enjoys seeing a product being ripped into but sometimes it is gratifying to see it happen when it is fully justified and deserved.

These "problematic releases" are not rare occasions. They happen with every version release and with practically every new route.

The level of utter ineptitude is inexcusable and should never be tolerated. People have every right to make their feelings of disgust clear as they actually pay the wages of those who make this clearly sub standard faulty product.

The tragedy is we want to pay for this product but expect it to reach a certain quality level to justify the fairly high price. It does NOT achieve that so we rightly complain.

The main entertainment is provided by people who try and defend the indefensible and seem unable to understand that people will not pay for a constantly failing product.

The laughter comes from the often daft and desperate excuses that some will throw out to defend DTG's repeated failings. To those folk I say keep it up, it is all good for the LOLs.

Yes, it's the gift the keeps on giving. Still, it does fill the time while I wait for routes to be fixed and discounted before I buy them.

I have learnt that with TSW you must be very disciplined, set your expectations low, and wait for stuff to be discounted at least 80% That way you don't feel disappointed or ripped off.

I didn't buy TSW 6 on day 1. Kept my promise to myself. I thought I'll wait until the routes are heavily discounted down the line. A couple of days later I indeed found the deluxe edition heavily discounted to the extent that it's cheaper than I'm likely to find each individual piece of DLC for a very long time, or probably ever (Niddertalbahn has never dropped below £20, I don't think), so I still ended up buying it.

And I'm enjoying it, as I usually do overall, but of course I'm not surprised by the mess that followed, like the patch that made train faults happen every 1-10 seconds.

If we give them at least some money, instead of only using the free version, there is hope they will invest the money in experienced human resource from the wider developer community.

    Right?

Calling things ‘woke’ just means a desire to not include everyone. The forum is designed to be all inclusive. Statements to the contrary are not welcome.

You're putting them on your ignore list because they don't want politics on a train Sim forum?

    A bit childish.

Tbh they probably wouldn't give two frogs about it, I certainly wouldn't.

Back on track, I am now pondering one side benefit of the "new game" every year rather than a core update, that of having a version of the game that doesn't have the new bugs introduced in the unready launch version of the new build.

Because honestly, things like still having a version of the game that the SPG SD40-2 fully works in, kind of handy.

While that guy's something, I have to ask why do we have a whole page of Silly Billie's egging the guy on and ruining the thread further exactly? Seems foolish in its own way if you ask me.

    Enough on that though, anyways...
You know as meh as the Flight Simulator X era was in a lot of ways, one of the truly great things about it is the fact that it was one of the last stable sim platforms. Not in the sense it won't crash or anything like that mind you, lord knows FSX loved doing that! But in the sense that once SP2 and Acceleration are installed, bam, nothing to worry about, the underlying game never changes.

Sure, that leaves a lot of annoying issues to be sure, it also means the bugs you have are what you have. No worries about some new update completely undoing all your fixes, or introducing a million new bugs to the table. Also beneficial in the sense you could pretty well buy any add-on for FSX after around 2008 and know they'll work as it did when it released. Which certainly isn't true for 2020, lot of add-ons for that have broken over time, even payware ones. And even if they do get fixed you may be waiting weeks or months until those release.

There's so many benefits to having that concrete, unmoving platform that get ignored now, and it's kind of sad.

That was what I was so hopeful for with MSFS2020... And then they announced 2024 being even more always online.

I still have FSX SE installed over MSFS 2020, mainly so I can occasionally take the Level D 767 out for a spin. Of course, the whole thing is a bit twitchy now despite the changes DTG did to get it running better on modern hardware and OS. For starters, the file footprint is much kinder than 2020, even with a few scenery add ons thrown in. Haven’t bothered with the 2024 version, mainly because my PC is below the minimum spec and I don’t really want to faff about with down, oaring from the cloud every time I want a quick flight.

I like that the OP recently changed the title of this thread to include “3 Year Anniversary”

    After only 2 years.

I’m guessing it’s for how long it feels like rather than actual time passed. Given enough (enough is enough?) time the title will be accurate. It’ll be like a stopped clock eventually showing the correct time. Like much of this thread, it made me laugh.

I haven’t fired up TSW5 since about February, i’ve had a busy summer and beyond that, i don’t find the prospect of running a train on it so inspiring and exciting as i once did

So today i log in to the forum, and find nothing has essentially changed. Sure TSW6 is now out, and sure DTG never seem to get anything working as expected/promised/is reasonable. And this thread continues to grow. I think I’m going to hang fire, not upgrade and save my money. This seems to be just a cash cow of getting a new release and a few routes out the door each year. Does it actually improve with age? Some might disagree but I think not

    Carry on as you were

I like how TSW is being called a cash cow when there's literally a free upgrade option that is as of now still available.

No, sorry I didn’t explain myself better. I mean nothing has changed with TSW itself, the same issues it seems just drag on, as they do with each annual software version. jack#9468 it is still a cash cow even if the update to V6 is (for now) free. They roll out new stuff, never fix the old, and then by the time everyone figures out that the new stuff needs fixing, they for the most part ignore that and start work on next years release. I fully expect that work is focussed on TSW7 already!

Because it is, it doesn’t matter if it has free upgrade or not it’s still a cashcow for not fixing any problems, releasing routes in a terrible state, ui being bugged (mastery) and finally non dealing with the core issues

If Steam client tells the truth, I haven't launched it since 12 October 2024 (as the free starter pack back then). I still haven't installed TSW6 (also starter) to check what's changed, at the moment only waiting for GWE update or Tadami release to do so.

No cash cow would have a free upgrade option.

As the term cash cow implies, everything would cost money. Yet you can upgrade for free, albeit for a limited time.

The fact bugs and core issues carry is irrelevant - and in fact if TSW was a literal cash grab you'd be charged for every tiny fix.

And the fact you have to buy 10 dlcs for all layers in Riviera isn't that another form of cashgrab?
