This little wheel and crank above the running gear on the right hand side of the Scotsman..

What the heck are they? They rachet forward as the loco moves, they aren't labeled, and I can't find anything on Google (though that's probably just me not knowing what to search for).

That's an automatic lubricator. It dispenses a small amount of lubricant between some of the sliding surfaces of the valve gear with every turn of the wheel. The handle is used to manually dispense the oil when required ( generally before the first run of the day )

Thanks for answering! I wasn't expecting to get that question answered anywhere near this quickly (though knowing railfans, I probably should have been)

    No worries ! Pleasure's all mine :)

In fact I got to do a little refresher of my own today !
Those slanted tubes to the right ( as seen in the picture ) are connected to the reservoir and those disappearing behind the wheel arch on the left are the delivery tubes dripping oil on the required surfaces. The small watch-glass adjacent to the handle is used to check the level of oil.
